Math Thinking According to new Common Core Standards
we are focusing on deep understanding of math concepts
No longer just 2x2=4 but WHY does 2x2=4? What strategies can I use to show my work?
Students will need to explain thinking in writing.
Falcon Planner Check every night! The Falcon Planner is a critical
communication tool between parents and teachers
Homework and test information will be written down daily.
Check also for any quick notes from me!
Homework Students should be reading EVERY night Students should be bringing home their
math notebooks to help them with their homework
The homework that is given is REVIEW of what we already taught
STUDENTS should be doing their homework Please assist your child by making sure that
the homework AND planner have been placed in their backpacks for return to school the next day!
Checking Your Child’s Progress
Math tests will be sent home and need to be signed and returned. This lets me know that you are aware of how your child did on the assessment!
Student’s class work AND homework will be sent home in take home folders, make sure to look through their work see how they are doing!
Promoting Independence
In fourth grade students have certain expectations: students need to come to school on time, they need to have all supplies and materials ready, and they need to have a positive attitude!
Students should be doing their own work and responsible for their own things (parents should be CHECKING not doing)
October Conferences
I will be scheduling a conference with EVERY parent in October.
A letter will be sent home with your child shortly. Look for it to fill out what time slot you would like!
On the letter you will need to pick a 1st choice, 2nd choice, and 3rd choice.
