Awards Banquet Held

The 3 big annual individual award win-ners for 2016:

Saul Rovinsky Award for Service: Amy Montano (presentation by 2015 winner John Clendenin)

Good Sportsmanship Award: Dick Bruni (presentation by 2015 winner Vicki Wilson)

Helen Yarwood Award for most teach-ing hours in 2016: Pam Sehmer

Each of these 3 individual award win-ners was presented an acrylic com-memorative plaque.

The recipient of the Saul Rovinsky Award for Service as well as the Good Sportsmanship Award are respectively selected by a committee of the 3 previ-ous years award winners with input and nominations from club members.

To conclude the annual awards ban-quet, trainer’s/teacher gifts were hand-ed out by Peggy Chandler and 2016 Agility Training Director Barbara Pe-

tersen. The gift this year was a tote bag for carrying all sorts of dog things, etc. with a specific breed artfully dis-played on the outside. The trainer’s gifts/teacher gifts were also presented to the registrars and the building and ground maintenance committee.

President Betty Pearson thanked every-one coming to the banquet and looks forward to a great 2017 for SDOC and its members and dogs.

Congratulations once again on being in the

Top 5 Best of the City !

Long time SDOC member and telephone committee volunteer Par Lawson passed away in November of 2016. Pat was a wonderful lady and loyal SDOC member. She will be greatly missed.

2017 is upon us and as I lay here watching my human agonize over 2016 Resolutions that were not achieved and what to put on the 2017 list; I decided I should make a list of my own. So here goes.

I Pup B. Scruffy Resolve in 2017 to:

1. Find an appropriate way to greet new people (these strange humans don't seem to like being jumped on or having their rumps sniffed)

2. Avoid biting when a growl will do

3. Bark at the doorbell but stop when I am told everything is OK

4. Only tear up my toys

5. Stop barking at the dog on the other side of the wall

6. Accept all of life's treats with gratitude

7. Practice my weaves

With some help from my humans I can do it.

Dear Human,

Here are some suggestions for your list.

1. Walk Pup everyday (except when it is raining - he doesn't like wearing a raincoat)

2. Feed Pup a balance diet

3. Give Pup a new toy every week

Agility participants at SDOC’s classes and drills now have some lightweight aluminum contact equipment. These contacts are much easier to move when it comes time to change a course, making it easier on course builders.

The past few months at the field a new strategy for course building was adopted for evalu-ation. We have built courses used in recent agility seminars. These courses are not num-bered, allowing the Instructors to develop student courses to teach a specific agility skill, run short or long sequences or practice a specific obstacle.

The agility field has undergone a lot of changes over the past year. By removing some un-needed landscape we gained additional working area. Mortar sand was brought in to sof-ten the surface. The amount of sand proved to be more than needed and removal has start-ed. Club member Bob Gardner has removed material and parts of the field are easier to run. Len Stans and Mike Provine had suggestions and we are proceeding to implement more removal from the field. This “dirt work” is an ongoing process.

The Prez Sez By Betty Pearson

A Happy and Healthy New Year to you all.. I hope that you and your canine companions had a successful year in 2016 and go on to another in 2017. Personally I have no idea where 2016 went.. It was there and gone way too quickly I want to thank those leaving offices for all that they have done for the club, Pam Sehmer ,Barb Peterson and Toi Tschohl and thank those coming on board Julie Brozek, Gene Tatum and Pat Hester, and Deb Tabor. Not to be forgotten, many thanks to those continuing in various positions. There are classes scheduled to start in January so we will again be busy. I hope that all of you will help your fellow students especially if they are new to the venue and that if you are asked by one of the training directors or a board member to do something that will do so. It takes a small army to get all the things done that SDOC does in the year.. If there are new members in your classes or drills, please make them welcome. SDOC has a good reputation and we’d like to maintain it and part of that is being friendly and help-ing them out. There is lots of competition out there and they have chosen to come to us. Keep in mind this is your club. If you have thoughts or ideas about things that you’d like to see done or questions about why things are done as they are, please let a board member know and we can consider the thoughts or explain they whys. Travel safely and good luck to those of you who are traveling to compete in the various events that are upcoming in any and all venues all over the area. Bring your brags to the meeting and the news letter when you get home., and above all enjoy your dogs..
