Scentroid Approach      to Environmental Odour Assessment 

Why not just chemical analysis:

Knowing individual chemical levels doesn’t allow us to determine how strong the odour is. Only sensory analysis can determine the actual perception of the total chemical composition of the odour. 

Scentroid has introduced a unique approach that combines chemical analysis with sensory testing to gain comprehensive odour impact assessment. 

Why Sensory analysis:Chemical analysis focuses on the determining the concentration of a limited number of predefined compounds in the air.Sensory analysis focuses on determining the overall effect of all chemical compounds that make up the odour. 

What does sensory analysis provide:Sensory analysis will provide a measure of odour concentration (Odour Units) that can be used to determine the how strong the odour will be perceived.

Olfactometers Scentroid has 3 main types of olfactometers.

We are the only company that manufacture in fieldolfactometers to assess odour concentration in thefield at the receptors location or can be use inlaboratory mode. (SM100, SM100i)

We also have portable laboratory unit completelyautomated with a dedicated administrator stationand panelist station for those that has the need totest samples immediately after sampling or inremote locations. (SC300)

Our state of the art laboratory olfactometer isdesigned as a base unit with 6 or 8 panelist stationsand administrator dedicated station. (SS600)

Sampling Equipment

We manufacture a wide variety ofauxiliary sampling equipment to collectair/odour samples from any source suchas point sources, passive sources, activesources, and fugitive sources.

Our sampling equipment are designedto meet the standards set by USA‐EPA,European Union (CEN), Australia (AS),Germany (VDI) and others.

Total Odour Management System

Scentroid provides a comprehensive odour impactassessments and complaint management solution.

Our total odour management system (TOMS) offersa complete integrated suite for odour complaintmanagement. The system provides a perfectintegration of real time odour impact estimationwith management of odour complaints fromneighboring residents. The simple to use software isused to combine results from field‐olfactometry,monitoring stations, and live weather data toproduce real‐time odour plumes showing actualimpact on the neighboring residence.

Emission Assessment

We create comprehensive odour measurement protocols in order to identify odour sources and their emission rates. 

This step is very important to understand and define the odour problem at the facility.

A wide range of services is offered by Scentroid that includes:• Odour emission assessment according 

EN13725:2003 standard• Stack testing according local regulations • In field assessment for diffuse sources like 

refineries, landfills and waste • Continuous odour monitoring (H2S, Amonia,

Impact Assessment

We assess odour impacts within the community using air dispersion models or community surveys.  

The results of this study is to understand the impact that the facility has in the community and to identify the impact from external sources.
