PRESTIGIOUS ACCOLADE FOR ISIS FLOWERS & EVENTS

ISIS Flowers & Events in Hayes, Kent has been accepted for the Good Florist Guide (GFG), a web based directory of the finest florists in the UK. This prestigious accolade is only awarded to florists who really make the grade and allows customers to have an extra level of confidence that they are buying from the best. Each florist shop invited to be in the guide has to pass a rigorous evaluation process before being approved. This meant ISIS Flowers had to submit a detailed description of their floristry business, including range available and services offered as well as images of the shop, their design work, their team and even the delivery vehicle! But GFG shops aren’t just some of the best looking shops, they also offer the very best value when it comes to buying bespoke floristry and flowers because not only are

they true craftsmen but have the very best product knowledge to make sure the flowers and plants you buy from them will last for ages. Commenting on their success Toni of ISIS Flowers said; ‘We are delighted to be accepted into the Good Florist Guide. We are passionate about flowers, design, quality and the service we give to each of our customers so it is wonderful to have this recognised.’ Caroline Marshall-Foster, the UK’s leading expert on independent bespoke florists, is responsible for setting up the Good Florist Guide. For more information contact ISIS Flowers & Events, 24 Hayes Street, Hayes, Kent BR2 7LDTel: 02084677074Email:[email protected]:www.isisflowers.co.uk

The tour began at the Queen’s Gardens where 6,000 flag-waving school children lined the streets and sang choruses of the National Anthem. WITH LONDON 2012 JUST AROUND THE CORNER, SCENE MAGAZINE CAUGHT UP WITH WORLD CHAMPION ATHLETE AND UNOFFICIAL ‘POSTER GIRL’ FOR TEAM GB, JESSICA ENNIS.

Words byNicholas Chowdrey

GoldGOING FOR

Page 17: SCENE (Kent) June 12

SCENE 17

The last couple of years have seen London’s mostly old and weary East End transformed into a sporting utopia. The huge new Westfield shopping centre at Stratford, the Emirates Gondola lift over the Thames at Greenwich and the majestic Olympic Stadium – all presided over by the Orbit tower. The speed at which this transformation has taken place is truly an Olympian feat of engineering.

But let’s not forget what all this building and renovation is for. From its early beginnings in Ancient Greece, to its modern reinvention in the late 19th century, The Olympic Games is a monolithic institution that has celebrated the sporting prowess of the world’s greatest athletes for thousands of years. This year, the whole world will be watching, as Great Britain hosts its first Games in over a century. Standing shoulder to shoulder with these champions of history, the devoted men and women of Team GB have dedicated an astonishing amount of time and effort into training and practise, all to ensure that London 2012 will be a resounding success for country and athletes alike.

Jessica Ennis is one of those people. At only 26 years old, she has an MBE and is the current European and former World heptathlon champion, as well as the former world indoor pentathlon champion. With seven podium finishes to her name so far, three of which were gold, she is one of Britain’s true sporting success stories. Currently on top form, she is one of Team GB’s greatest hopes for achieving gold in this year’s games, and has been championed as one of the faces of the campaign.

Born in Sheffield to a Jamaican father and an English mother, her athletics career began when she was just 10 years old, after winning the coveted prize of a pair of trainers at a local sports summer camp. Not only did this

Page 18: SCENE (Kent) June 12

18 SCENE

cement her passion for athletics, but this was also where she met her future coach, Toni Minichiello. It would be the following year, at the ripe old age of 11 years, that Toni and Jessica would embark on their 14 year partnership that would bring them eventually to their present day success.

Enrolled in the City of Sheffield Athletic Club, Jessica’s first true inroad to becoming the world champion that she is today was at the National Schools Championship in 2000, where she won the highjump, and was presented with the Sheffield Federation for School Sports Whitham Award for the best performance by a Sheffield athlete. This was just the beginning. From 2000 to 2005 she went on to bag a further six 1st place finishes at junior competitions across the world, culminating in 2006, when she entered her first landmark senior competition – the heptathlon at the Commonwealth Games.

Securing a bronze medal as well as a new personal best, this was an exceptional achievement for Jessica, who was just 20 years old at the time. Needless to say, her sights were set for a potentially historic success at the Beijing Olympics in 2008. Alas, her campaign was cut regrettably short, as she was diagnosed with three stress fractures in her right foot just months before the opening ceremony. A potentially career threatening injury, Ennis had no choice but to pull out of the games, spending the next twelve months in recovery.

Despite these unfortunate events, the phoenix rose from the ashes, as Jessica returned to the world athletics stage at the 2009 IAAF World Combined Events Challenge. Not only did she place first but, in the process, she shattered

her personal best, as well as the previous record of 16 years, with an outstanding 6,587 points. Just a taste of what was to come, she went on to win a further three gold medals at the European and World championships, and in 2011 was awarded an MBE by Prince Charles for her services to athletics.

All eyes are on Ennis for London 2012. Her recent success, coupled with a plethora of high profile sponsorship deals, has propelled her into the media spotlight. Suddenly, her face and body have started popping up on billboards all across the country, displaying her undoubtedly enigmatic smile and impressive muscular form. Indeed, she has become what can only be described as Team GB’s unofficial ‘head girl’, a million miles away from her humble beginnings up in Sheffield.

This July is going to be a busy time for all of us living in and around London. Transport will be slow, the crowds will be huge and let’s just hope that the opening ceremony won’t be too embarrassing. Despite all this, we’d all do well to take inspiration from Jessica and the rest of Team GB. The Games are Britain’s chance to show the world just how strong a nation we are, whilst hopefully breathing some life back into the economy in the process. Billions across the world will be watching and, although many of us might struggle to comprehend the stress and pressure that Jessica and her teammates will be going through, the best that we can do is to give them our full and unequivocal support.

SCENE Magazine wishes the whole of Team GB the best of luck for London 2012. Do us proud!

Some people might wonder why so much fuss is made about the Olympics coming to London. People complain that it’s just a waste of money, or just an elaborate school sports day, or nothing more than a chance to show off. The reality is that, for most people, it’s literally going to be a once in a lifetime opportunity; indeed, the last time that the Games were held in the UK was way back in 1908. Today, so many more countries stand between us and the next chance, that it’s likely to be way more than a hundred years before the Olympics returns. However optimistic you might be about your lifespan, the sensible option would be to make the most of it this time round, don’t you think?

If you think you’ll struggle to find any enjoyment out of the Games, here’s our top tip. With so many different events to choose from, our suggestion is that you pick a few disciplines that interest you the most, and follow them throughout the competition. There’s bound to be at least a few smashed records

and each of the amazing athletes also have their own remarkable backstories, so keeping up to speed with what’s going on is bound to make the whole experience even more interesting. Think about it as one massively important, international reality TV show. Remember, everything kicks off on the 27th of July with the opening ceremony, and will run through until the 12th of August.

Of course, London 2012 is not the only huge sporting event happening this summer. Now in its 135th year, The Championship at Wimbledon is the longest running and most prestigious Tennis finals in the world. Running from the 25th of June until the 8th of July, all eyes will be on the UK’s new champion of Tennis, Scotsman Andy Murray, to see whether he can better his placement from last year, when he was knocked out in the semi-finals by Rafael Nadal. This year, special guests will include the legendary Andre Aggasi and with so many tennis stars on the peak of their game, it’s sure to be an historic

SUMMER OF SPORTSLATE NIGHT KICK ABOUTS DOWN THE LOCAL PARK, A GENTLEMANLY GAME OF CRICKET ON THE VILLAGE GREEN, TWILIGHT RUNS BEFORE BED AND LEISURELY ROUNDS OF GOLF AT THE WEEKEND. SUMMER MAKES SPORTS, AND THIS YEAR IS GOING TO BE THE BIGGEST SPORTING SUMMER THAT ANY OF US WILL EVER SEE.

event. For those who prefer their sports to be faster and with more petrol, The British Grand Prix will be taking place this year on the 8th of July. Held at the world renowned track at Silverstone, nothing quite beats the smoke and speed of this thrilling spectacle of Formula One. Hoping to impress before their loyal British fans, both Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button will be on hand in the hope of a thoroughly British podium finish. Here’s wishing them the best of luck!

Finally, the pressure is on for new England Manager, Roy Hodgson, as he leads the England team for the first time in Poland and Ukraine for the Euro 2012 championships. What with some controversy surrounding his team selection last month, will Hodgson succeed where so many more have failed in rallying the notoriously lacklustre squad into an at least half decent finishing position? With the likes of Gerrard, Young and Oxaide-Chamerlain on the sheet, the midfield certainly looks strong, with a great mixture of young talent and experience.

However, what with Rio Ferdinand left out due to his tempestuous relationship with fellow centre back John Terry, will the lack of solid choices in defence spell another embarrassing campaign for our lads in white?

Well, there you have it, a plethora of choices to fulfil your every sporting desire. But make sure you don’t spend the whole summer plonked in front of the telly. What with the amount of rain we had last month, it’s bound to be a lovely dry, hot summer… hopefully. So have a rummage round the garage for a ball or bat, slap on that sun cream and head on out to enjoy a fantastic summer of sports.

AMANDA GREEN - MAKEUPAMANDA GREEN, MAKE UP ARTIST AND DESIGNER TO SOME OF THE MOST FAMOUS FACES ON TV HAS CREATED INTENSIVE PROFESSIONAL MAKEUP ARTIST COURSES FOR ANYONE INTERESTED IN LEARNING THE ART OF MAKEUP.

For full courses and content log on to: www.themakeupartist.infoOffice: 0208 325 0121 Email: [email protected]

Amanda has worked in the media industry for over 25 years and some of her clients include artists such as Graham Norton, John Malkovich, Alicia Silverstone,

Alesha Dixon, Ricky Gervais, Beverley Knight, John Barrowman, Jay Sean, Tom Jones, Isabella Rossellini etc., the list goes on...

Amanda has decided it’s time to give something back to the community and to pass on the knowledge that she and her team has gained over the past decade. “Make up artistry has been a fabulous career for me; everyday is different- providing diverse and interesting challenges”.

If you are interested in becoming a make up artist, you are creative or have a natural flair for either make up or hair and would like to train to become a session/media makeup artist then these courses are for you.

We provide something for everyone whether you want complete makeup artist training, you are a makeup artist looking to update your skills or you simply want to learn the skills to do your own makeup and hair we cater for all.

Our tutors and speakers are experienced working makeup artists/designers and media professionals working in HDTV, Film, Theatre, Fashion, Advertising & Music videos and therefore the perfect people to help advise you on starting out in your new career .

At ‘The Make Up Artist’ you will learn the skills and techniques to equip you ready to work.. After

students have completed their course, we keep in touch with any opportunities that might arise for work experience and where possible help graduates find and secure work, this would be in the areas you have been trained in. You could find yourself helping out backstage in a theatre, shadowing on a TV show, working with extras on a commercial, a photographic shoot, a film set, a fashion show, or assisting a designer on a music video, even assisting a wedding photographer by making sure the bride and her entourage are picture perfect.

At the Make-up Artist we aim to be an inclusive organisation where everyone is treated with respect and dignity and where there is equal opportunity

for all. We will welcome everyone from any area of our diverse society. However, we feel that learning the art of make-up could be especially beneficial to disadvantaged young people and those with special needs.

We intend to target some classes at these groups of young people. We hope that by learning the skill of applying make-up some young people may be able to embark on a new career path. In other cases the opportunity to express themselves artistically, through make-up, will lead to an increase in self-esteem and motivation. It could also lead to an increase in social skills by allowing these young people to participate in school or college productions as make-up artists or by raising funds through face painting. In this way we believe we can use make-up as a therapy and help to contribute to the local community.

We will help you as much as we can to ensure you get the best possible start in your new career.

Collaborations between high-end designers and high-street brands are nothing new. In fact, we barely

even bat an eyelid anymore, at the throngs of fans camping outside stores at 5am to get the first look-in. Versace for H & M was perhaps the most hyped-up collection yet, but, we have to ask ourselves, do they live up to the media attention they receive? Luckily for you, we have done all the legwork to find the

best pieces from the cream of the collaboration crop this year. Form an orderly queue, ladies.

Colour blocking has been the daddy of all trends for several seasons now, and SS12 is no different to the others. This colour block dress, the lovechild of partnership between Debenhams and London label Preen is a sure-fire hit. One of the more low-key collaborations, yet with perhaps more longevity and

less need for PR hullabaloo, Preen’s EDITION range for the high-street giant focuses on Preen’s strength: well-cut pieces that make women feel fantastic. Coupled with the reliability and value-for-money prices Debenhams offer, the entire collection would make a sound investment.

When it comes to paying a premium price for what is, essentially, a high-street manufactured piece,

versatility is key. This Vanessa Bruno for La Redoute shirtdress has it all- a flattering fit and the perfect mix of laid-back cool and sexy, due to the slouchy shape and sheer chiffon fabric. Wedges, lipstick and a leather jacket would transform it from a daytime dress to a vamped-up party outfit in one fell swoop.

People Tree, the fair trade fashion pioneer, has teamed up with both Zakee Shariff and Orla Kiely this season. Both offerings are characterised by each designers’ signature prints. Zakee Shariff’s designs feature delicate, illustrative prints with a smattering of paisley whilst Orlia Kiely’s features bolder designs. Celebrity collaborations are often even more anticipated than the high-end designers (who could forget Kate Moss for Topshop?) Geri Halliwell by Next is surprisingly well thought-out: structured pieces in solid colours and girlie floral print produce a mix of grown-up chic and fun. From March also is a selection inspired by that Union Jack minidress, albeit not so tight and with a longer hemline.

The limited edition nature of these collaborations means that unfortunately it can be very difficult to get hold of even the less popular items, let alone the key pieces. For this reason, it is advisable to check with stores to find out when they receive delivery of the items. It may sound extreme, but will avoid disappointment. The plus side is knowing you have paid a fraction of the usual price for your favourite designer!

Another Fathers Day, another dad dilemma. Most of us used the best gift ideas at Christmas,

and the rest, well, probably didn’t have any to begin with. The truth is that our old man is a tricky chap to buy for. Unless he falls into the A) gadget geek, or B) senior fashionisto category, most presents seem dull and uninteresting. Socks?

No. Comedy tie? Definitely not. Gardening equipment? Maybe, but a steel hand trowel doesn’t exactly have the ‘wow’ factor. To make your life easier, we have handpicked some of the best crowd-pleasers this season for Fathers Day.

First up: tough, reliable, and a little worn around the edges (just like the man himself), is this holdall from

Marks & Spencer. Big enough for a weekend away but small enough for a day outing, it is classic and versatile without being boring or traditionally ‘daddish’. Suede and leather detailing make it a classy affair.

If time is money, then this Rotary watch is worth a million bucks. The classic brown strap, gold edging

and face inscribed with Roman numerals all give off a distinguished air. The crosshatch detailing on the inner face, along with the exposed mechanics add a utilitarian feel to this most timeless of timepieces. A grown-up present that will make him feel very James Bond.

Pared-down with a quirky edge, this Austin Reed blazer is the perfect summer jacket. Worn with chinos to Sunday lunch or a shirt, tie and dark trousers to a formal event, it is the ideal gift for the dad who is inclined to make bolder sartorial choices. The gingham fabric has a fifties flavour to it, and will no doubt please with its flattering cut and slim line silhouette. While we’re in the smart department, these brown and white two-tone brogues from Office are beautifully crafted, with punched-leather detailing and a touch of Frank Sinatra about them.

For the aspiring cook, a manly pestle and mortar is a more unusual kitchen-themed gift. Debenhams’ Java Ceramic version has an unglazed interior for maximum grinding capability and a useful pouring spout. Sleek, modern and ergonomic, it will remain an aesthetic asset to the kitchen even when not in use. It also just looks generally impressive.

It is the sports car among luxury crossovers, the most dynamic looking car in the class and inspired in all the right places – chiefly performance. As the best-selling model in Infiniti’s European range, it is also the car that has introduced the luxury automotive brand from Japan to more people in Europe than any other. It is the Infiniti FX, the perfect fusion of sports car and SUV and the car that created a whole new product category. In just four years the FX has become not just the brand icon in Europe but also the standard-bearer for the driving pleasure, peace of mind and hospitality on which Infiniti is founded.

Sporting appeal is ramped up on GT and GT Premium derivatives with a new and distinctive, five double-spoke design of 20-inch wheel; S versions, with the availability of Rear Active Steering (RAS) among a long list of handling-oriented features, stay with their 21-inch wheels. More choice for FX owners is offered with the latest exterior paint colour, Iridium Blue.

It is Infiniti’s newest Scratch Shield finish and available exclusively on the FX. Graphite Shadow is additionally available now on all FX models.

The pinnacle of the FX range, the FX Vettel Version, is due to reach its first owners early in 2013. The most powerful, expensive and exclusive Infiniti ever sold in Europe, the FX Vettel Version is a collaboration between Red Bull Racing’s World Champion driver and Infiniti global brand ambassador, Sebastian Vettel, and Infiniti’s Chief Creative Officer, Shiro Nakamura. Just 200 of the 420PS V8 models will be available worldwide, with reservations now being taken.

EXTERIOR DESIGN

Acknowledged by many to be in a design class of its own within the large crossover sector, the FX’s sports car-inspired looks and proportions continue to stand out in a market populated by much boxier shapes. Buyers consistently cite design as their number one reason

TO INFINITI AND BEYONDAFTER FOUR YEARS AS INFINITI’S ICON AND TOP-SELLER IN EUROPE, THE INFINITI FX FOR 2012 IS REINVIGORATED WITH A PACKAGE OF ENHANCEMENTS THAT PUTS ITS ACCLAIMED BLEND OF ATHLETIC DESIGN, INSPIRED PERFORMANCE AND MODERN LUXURY INTO SHARPER FOCUS THAN EVER BEFORE.

for choosing the FX, with almost a third more declaring it their first priority compared with the Porsche Cayenne. For 2012, and the first refresh of the car’s appearance since the FX made its debut in Geneva in 2008, the model gets more of what makes it so sportily distinctive.

INTERIOR DESIGN

Little needed to be done to refresh an interior whose ambience, quality and comfort perfectly sum up the Infiniti ethos with its reliance on organic shapes and natural materials. So little was done. The key changes inside the 2012 FX are a switch from red to white for the needles on the dials and clearer new white illumination for the trip computer panel – a perfect illustration of Infiniti’s obsession with perfection in every detail.

The FX’s interior is just as successful as the exterior design at marrying the appeal of a sports car with the passenger comforts, and space, of a luxury sedan.

Page 36: SCENE (Kent) June 12

36 SCENE

The FX offers high-set seats and superb all-round visibility – aided on Premium versions by Around View Monitor. Even the biggest fans of the “command” driving position will approve. Everything for the driver has been designed with utmost clarity, precision and intuitive feel in a notably driver-centric way.

DRIVETRAINS: 5.0-litre V8 – POWER WITH EFFICIENCY

Infiniti’s flagship engine ensures the FX50 is one of the fastest and most rewarding crossovers on the road, with a breathtaking turn of speed and the muscular exhaust note to back it up. Featuring twin symmetrical air intakes, microfinished crankshaft,

lightweight pistons, super-silent cam drive chains and VVEL valve timing – Infiniti’s guarantee of high power but also maximum efficiency – the V8 is an engineering masterclass.

The 2012 range of Infiniti FX crossovers has been designed to perform at the highest levels of both passive and active safety. EuroNCAP agrees: the independent safety authority has awarded the FX five stars for crash safety as well as scoring it a remarkable 99% in “safety assist” – a reflection of both the FX’s highly advanced safety technologies and the fact that the majority of Infinitis sold feature them as standard equipment.

AT A GLANCE• Even more expressive design for the most sporting looking of all large crosso-vers • Stunning new wheel design and exclusive new body colours• Three high performance engines: V6 diesel, V6 petrol and V8 petrol• Four exceptionally well equipped grades• Five-star safety and award-winning technology • F1 World Champion Vettel to feature in pan-European TV campaign

Seabass with Langoustines in Vanilla Sauce & Spring Garnish by La Rascasse

For the sauce:6 langoustine, 50g shallots sliced, olive oil for frying, 1tbsp tomato puree, 50ml of Pernod, 25ml Vermouth, 3-4 stems of tarragon, 2 star anise, half litre fish stock, 250ml double cream, 1 vanilla pod split & seeds removed.

For the Seabass1 large beetroot, 1 celeriac, 50g mange tout, 50g sun-dried tomatoes, 1 x 180g Sea Bass (scaled & boned), 1tbsp plain flour for coating, olive oil for frying, 1tsp butter, 50g fresh wild mushrooms.

Bring a large pan of slightly salted water to the boil and blanch the langoustine tails. Simmer for 3-5 minutes before draining. Remove and separate the shells from the meat.

For the SaucePre-heat the oven for 170C/Gas 3 and dry the langoustine shells in the oven for about 10 minutes.Heat a dash of olive oil in a saucepan, and add the shallots. Cook for a few minutes, without colouring, and add the shells to the pan. Continue frying for a further 3-4 minutes, before stirring in the tomato puree, and adding all the alcohol. Tip the pan to the heat source so that the alcohol catches and flames. Cook down until it has reduced by half. Add the tarragon, star anise, add fish stock. Continue cooking until reduced by half again. Stir in the cream and add the vanilla seeds. Bring to the boil, and simmer the sauce for 20 minutes, until syrupy in consistency. Remove the pan from the heat and pass through a fine sieve. Set aside.

Cut the celeriac and beetroot and 1.5cm cubes. Cook separately in lightly salted water, until just tender. Drain and set aside. Slice the mange tout and sun-dried tomatoes into strips and blanch in slightly salted boiling water until just tender. Drain and leave on one side.

Season the sea bass and dust the skin with a little flour. Heat a frying pan over a moderate heat and add a dash of olive oil. Add the fish, and cook for about 3 minutes, skin-side down. Flip the fillet over and cook for a further 3 minutes. Toss the Langoustine tails in a teaspoon of melted butter. Remove to a plate. Heat the blanched mange tout, mushrooms and sun-dried tomatoes in the same pan.

Wine & Dine SCENE Style

Arrange the beetroot and celeriac pieces around a serving plate. Spoon the mange tout mixture in a the centre and top with the sea bass and langoustines.Reheat the vanilla sauce and foam with an electric stick blender. Ladle over the fish plate and serve.

Wines of the month

Domaine Vigneau-Chevreau NV - £14.99

This sparkling wine is 100% Chenin Blanc & Biodynamic in its production,

so a very natural wine. A delicious dried apple and apricot fruit with creamy

yeasty notes on the palate.

2011 Boekenhoutskloof The Wolftrap, South Africa £8.99

Made by Marc Kent, of The Chocolate Bloc fame with similar precision, this is a spicy, full bodied Rhone blend of 65% Syrah, 32% Mourvedre, 3% Viognier and packs quite a punch at £14.5%.

2011 A Mano Fiano Greco - £8.99Explosive floral and exotic fruit flavours of white peach, apricot & rose make this a very interesting & flavoursome wine with complexity and a creamy long texture. Great on its own or creamy chicken or fish dishes.

Wilunga 100 – Viognier 2011 - £10.99This wine has hints of citrus flower, lime and apricot on the nose. On the palate it is fresh

and clean, with attractive acidity balanced by apricot and lychee fruit characters, with a long

finish of citrus zest and honeysuckle. Match with poultry and fish dishes.

As we are moving into the summer season and there is plenty of celebrations going on around the UK. We at Champion Wines have put together our list of wines for the month of June.

AN EVENING ATPlaza

LAST MONTH, SCENE MAGAZINE HAD THE PLEASURE OF ATTENDING THE FIRST EVER GOURMET ITALIAN EVENING AT PLAZA, A FANTASTIC MEDITERRANEAN RESTAURANT IN LOCKSBOTTOM. IT WAS A SPECTACULAR EVENING, SHOWCASING THE VERY BEST OF ITALIAN FOOD AND WINE, LEAVING US ALL ANTICIPATING THE NEXT EVENT.

Plaza Mediterranean Bar & Grill,366 Crofton Road, Locksbottom, BR6 8NN

Telephone/ Reservations: 01689 859 000Email: [email protected]

Since acquiring the restaurant two years previously, head chef and owner, Nick Constantine, has totally transformed the restaurant into an elegantly modern Italian eatery. With over 35 years’ experience, Nick began his career in his homeland of Cyprus, going on to eventually own five restaurants.

From the fashionably understated exterior, to the sparklingly clean décor, we all agreed that Plaza was the epitome of Mediterranean class and sophistication. What struck us when we walked through the door was the sheer attention to detail evident in the interior design. As we walked through the door, the mocha chocolate theme of the furnishings - beautifully offset by colourful abstract paintings and vibrant flower arrangements - had us gazing round in awe.

We were warmly greeted by the front of house, who showed us to our table and offered us drinks and the menu. A full five course feast, the menu was designed to showcase the best of Mediterranean ingredients, imported directly from Italy. Highlights included a variety of bespoke cured meats, including a delicious two year matured D.O.P. salami, as well as specially imported Italian swordfish.

Each dish was also accompanied by selected Italian wines, chosen specifically to complement the food. The balance of flavours was very well orchestrated, with a light and fresh Prosecco going very nicely with the black truffle risotto, and a more robust red Barbera served with fillet steak. The selection certainly showcased Head Chef Nick’s mastery of Mediterranean flavour.

The evening was a complete success and the restaurant was buzzing with energy. Everybody who we spoke to enjoyed the food immensely, with many mentioning that the meal was one of the most well executed and authentic examples of Italian cuisine that they had ever experienced in the UK. Plaza will be holding these special gourmet nights every 6 weeks, also featuring a number of Greek themed events. The evenings are already proving to be very popular, so we would highly recommend that you get in contact with the restaurant and book way in advance.

We wish Nick and the staff at Plaza the best of luck in the future.

BANG & OLUFSEN - AN ALL TIME IT MIGHT BE ONE OF THE LONGEST

ESTABLISHED NAMES IN THE BUSINESS, BUT IT CAN NEVER BE SAID THAT BANG & OLUFSEN DOESN’T MOVE WITH THE TIMES.

Bang & Olufsen of Bexleyheath155 Broadway, Bexleyheath, DA6 7EZ Tel: 0208 303 2760 [email protected]/bexleyheath

The famed Danish brand continues to be at the forefront of audio-visual excellence nearly 87 years after students Peter Bang and

Svend Olufsen started the company from a small attic room in 1925.

Much of the success of Bang & Olufsen can be attributed to its unwavering passion for innovation and pioneering design, each of its products building on the ground-breaking technology found in its predecessors. Bang & Olufsen has grown to be one of the most prestigious audio-visual brands in the world and enthusiasts of the brand deserve an equally special retail experience. Few businesses are as well-equipped to provide this as Abba Hi-tech Ltd, a company that is owned and run by the Blake family and which has dedicated Bang & Olufsen showrooms in Bexleyheath, Bromley and Tunbridge Wells.

Abba Hi-Tech Ltd has over 50 years’ experience in retailing Bang & Olufsen products and providing customers with an outstanding level of care whatever their Bang & Olufsen requirements. One of the longest established Bang & Olufsen outlets, Bang & Olufsen of Bexleyheath first opened its doors in 1989. Following the showroom’s popularity with the people of Kent, Dealer Principal Paul Blake then established Bang & Olufsen of Tunbridge Wells and Bang & Olufsen of Bromley in 2001.

Since opening, and in the midst of a very challenging economic climate, Abba Hi-tech’s Bang & Olufsen showrooms have progressed in line with the premium brand they represent to offer customers unrivalled levels of service and advice in an environment that is both stimulating and relaxing The showrooms are continually updated and the latest additions include an interactive ‘Solutions Wall’ that shows how Bang & Olufsen products can revolutionise the convenience of your home, the latest in 3D televisions, and cutting-edge digital audio systems that take connectivity to a whole new level.

Most recently, Bang & Olufsen of Bexleyheath, Bromley and Tunbridge Wells have welcomed one of the most exciting developments in the history of Bang & Olufsen – the unveiling of the B&O PLAY brand. B&O PLAY launched with Beolit 12, an attractively-priced retro-styled portable music system that is designed to work with the iPad®, iPhone® and iPad®, and has been strengthened with the recent arrival of BeoPlay V1 – the most affordable Bang & Olufsen television ever. Available from under £2,000, the feature-packed BeoPlay V1 is available in 32” and 40” screen sizes and is perfectly timed for those who want to upgrade their viewing experience in readiness for this summer’s top sporting events. BeoPlay V1 supports USB devices, is compatible with third-party set top boxes and external hard drives, and can be used as a DMP (Digital Music Player) when connected to 100s of other DLNA (Digital Living Network) compatible products.

Paul Blake, Dealer Principal, invites anyone interested in Bang & Olufsen to call into the group’s showrooms;

“Bang & Olufsen has never been as exciting and, with the introduction of B&O PLAY and notably BeoPlay V1, as accessible, so I urge anyone who wants to enhance their audio-visual enjoyment to call in for a chat.”
