Students Bring Home 39 Art Awards
Each year, The Governor’s Academy enters students’ works of art into the Boston Globe All Scholastic Art Awards Competition. This year, Governor’s arts students won an astonishing 39 awards in the competition, the largest number of art awards that our students have ever earned. The total number of awards that the Academy won this year was more than any other Independent School in Massachusetts. This is the third time in the last five years that Gov’s has earned that distinction.
Twenty-nine Gov’s students won awards in 4 different art disciplines: ceramics, studio art, photography, and film. Our artists won 15 Gold Keys, 10 Silver Keys, and 14 Honorable Mentions. Especially impressive were the 8 Gold Keys won by our students for their Portfolio work, which is considered the most advanced level of art in the competition. (More art and award list on reverse side).

The Winter Drama Company presents Legally Blonde on Friday, Febru-ary 15 and Saturday, February 16. Many potential audience members might be thinking, “There’s a lot of pink in that show,” or “everyone just acts dumb the whole time.” Although there is definitely a good deal of pink in the show, the characters do have dimension and there’s a legitimate moral to the musical. We invite you to challenge your pre-conceptions about the show. If you’ve never seen it, it’s definitely worth checking out. Both evening’s performances begin at 7:30 PM.
Original Works byWinter Dance Co.
One short week after the musical, the Winter Dance Company takes the stage to present A Concert of Original Works. With a blend of company pieces, small groups, solos, student-choreographed works, and faculty-choreographed works, these performances will definitely showcase the many talents of our dancers. Friday and Saturday, February 22 and 23 the curtain goes up at 7:30 p.m. Sunday’s show begins at 2:00 p.m.
