In 2019 all the Local Authority members of the Suffolk Climate
Change Partnership (SCCP) declared a 'climate emergency'.
The Councils have each set up cross party Task Groups to consider
independent reviews being carried out and recommend future
priorities for action on climate change based on frameworks such as
the Paris Agreement, and advice from bodies such as the Committee
on Climate Change, who advise the UK Government on emissions
targets.
The SCCP members have a shared interest in supporting Suffolk’s
communities, businesses and residents to reduce carbon emissions,
realise the economic benefits of reducing energy consumption and
adapt to the future impacts of climate change. The SCCP members
will continue working with the Environment Agency and other
organisations locally including Groundwork Suffolk, New Anglia
Local Enterprise Partnership and the University of Suffolk.
Our vision is that “Suffolk wants to be an exemplar in tackling climate
change and protecting and enhancing its natural...environment...to be the
county with the greatest reduction in carbon emissions”.

An SCCP community advisor visited the organisation's buildings and
identified savings estimated at £4,262 and 15.0tCO e per year. Their
subsequent report was used by the organisation as evidence to secure grants
totalling £22,000 towards energy improvements.

SCCP members are working together with partners across the county and
region towards the aspiration of making the county of Suffolk carbon neutral by
2030.
They are working to develop a Suffolk Climate Emergency Plan to set out the
actions they will take towards this aim. Current projects reach across the private
housing, business and community sectors, with a strong focus on carbon
