Annexure A1: WDC Report for 2018-19

Report of Women Development Cell for the academic year 2018-19

The objective of Women Development Cell if to sensitize all students and staff of the college on gender discriminations and sexual harassment at the work place and encourage involvement through academic, cultural and outreach activities such as talks, workshops, community action, drama, poster-making, discussion deliberation on women’s rights and gender-related issues.

Meeting of Women Development Cell Committee was held on 5th July 2018 to discuss the activities to be carried out for the academic year 2018-19.

On 6th July Mrs. Gracy Dsouza (Chairperson) and Mrs. Pranita Kamath the addressed the girl students of SY and TY of all programmes regarding sanitation and hygiene to be maintained in the college washrooms.

Orientation of first year students was held on 11th July 2018 to make them aware of the objectives of Women Development Cell, Sexual Harassment at Workplace, the complaintmechanism, punishment involved and the activities of the Cell. A presentation was made on highlights of Sexual Harassment at Workplace (Prevention and Redressal) Act, 2013.

A lecture on “Grooming Yourself” was organised in association with Procter and Gamble. MS. Tini Singh, Professional Grooming Consultant was the speaker. She spoke to students on personality appearance, body language, postures, learning to read & influence people through non- verbal communication. This session would help college students to improve their grooming level as they are the ones who will be facing corporate world immediately after completion of their courses.

Learning to relax is vital for good health and wellbeing. It reduces tension and helps us be calm even in a stressful situation. A 3 days workshop on ‘Meditation and Relaxation’ was conducted on 6th to 8th September, 2018. Ms Rakhee Vora from NGO Heartfulness conducted the workshop. 105 student participated in this workshop.

Mrs. Gracy Dsouza and Mrs. Pranita Kamath delivered a lecture on ‘Gender Sensitisation’ to the NSS Volunteers of the college. It was an interactive session with discussion on meaning of Gender, Changing role of gender etc. This programme was conducted in association with NSS Unit of our college on 28th September, 2018.

A lecture on “Inner Confidence” for the girl students by a trained motivational speaker from Procter & Gamble Hygiene and Healthcare Limited was organised on 15th October, 2018. The program covered topic of feeling good (emotional wellbeing) and educate girls about menstruation and female hygiene. After the lecture following services were provided -

v Free hair analysis for all students.v Free sampling of Whisper sanitary napkins to all girl students.v Special discount to all students on products like Gillette Mach3 Turbo razor, Head &

Shoulders –Shampoo, Pantene – Shampoo, and free sampling of new pantene oil replacement sachets to all final year students

A lecture on “Managing Healthy Relationships” was organised on 29th January, 2019. The speaker Ms Smitaa Nair, 360o Success Coach & Breakthrough Expert spoke on relationship building techniques and how to communicate with clarity, What’s a Success mind-set-Programme your mind for success, Dealing with setbacks – How to make a setback your comeback, Daily rituals to enhance your self-worth and self-belief

Essay writing competition was organised on 8th February, 2019. The topics were –

ÿ Causes and effects of the #MeToo movementÿ Does it make sense to have different toys for boys and girls?ÿ Women and Glass Ceiling effect.ÿ Portrayal of Women in Mediaÿ Working mothers and children's development

Students were allowed to write in any of the four languages- English, Hindi, Marathi & Gujarati. The prize winners were –

∑ Mr. Dipak Vishwakarma (TYBAF) – English∑ Mr. Rakesh Pandey (TYBCOM) – Hindi∑ Ms. Muskan Chikode (TYBCOM) – Marathi∑ Ms. Shweta Parmar (SYBMS) – Gujarati

Two cases of eve teasing were received from girl students. The boys concerned were given warning.

An Acting workshop called “Chaukitchya Aatbaher” was organised on 14th March in the college campus. Mr. Maneesh Salve from Chinar Nirmiti was the trainer for the workshop wherein he taught the students some basics in acting and encouraged them to pursue their acting skills.

“Ahar” a cooking based program was organised on 7th March in association with Staff Academy of our college. Ms. Priyam Ahuja, Ph.D in Nutrition from Nestle demonstrated some recipes using Nestle products like Milkmaid, Maggie Masala, Noodles. The participants were served with a bowl of Nesplus Multigrain at the beginning of the program. Ms. Priyam explained the benefits of good diet and the amount of calories in each dish prepared by her. Recipes like Kalakand, Coconut Rice, Sprouted Moong and Corn Sabji, Paneer and Bell Pepper Noodles were prepared and the participants were given to taste the dishes.

Ms. Kanwalpreet Kaur Puri, Member WDC attended State level intensive training workshop on UGC (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal of Sexual Harassment of Women Employees and Students in Higher Educational Institutions) Regulations 2015 organised by R. A .Podar College of Economics in collaboration with Maharashtra State Commission for Women (MSCW) on Saturday, 2nd March 2019.

Mrs. Gracy Dsouza participated in the National Seminar on ‘Gendered Academic Cultures & Sexual Harassment in the Academia: #Metoo & Beyond” on 6th March 2019 organised by Women Development Cell, University of Mumbai & Gender Issues Cell, K. C. College.

Participated in one day workshop on “Gender Safety Audit: Training the Trainers” held on 6th

October, 2018 organised by University of Mumbai Women’s Development Cell in Association with Akshara Centre, Mumbai.
