He graduated from Tartu University history department (1993), and has carried out research in Birmingham University (1996) and Indian Institute of Mass Communication (2000). He has worked in a number of different positions in Estonian newspapers Postimees, Sõnumileht and Kesknädal. He has been working in municipal public relations service in Tallinn for the last ten years. He is also closely involved in the development and promotion of Tallinn e-services and the free public transport project. Dr. Giorgio Ambrosino Chairman and Founder, GA consultancy Giorgio Ambrosino (GA) has over 30 years’ experience in supporting European regional and local Authorities and Transport Executives in planning, design, implementation and operation of ICT projects. This includes working on Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) for Urban Public Transport, Sustainable Urban Mobility, City Logistics and Organization. During the last twenty five years, GA has participated as technical coordinator of several European projects funded by R&D programmes and Interregional Initiatives. He has written more than 100 technical papers at European and international level and has co- edited 10 books, for example “Infomobility and Sustainable Management of Transport Systems” in December 2011. He lecturer on ITS-ICT issues in several post graduate and university courses. Mr. Allan Alaküla

Head of Tallinn EU Office, City of Tallinn Allan Alaküla is head of Tallinn European Union Office in Brussels and Chair of Tallinn Television supervisory board. Ms. Heather Allen

Programme Director Sustainable Transport, TRL Heather Allen has recently joined their Transportation Division as Programme Director of Sustainable Transport. Heather is a recognized international expert in urban transport and sustainable development. She has nearly 15 years’ experience in this field. Previously, she worked at UITP, the Brussels based international Association of Public Transport where she set up UITP's Charter on Sustainable Development programme which became gold standard for voluntary commitments. More recently Heather set up an internet based reporting tool for this sector. She has worked with many international organisations such as the United Nations Environment Programme, UNHABITAT and the UNFCCC climate change programme. Heather is a member of the Transportation Research Board Committee on Transportation in Developing Countries. At TRL, she leads the team on climate change. The team’s work

includes the initiative entitled Bridging the Gap and developing projects on sustainable urban transport particularly in the developing world. Mr. Heiko Balsmeyer

Project Coordinator LIFE+ Clean Air, Verkehrsclub Deutschland e.V. (VCD) Heiko Balsmeyer is Project Coordinator of the European LIFE+ Project ’Clean Air’ at the VCD. Based in Berlin the project coordinates the work of 9 European NGOs cooperating to make important contributions for clean air in Europe. The main focus is best practice in the transportation sector in cities. VCD’s contributions to the project are designing the public relations campaigns, to make buses cleaner in Eastern Europe and to show the importance of a modal shift to cycling to clean the air in European Cities. Heiko studied political sciences with a strong focus on sustainable development, political economy and energy policy. His passions were political strategies for the transformation of the solar economy. He delivered his contributions to the solar society as a journalist and as a political officer in the national parliament. In 2008 he turned his focus to the field of transport policy. At the VCD he has promoted better air quality since 2009, at first with the ‘Sootfree for the Climate’ campaign. Since September 2012 he has been the project coordinator for the ‘Clean Air’ project. His main issues are particle filters, scrt-systems, low emission zones, clean buses and strategies to support cycling. www.cleanair-europe.org

Mr. Ger Baron

Project Manager ICT, Amsterdam Innovation Motor Ger Baron (1978) started his professional career in 2004 with Accenture Consulting. After this he worked for one year with the Dutch Social Democratic Party on the national campaign team. Nowadays, Ger works for the Amsterdam Economic Board (formerly the Amsterdam Innovation Motor), a non-profit organization that manages public private partnerships in the field of innovation. In this role Ger founded the Amsterdam Smart City programme working on the implementation of smart solutions for energy, health, mobility and education based on modern infrastructures such as smart energy grids and Fiber to the Home. Data is key, but the uniqueness of the programme is that it always puts people at the centre. Amsterdam Smart City is a bottom-up programme and a collaboration of over 100 partners who all share the same ambitions: Improving life in the Metropolitan Area of Amsterdam.

Mr. Vladislav Bízek Senior Consultant, Environment Center, Charles University Vladislav Bízek is a MS and PhD graduate of Prague Institute of Chemical Technology (1978, 1982). Between 2000 and 2002, he attended executive management training at Nyenrode University (The Netherlands) and University of Rochester (USA). After ten years of research in Chemical Engineering at the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences, he was invited to become head of the Research and Development Unit at the Ministry of Environment of the Czech Republic. Afterwards he became director of the Environmental Project Department. In 1993, he was appointed Deputy Minister of Environment and stayed in this position until 1998. Between 1999 and 2007, he was Managing Director of the Czech office of the Dutch

based engineering and consulting company DHV. Since 2008, he has worked as a freelance international environmental consultant. He also holds a part time post at the Environment Center of the Charles University in Prague. He has participated in more than one hundred environmental projects both in the Czech Republic and abroad (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Moldova, the Netherlands, Russian Federation, Serbia, Switzerland, Turkmenistan and Ukraine). His professional interests include air quality assessment and management, environmental policy and economy, environmental and sustainability indicators and the assessment of environmental impacts of energy and transport. Since 2006 he has worked with the Working Group for Environmental Monitoring and Assessment under the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe. From 2008 to 2012 he was a member of Advisory Group on Environment under DG Research and Innovation. Ms. Rut Bízková

Member and Chairwoman, Technology Agency of the Czech Republic (Former Minister of the Environment of the Czech Republic) Rut Bízková is Chairwoman of the Board of the Technology Agency in the Czech Republic (TA CR). The TA CR was established in 2009. It is the main public body supporting research, development and innovation aimed at increasing Czech Republic competitiveness. Accomplishing this objective requires TA CR to define conditions for inter sector cooperation The TA CR´s motto is “…from ideas to application“. She has vast experience in the field of environmental science in particular the impact of energy on the environment. Her experience as a researcher and policy maker means she has a clear understanding of the R&D market. In 1981, she worked at the Nuclear Research Institute in Řež, in 1994 she worked as a spokesperson for ČEZ, the association of coal-fired power stations. In 1999, she moved to the public sector where she was head of the Department of International Aspects of Industrial Policy at the Ministry of Industry and Trade and then became an advisor to the Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade for power, metallurgy and construction. Later, she worked at CENIA, the Czech Environmental Information Agency. In September 2006, she became Deputy Minister of the Environment and Director of the Section of Environmental Economics and Policy. In April 2010, she was appointed Minister for the Environment. After the new government of Prime Minister Petr Nečas was appointed in 2011 she worked as First Deputy Minister. While working at the Ministry of Environment she was responsible for the ministerial research and development programme and became a member of the Research Council of TA CR since October 2010.

Mr. Tomáš Chalupa

Minister, Ministry of Environment of Czech Republic Tomáš Chalupa was appointed Minister of the Environment in 2011. He has been a member of the Executive Council of the ODS since 2011. He was Deputy Mayor of the Prague 6 City Ward for four years from 1998 and he went on to become the Mayor of the Prague 6 City Ward in 2002. From 2006 to 2010, he became a member of the Executive Council of

the ODS and was re-elected as Vice-Chairman of the Regional Association of ODS Prague. Tomáš studied at three Faculties of Charles University in Prague: the Faculty of Social Sciences, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, the Faculty of Arts, Department of Political Sciences and History and the Faculty of Law. From 1997 he was the Spokesperson and Head of the Press Department of the Government of the Czech Republic (1997 – 1998) and also as an employee of the central office of the Civic Democratic Party (1998). Ms. Tihana Damjanovic Project Associate, ODRAZ-Sustainable Community Development Since February 2010, Tihana Damjanovic has been employed as Project Associate, where participates in the implementation of the CIVITAS ELAN project. She is involved in a range of educational programmes, including a TOT-programme which is part of the European Economic and Social Committee in Brussels. The TOT-programme discusses the cooperation between social partners and participatory democracy. Tihana spent many years working in civil service organisations where she gained experience in preparing, implementing and evaluating projects. She also has expertise in organising and preparing conferences, round tables, educational events and lectures. She volunteers in Croatian with international civil society organisations such as AED and Amnesty International.

Mr. Jean-Luc de Wilde d'Estmael

Head of Strategic Planning and European Projects, STIB (Urban Public Transport) Jean-Luc (46) studied the law and economics before joining the Brussels Capital Region Transport Ministry (1991-1994). For ten years (1995-2004), he led and developed the NGO Pro Velo, active in developing bicycle use in Belgium, and one of the largest cyclists’ organisations in the world. Jean-Luc is now (2005-2013) working for the STIB as a senior manager in the Strategy and Innovation department. He initiated and is leading two major INTERREG IVB funded projects:

Ms. Catarina Freitas

Head of Department, Sustainable Environmental Management and Planning Department, City Council of Almada Catarina Freitas has been Head Officer for Energy and Environmental issues at the Municipality of Almada since 1997. At the present she is the Head of Sustainable Environmental Management and Planning Department of Almada City Council, as well as the Executive Member of the Board of AGENEAL, the Local Energy Management Agency of Almada. She is responsible for the management of several European projects and partnerships and has always worked in multi-cultural, international environment. Among other important activities, Catarina Freitas coordinates the Local Strategy for Climate Change, the Local Strategy for Sustainable Mobility and the Local Agenda 21 of Almada, driving the development and implementation of an eco-efficient, green economy in Almada. In that framework, she is the author and co-author of several presentations and papers on municipal energy and environmental management, energy efficiency, climate change and urban sustainable mobility.

Mr. Paolo Gandolfi Deputy Mayor for Mobility (Member of the Italian Parliament), Municipality of Reggio Emilia Paolo has been Deputy Mayor for Mobility of the Municipality of Reggio Emilia since 2007. Since March 2013, he is Member of Parliament elected in the Chamber of Deputies. Paolo has worked as a professional architect from 1997 to 2006 and he was a Professor of Urban Planning at the University of Ferrara. Previously, he was Head of the Planning, Environment and Infrastructure Area for the Province of Reggio Emilia. He is married with two children and lives in Reggio Emilia.

Mr. Simon Goddard Project Manager, Architect, Gehl Architects Simon Goddard is a Project Manager with Gehl Architects, Copenhagen. He was born and trained as an architect in Melbourne, Australia and his experience spans residential, public and commercial commissions across varying scales. Simon’s key area of competence is in the conception and design of social infrastructure – strategic public interventions within cities to improve their quality, amenity, sense of community and beauty. He co-led the production of the Christchurch Central City Plan following the February 2011 Earthquake, helping to identify and illustrate key projects. More recently he has assisted the City of Sydney to develop designs for George Street and Sydney Square and has developed a mobility strategy for Red Deer in Canada – one of the most challenging mobility contexts we have worked in to date. He is currently developing a cycling strategy for West London. He led the Gehl Campus Taskforce and has taught at The Melbourne School of Design, at DIS and lectures internationally.

Prof. Antonio Gomes Martins Coordinator of the Energy for Sustainability Initiative, University of Coimbra António Gomes Martins has a PhD in Electrical Engineering, University of Coimbra (1985). He is a tenured professor since 2002 at the University of Coimbra, Department of Electrical Engineering and Computers. His areas of expertise are energy efficiency, demand-side management, energy planning for sustainability, smart networks and devices for intelligent use of energy resources. He was Director of the Institute for Interdisciplinary Research (2008-2011) and Vice-Rector (2003-2011) at the University of Coimbra, as well as President of INESC Coimbra (1999-2002), an R&D unit where he is presently a researcher. He is co-founder and coordinator of the Energy for Sustainability Initiative, a multidisciplinary collaboration platform of researchers from fourteen R&D units (2007-present).

Mr. Martin Hajek

Center Director, Center for the Development of Transportation Systems, RODOS Since 2012, Martin has been director of IT4Innovations the Centre for the Development of Transportation Systems in VŠB, Technical University of Ostrava. The centre is financed by the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic. The Competence Centre programme supports long-term collaboration between the public and private sectors on research, development and innovation. He specialises in transport management and road tolling systems, with particular focus on public tenders’ preparation. From 2009 – 2011, he was head of ITS (Telematics) Department. He has experience as project manager for research and implementation projects of road telematics at national and European level. He graduated in 2003 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Institute of Transport at the Technical University of Ostrava and later from the Transport Research Centre.

Mr. Mark Hidson

Deputy Regional Director, ICLEI- Local Governments for Sustainability Mark is British and a sustainability manager by education. For 13 years he has worked with, local governments in policy and strategy development on sustainability issues such as climate change, transport and procurement. Mark has a BSc (Hons) degree in Environmental Science and a Masters in Environmental Management Mark manages ICLEI's involvement in international sustainable procurement issues, designs projects, undertakes financial management and fundraising, supervises 7 staff and oversees all international and European projects related to sustainable procurement. Mark overseas the Procura + Sustainable Procurement Campaign - an initiative designed to support public authorities across Europe in implementing sustainable procurement. Mark also oversees the EcoProcura series of conferences. EcoProcura provides a platform to promote knowledge exchange and dialogue amongst, suppliers and policy-makers on strategies and practical solutions for implementing sustainable procurement.

Mark is a member of the International Expert Group on Sustainable Production and Consumption set up for the 10-Year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production by UNDESA and UNEP. He is also a member of the Marrakech Task Force for Sustainable Public Procurement, which has been set up as part of the Marrakech process. Mr. Jiří Huzlík Head of the Research Department of Transport and Environment, Transport Research Centre (CDV), Ministry of Transport of the Czech Republic Jiří is head of the Research Department of Transport and Environment at the Transport Research Centre. His main area of research is the impact of emissions from transport on the environment. His professional activity has focussed on the chemical analysis of environmental samples by gas chromatography including analysis of the results to assess the environmental impact of using statistical methods. He has taken part in many foreign and domestic projects for example Research and Development (R&D), Operational Programme Research and Development for Innovations (OPRDI), COST (351, 633), and 5th Framework Programme (BUGS). Jiří graduated from the Faculty of Science Masaryk University in Brno, department of chemistry, in 1976. He has worked as head of a chemical laboratory, chemist and senior technologist, researcher and as head of a reference laboratory for wastewater analysis. He has many years’ experience in analytical chemistry and environmental and transport issues. He holds a License Graduate Studies - Statistical Analysis of Experimental Data (University of Pardubice, 2010).

Mr. Jaroslav Klusák Energy manager of the town, Department of Projects and Strategies, City of Litoměřice Jaroslav graduated at University of Economics Prague, Department of Environmental Economics in 2006, his Ph.D. topic was economic growth and environmental quality. He has worked for the Ministry of the Environment in CENIA (Czech Information Agency for the environment). In 2004, he worked in RES and energy efficiency on national and municipal level in NGO PORSENNA o.p.s. Since 2011 he has worked as an energy manager in the City of Litomerice. He is responsible for efficient use of energy in municipal properties and for the City of Litomerice’s long term vision of being energy self-sufficient. He has worked on a number of international projects and has authored many articles dealing on sustainable energy at the municipal level.

Mr Jiří Kohout Transport project manager, Plzen City Jiří is project manager for public transport development, technological innovation and intelligent transport systems in Pilsen at PMDP. He has implemented complex projects for operating public transport facilities – dispatching control, statistics, intelligent stops, preference on traffic lights, suburban transport coordination and dynamic traffic planner on web sites. As a result, he has experience using European funding to develop projects inlcuding traffic surveys, marketing surveys of public transport and public transport marketing (publicity matters, ad campaign, jubilee, new website pmdp.cz).

Jiří is graduated in 2002 at the University of West Bohemia in Plzeň, Faculty of Electrical Engineering. He worked as technical assistant and achieved a postgraduate certificate in mathematical modeling at the same university. He has participated in numerous research projects in the field of public transport and urban ecology. He held to position of Chair for five years of the Civil Society for Public Transportm (www.spvd.cz). Mr. Martin Kuba Minister, Ministry of Industry and Trade of Czech Republic Martin graduated in 2002 from the 1st Medical Faculty of Charles University in Prague (specialising in anaesthesiology). Since 2002 he has worked as a doctor in Emergency Medical Service for the South Bohemian Region Ambulance Service and as an anaesthesiologist at the Department of Cardiac Surgery ICU at the České Budějovice hospital. In 2004 he setup the Fornetti pastry shop franchise in České Budějovice and in 2007 he established the Fruit Frog chain of outlets, selling fruit cocktails. He has been a member of ODS since 2003. In 2006 he was elected a member of the České Budějovice city council and alderman. In 2008 he was elected Chairman of the South Bohemia and he became First Deputy Governor for the South Bohemian Region. He is responsible for regional development, transport and European affairs.

Ms Célia Laranjeira Coordinator of Local Sustainable Development Programs and Environmental Management, Câmara Municipal de Águeda Célia holds a degree in Biology, a Master's in Environment and Forest Resources and Post-graduate studies in Sustainable Development from the University of Coimbra. At present she is a PhD student in Environmental Sciences and Engineering at the University of Aveiro. She has worked as a researcher at the Laboratory of Hydraulic, Hydra resources and Environment - Department of Civil Engineering from Coimbra’s University. She has also worked as a professor at the University of Aveiro, lecturing on Environment, Natural Management and Pollution. Célia has been scientific advisor and has been responsible for the technical supervision of content in the area of environment, biology and geology for the Universal Encyclopedia. Since 2006, she has worked at the Municipal Authority of Agueda on the development of studies coordinating sustainable development, environmental management and sustainable tourism projects, including the Natura 2000 network and biodiversity conservation work. More recently she coordinates the Sustainable Mobility Strategy for Agueda, the Local Agenda 21 and the Covenant of Mayors.

Dr. Martin Litzenberger Senior Engineer, AIT Austrian Institute of Technology GmbH Martin Litzenberger received a diploma in physics and a Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from Vienna University of Technology in 1999 and 2003, respectively. After finishing his Ph.D. he joined the business unit New Sensor Technologies at the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology in Vienna, Austria. He is project coordinator for FP7 project CARBOTRAF targeting at the reduction of CO2 and black carbon emissions from urban road traffic. In the framework of this project Martin Litzenberger is involved in the development of a traffic

monitoring device that allows to measure special emission relevant traffic parameters. Martin Litzenberger is a member of IEEE and ÖVE. He is author and co-author of more than 50 scientific publications. Ms. Iva Machalová Transport Specialist, Brno City Municipality Iva studied Geography at the Faculty of Science at Masaryk University in Brno (Czech Republic). Her thesis involved a Socioeconomic analysis of the Parliamentary Elections in Czech Republic in 2002. In 2004 Iva worked for Brno City Municipality, first in the Urban Planning and Development Department and later at the Transport Department. Her work has primarily focused on transport planning – including the preparation of transport plans. Since 2008 Iva has been involved in European projects as a local manager working on innovations in the field of sustainable urban transport. Projects she has worked on include CIVITAS ELAN project (2008 – 2012) and the CH4LLENGE project. This project focused on the creation of Sustainable Mobility Plans.

Mr. Timo Mäkelä Director, International affairs, LIFE & Eco-innovation Unit, Directorate-General Environment, European Commission Timo Mäkelä is director—international affairs, LIFE and eco-innovation—at DG Environment, European Commission. His present responsibilities include both bilateral and multi-lateral international relations of the European Commission in environmental policy, innovation policies for environment and the management of the EU internal assistance programmes for environment and eco-innovation. Before taking up this post in 2009, Mäkelä worked as director—sustainable development and integration—at DG Environment. His responsibilities included sustainable development and economic analysis, sustainable production and consumption—including waste management, environmental research, science and innovation policies as well as environmental policies for industry. After completion of a master’s degree in technological sciences from the Helsinki University of Technology, Mäkelä received a post-graduate diploma in sanitary engineering from IHE in the Netherlands. Mäkelä has held a number of management posts at the Ministry of Environment of Finland. He has also served as a head of department at the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Water Affairs in Gaborone, Botswana and as a director for municipal and environmental infrastructure at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in London, UK. Since 1996, Mäkelä has been employed by the European Commission, as a head of unit in DG Environment in Brussels, as the head of European Commission Representation in Finland, and as director for sustainable development and integration at DG Environment before his present post.

Mr. Pierfrancesco Maran

Deputy Mayor for Mobility, Environment, Subways, Public water & Energy, City of Milan Pierfrancesco Maran has a degree in Political Science. He has many years’ experience as a consultant. He was Councillor in Consiglio di Zona 3 for two terms, dealing with issues related to mobility, transports and parking. In 2006, he became City Councillor of Milan. He was part of the Mobility and Environment Commission where his activities focused on improving the efficiency of public transport. During the last administration his proposal for a network of night bus in the city was approved. During the last election he was the second most voted member of the Partito Democratico and he is the youngest member of the Council of the Mayor Giuliano Pisapia.

Mr. Jaromir Marusinec

Chairman, Czech electric cars Industry Association (ASEP) Jaromír is Director of Computer and Information Services Centre in Brno University of Technology, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of academic network CESNET and a member of the EUNIS.CZ. He studied at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, where he achieved a Ph.D. for his research on artificial life in virtual reality. He studied for an MBA at the Faculty of Business and Management. He believes that the future of clean transport and energy independence is electromobility. This is that intersection point of electrical engineering, computer science, transportation, civil engineering, economics and the environment. As a result, he founded the Czech electric cars Industry Association (ASEP.CZ) and acts as Chair for the association. He was involved in developing the electric car Superbel.cz, which is based on Skoda Superb II platform. In 2011, he participated in the electric cars race WAVE Tour 2011 - 3000 km from Paris to Prague. He organizes the Czech Silent Way race and the Czech Electric car of year competition Currently, he is involved in building a solar powered boat SunRiver. He is also working on international standards for electromobility and is creating a European charging infrastructure map for electric vehicles called PluginMap.eu.

Mr. Jan Mertl

Senior specialist, Czech Environmental Information Agency (CENIA) Jan is a senior environmental assessment specialist in CENIA. His main areas of interest are climate change issues, air quality, regional development and transport. In 2010-12, he was work package leader on the SUDPLAN project. The project dealt with the use of information technologies in urban planning and climate change adaptation in cities. The main outcome of this project was the air quality analysis for Prague which will be presented in the forum (Session 3). He has participated in many projects at CENIA, including the Multimedia Yearbook aimed at creating an educational for environmental issues. During 2008, he led a twinning project for CENIA that focused on capacity building in environmental assessment. From 2001-2010, he was involved in activities for the European Environment Agency (e.g. NFP deputy, WG on state of the environment reporting). He also

coordinated the national EIONET network. He graduated from the Faculty of Science, Charles University in Prague, where he specialized in physical geography and cartography. Ms. Louise Napier Senior Planner, Aberdeen City Council As a University of Aberdeen graduate, studying Geography and Management Studies, Louise quickly found a calling in transport and after working as a researcher for the University joined Aberdeen City Council's Planning department. A rather surprising ten years later there has been little change; Louise is still working in Aberdeen trying to improve transport! Although predominantly employed as a policy writer developing and monitoring the Council's Transport Strategy and Local Development Plan transport policies, a gap emerged between sustainable transport policies and activities being delivered. As a result Louise also develops schemes themselves and leads on cycle projects, electric vehicle infrastructure, car sharing clubs, car parking, travel awareness and travel planning for businesses, schools, the Council itself, as well as exploring air quality projects such as Low Emission Zones for the City. Her most recent project is a Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan for Aberdeen City Centre and its six main arterial routes to incorporate all of the different elements that are being considered for the City, and for which Aberdeen has recently won the EC’s ‘Do the Right Mix’ Campaign 2012 Award for excellence in public and stakeholder engagement.

Dr. Vincent-Henri Peuch Head of Atmospheric Composition Division at ECMWF, MACC-II Project Co-ordinator, European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) Vincent-Henri Peuch is Head of Division and a member of the Directorate at ECMWF. He coordinates the MACC-II (Monitoring Atmospheric Composition and Climate - Interim Implementation), European project which delivers pre-operational GMES/Copernicus services for the atmosphere and addresses air quality. His background relates to numerical modelling of chemistry (PhD) and meteorology (Engineering degree). Previously, he has worked with Météo-France, leading a research team working on air composition modelling contributing especially to work on deterministic air quality forecasting in the late 90s. He is co-author of over 65 papers in the international peer-reviewed literature. He is a member of several scientific advisory boards at the international level, serving on the scientific committee of the Global Atmospheric Watch programme of the World Meteorological Organisation as well as the European Environment Agency. He has extensive experience with EU research projects having worked as coordinator or sub-project leader on several projects for FP4 to FP7.

Dr. Jan Rakušan

Chairman of the board, Centre for Research and Innovation (CVVI) Jan Rakušan, MBA, is also chairman of the board for ENERGOKLASTR. He is a graduate of the Faculty of Law at Masaryk University in Brno (Mgr.) and of the Faculty of Law at Charles University (JUDr.). His long-term focus is in intellectual property law, and research and development issues. As a member of the law firm Havel & Holásek, he specializes in intellectual property law, information technology, electronic communication, media and modern technologies, and the competition law, European law, and financial regulations. He previously worked for ŠKODA AUTO a.s., where he dealt with the issues related to information technology, intellectual property law, and competition law. In addition, he provided legal support for the ŠKODA Motorsport team and ŠKODA Slovakia, and participated in the establishment of a factory in India. He has also worked for the T-Mobile Czech Republic Company as a senior legal counsel, participating in interesting projects such as payment via SMS (projects m-commerce), outsourcing of services in the field of information technology, and the regulation of marketing competitions. He also participated in marketing activities and campaigns for the company. On top of that he was engaged with the association of mobile networks providers, conducting negotiations between mobile carriers and collective administrators, national regulation organs. At present, his primary focus remains intellectual property law, applied research and technology transfer, including cooperation between research teams and industry. Apart from his work in research organizations he is also a board member of the National Cluster Organization, a member of the committee of Science and Technology Parks Association, and a member of the advisory body of the European Committee in the field of financial regulations (Payment System Market Expert Group). He regularly lectures at conferences and engages in publishing activity.

Mr. Jean-François Retière

Vice President of Nantes Métropole in charge of Commuting and Transportation, Nantes Métropole Jean-François Retière has been Mayor of Mauves sur Loire, one of the suburbs of Greater Nantes (Nantes Metropole), since 2001. Within Nantes Metropole, he was Vice President for Tourism from 2001 to 2008 and is now in charge of transport and mobility issues. With a background in sociology, he has mainly spent his professional life in the area of lifelong learning, notably on the implementation of the law on validation of work experience. This led him to carry out specific analysis in the field of transport.

Mr. Paolo Pissarello Vice-President, AGSC Paolo Pissarello served for the last five years as First Deputy Mayor in the Municipality of Genoa where he was responsible for the Smart City project and for the Port, Infrastructure, Public Transport and European Affairs. In this position, he worked closely with the local public administration, Genoa University and companies to develop a new system of cooperation in planning the future development of the city. He is a lawyer with particular expertise in labour relations. He taught commercial law at the University of Genoa as assistant professor and he was a member of several boards of directors in utilities companies. He is also President of SI4Life, a consortium created by Regione Liguria to improve research and business activity in the areas of society and health.

Mr. Jerome Simpson Senior Expert (Green Transport), Environmental Policy Directorate, Regional Environmental Center Born and raised in the UK, Jerome Simpson holds a BSc degree in Information Science from Leeds Metropolitan University. He later graduated from the International Space University. He has lived in Budapest, Hungary since 1994. Since 1995 he has managed projects that benefit society and the environment, resulting in cleaner and safer cities. Currently he coordinates CIVITAS VANGUARD, an EC ‘support action’ that runs from 2008 until 2014. He is happily married and a proud father of two and takes a special interest in genealogy, space science, human rights and West Ham United. Aside from writing Wandervögel, his first book outside of his professional line of work, he has written a number of travelogues and has also been involved in establishing a number of websites, including http://www.wandervogel.org. His specialties include technology transfer in information systems, sustainable mobility and Civil Society Organisation functionality. He has led various teams at REC since 2000, currently the focus is Green Transport. He has organised training courses, designed and edited multi-lingual resource materials, conducted technology transfer assessments and published a number of best-practice guides.

Mr. Robert Stussi Mobility Consultant, Urban Mobility Planner, CIVITAS Modern (Coimbra) Robert Stüssi is an urban and mobility consultant. He is an advisor to public and private entities in areas of research and education. Robert has been involved in organising many conferences and run projects for international financing institutions (WB, EC, BAD, ASDI). He was a volunteer to the former president of the European and World Association for Batteries, Hybrid and Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle.

Mr. Antonin Tym

Geothermal project manager, City of Litoměřice

Antonín has been working as a geothermal project manager in Litoměřice since 2009. His manages projects and develops innovative strategies in the Czech Republic. Antonin holds a Master degree in Public Policy, he also studied Environment Policy at Middlesex University in London and at Salford University in Manchester as a PhD candidate. Before joining the team in Litoměřice, Antonín worked as project manager responsible for European projects and international affairs at Healthy Cities of the Czech Republic, a project that helps cities achieve international WHO Healthy City Projects.

Mr. Václav Král CNG Sales manager, MOTOR JIKOV Václav graduated from University of Economics in Prague. Since 2004 he has worked for MOTOR JIKOV. They develop and manufacture small CNG vehicle refuelling devices; they also design, build and service private and public CNG filling stations. In 2012 he was a member of the South Bohemian Region Council, where he was responsible for regional development, planning and transport. Král is also member of the board of Czech Natural Gas Vehicle (NGV) Association. It was founded in 2009 as national technology platform in the field of CNG and biomethane utilization in transport. Members of Czech NGV Association are leading R&D representatives, project specialists and technology suppliers and engineers from the Czech Republic. Král’s main areas of work include preparation of regulations, providing expert educational services and participating in international projects.

Dr. Henriette Van Eijl Policy Officer, Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport, European Commission, Research and Innovative Transport Systems Unit Henriette van Eijl’s main responsibilities are to lead the EC's multidisciplinary project team that is developing the European Innovation Partnership in Smart Cities and Communities. She is based in DG Transport and Mobility. Henriette‘s background is a BSc (King's College) and MSc (Imperial College) from London. After her studies she worked in industry for a number of years and then went on to complete a DPhil (PhD) in molecular biology at Oxford University. Subsequently, she was recruited by the European desk of the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs. The Dutch government seconded her to the European Commission's Research centre in the office of the Directorate-General for Health and Biotechnology Directorate. She has been working there for four years as a fund/project manager. Henriette is a keen rower (Oxford University Blue) and is a co-founder of a professional network of Dutch speaking women in Brussels.

Mr. David Volpe

Senior Product Manager, HERE Transit, NOKIA L&C David is from the United States, he has been living and working in Berlin for 2+ years. He and his team support Transit and Pedestrian navigation in 55 countries, covering more than 550 cities, including data acquisition, and the processing and deployment of Public Transportation information. The team partners with many of the largest companies across the globe to provide users better choices in transit and more knowledge about their mobility options. Nokia’s HERE Transit application is moving towards offering a multi-modal product.

Dr. Jan-Olaf Willums

Chairman and founder, InSpire Invest Previously, Jan held senior management positions in Storebrand, Norway's largest financial sector company, Saga Petroleum and Volvo Petroleum. He chaired two of the earliest venture capital and investment companies in Norway in the 1980's. In 1990, he was appointed to head the Energy and Environment Office of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) in Paris, and Secretary General of the Industry Forum at the Rio Earth Summit, Brazil in 1992, where he was cofounder and became Executive Director of WICE, the World Industry Council for the Environment. WICE later merged to become the World Business Council for Sustainable Development in Geneva, where he was a director until 1998. He is Professor at the Norwegian School of Management and board member of the Center for Corporate Citizenship. He is on the Advisory Board of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and of the World Bank Institute, and member of the Private Sector Advisory Board of the World Bank Corporate Governance Forum. Dr. Willums holds a Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Swiss Institute of Technology and a Doctorate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

RAPPORTEUR Ms. Sonja van Renssen Freelance climate, energy and environment journalist Sonja van Renssen is a freelance climate, energy and environment journalist who writes for publications such as European Energy Review, European Voice, Nature Climate Change, and ENDS Europe. She also hosts interviews and gives media training for the internet-based TV channel viEUws.eu. Prior to freelancing, van Renssen spent for four years as lead climate/carbon correspondent for the EU environmental policy news and analysis service ENDS Europe. She has worked as a radio journalist for the BBC World Service and she won Young Broadcaster of the Year Award in 2005. She has worked as a reporter for the Science and Development Network in London, the Buenos Aires Herald in Argentina and the Llama Express in Bolivia. Before working as a journalist, she spent two-and-a-half years as a strategic marketing consultant for KAE Marketing Intelligence in London. Van Renssen holds an MSc with distinction in science communication from Imperial College London and has an MA in biological sciences from the University of Oxford.
