Conventionally, cooling tower water is treated by the method of addition of chemicals or by water

softening. Both inhibit scale deposition but have number of disadvantages like water bleeding in

cooling tower, high operating cost, not an environment friendly and corrosive nature.

ElSr, an Electrolytic Scale Remover:

In order to overcome the limitations of conventional cooling water treatment, We developed a new

concept in this field, removal of scale (both calcium & magnesium carbonate) by electrolytic operation,

by using ElSr. We, India an ISO 9000-2008and CE markcertified company, incepted on 1992 with

well-equipped in-plant facilities and qualified engineers for designing, manufacturing, testing, supplying &

installing the electrochemical water treatment equipments including ElSr, an electrolytic scale remover.

However, state of art electrolytic scale remover ElSr produces Oxidants in the water. Oxidants prevents

the corrosion, Bio-fouling, Scaling, Micro-organism growth and spread of airborne bacteria. ElSr consists of

reactors. Reactor-SRremoves the scale from the raw water and control the TDS available in the water.

Reactor-EC generates Sodium hypochlorite for the removal of airbornebacteria, bio-fouling and algae.

ElSris an independent equipment, getting installed separately out of the Heat exchangers cooling water

circuit. Water from the cooling tower pond is continuously circulated through the ElSr via circulation pump

Process of scale removal is getting carried out, when the ElSr is connected to power and water flow

through it. Its construction is purely by using corrosion resistant materials of GRP, UPVC & Platinum group

precious metal oxide coated titanium.

Construction & Operation of ElSr

Electrolytic action in Reactor-SR:DC current passes from the cathode, through the electrolyte (water) in

the reaction tank, to the anodes. Due to the electrolysis process, the floating calcium molecules are

deposited on the cathode and the water is returned to the cooling tower free of calcium. The chemical

reaction on reactor-SR cathode is as follows:

Ca(HCO3)2+2OH CaCO3 + 2H2O + CO3 - 2

Mg(HCO3)2+4OH MgCO3 + 2H2O + CO3 - 2

Mg(HCO3)2+2OH MgCO3 + 2H2O + CO3

Electrochemical reaction produces OH ions, which causes scale to sink to the bottom of the tank, produces

corrosion preventing copper and iron ions and creates an environment that prevents the development of

harmful micro-organisms. Scale that accumulates on the bottom of the reaction tank is extracted by drain

valve.

Reactor-EC increases the pH of the water to 8.2~8.7, and uses the chemical reactions caused by electrolysis to

produce oxidants with powerful bactericide effect, preventing corrosion and eliminating bacteria. OH+ ions

that remain near the anodes cause a decrease of pH levels and produce oxidants which disinfect the water.

Electrolytic action in Reactor-EC:

Salt available in the pond water is composed of sodium and chloride. When DC is passed through thereactor to the electrolyte (water), the chlorides will disassociate and form chlorine. The basic process is

as follows:

Electrolysis occur in an undivided cell when a DC current is passed through a saline water solution (e.g.

seawater or brine solution).At the anode; oxidation of chloride ions to produce chlorine (Cl2).

At the cathode; reduction of water to produce sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and hydrogen (H2).Liberated chlorine reacts with the sodium hydroxide to produce sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl)

instantaneously. The overall reaction, sustained by electrical energy, is as

2NaCl(salt) + H2O(water) ---> NaOCl(hypo) + NaCl(salt) + H2(hydrogen).

Sodium hypochlorite, NaOCl is the powerful oxidant that is used world-wide for the chlorination of

the water for Anti-fouling (prevent sliming, mussel / barnacle growth etc.); Disinfection (for drinking

water, general anti-bacterial purposes in process water, etc.); Chemical treatment (bleaching,

removal of iron, manganese.

High performance Sand filter:

Dirt, algae and sediment gather in the tower basin / pond together with the remaining mineral from the

evaporated water, and travel through the cooling water circuit creating deposits an even clogging the

spray nozzles. This cause uneven water distribution over the filling, resulting in uneven air flow and

reduced heat transfer area.

Reduction in heat transfer capacity reduces the working efficiency of the towers and the energy

efficiency of the condensing system. To overcome this inefficiency, on completion of electrochemical

reaction (electrolytic / electrolysis) the water is passing through the high performance sand filter to cleans

water and capture solids.

Mechanical Warranty:Company warranty that; the ElSrsupplied is brand new, manufactured with first

class workmanship and good manufacturing techniques. Mechanical warranty of company lasting

twelve months from the date of shipment or 18 months from the date of its commissioning whichever is

earlier. During the period of mechanical warranty, the customer shall have to notify (with complete

details / description about the problems including the model number, Invoice number, date of

shipment and current operating conditions) to Company; if any defects or deficiencies arises.

Company shall provide technical assistance and replace the parts if necessary for the removal of the

defects and deficiencies. If need be, Customer has to despatch the defective equipment or parts to

Companyssite for necessary repairs and rectification. The customer shall bear the transport cost.

Limited Warranty:

Normal polarity titanium electrolyzer of reactor-SR & reactor-EC shall have 30 months and

Reverse Polarity titanium electrolyzer of reactor-SR & reactor-EC shall have 12 Months

of Pro-rata basis warranty from the date of its first billing. If any failure in the titanium electrolyzer during

the mechanical warranty, We shall arrange to repair or replace the electrolyzer if deem required.

Thereafter, it will be having strictly governed under pro-rata warranty for the remaining warranty period.

The interpretation of pro-rata warranty will be governed underCompanysstandards norms.

Exclusions:Our warranty does not cover any damages or injuries resulting from misuse, negligence,

corrosion due to undue chemical reactions, improper installations, and irregularities in cleaning,

operation not in conformity with factory recommendations / user Manual. The warranty wontcover

the electrolyzer that has been modified, tampered with or altered without authorisation. No other

extended liabilities stated or implied and in no circumstances covers incidental or any consequential

damages / injuries / cost resulting from defective products.

Post Warranty:Once the warranty period is over, the customer / owner is expected to maintain the ElSr

continuously to enhance maximum life and quality. If required, the reconditioning or refurbishment

shall be the responsibilities of the owner and Company may be approached for required guidance

and advice.

Governing Law:The agreement shall be governed by law of India. The court of law at Chennai shall

have exclusive jurisdiction over any disputes arising under the agent / distributor / dealers / buyers

agreement.
