    General Music

    ESL Level 3:

    Topic: Music Theory

    Grade Level Cluster: 9-10

    Content Objectives:

    Evaluate written music notation

    Identify and reproduce solfege patterns

    Comprehend and reproduce pitches and simple melodies

    Language Objectives:

    Identify and recognize different music terms by using written and aural examples

    Associate definitions and concepts by defining vocabulary with written examples

    Instruction Strategies/Supports:

    Examples - demonstration and pictures

  • Procedures:

    1. Prep: Prior to the beginning of the course a basic music theory exam will be

    given. This test will be used to judge the amount of music theory known

    by each student and will give an outline of where to begin. This test will

    include aural and written examples

    2. Presentation: In order for the information to be fully understood, visual

    examples will be used such as slideshows and physical examples

    3. Practice: Students will be given worksheets that willl help enforce the

    material being learned.

    4. Evaluation: After students complete the worksheet, they will get together in

    groups and discuss their answer choices and will give feedback on others

    work.

    5. Expansion: The vocabulary learned will be explained more in depth and will

    be used in the every day language of the classroom.
