SAFETY WITH LPG CYLINDERS (PART - 3)

Storage of Cylinders

Cylinders should be stored in a safe, dry, well-ventilated place prepared and reserved for that purpose. Flammable substances such as oil and volatile liquids or corrosivesubstances should not be stored in the same area. Oxygen cylinders and flammablegas cylinders should be stored separately, at least . meters !"# feet$, or separated bya fire proof, %. meters !& feet$ partition.

 'll storage areas shall have 'rabic and (nglish )NO SMOKING PERMITTED) signs,prominently displayed.

 'll cylinders should be chained or otherwise secured in an upright position. *o prevent

rusting, cylinders stored in the open should be protected from ground contact, extremesof weather, and the direct rays of the sun. +alve caps shall be ept in place whencylinders are not in use. Flammable substances shall not be stored within fifty !&#$ feetof cylinder storage areas.

Cylinders are not designed for temperatures in excess of & degrees Celsius !& C$ or %/# degrees Fahrenheit !%/# F$. 'ccordingly, they should be stored near sources of heat such as radiators or furnaces or near highly flammable substances lie gasoline.

Cylinder storage should be planned so that cylinders will be used in the order in whichthe are received from the supplier. (mpty and full cylinders should be stored separately,and empty cylinders should be plainly mared as such so as to avoid confusion. (mpty

cylinders should be further ept separate according to the type of gas they have held.

 'll cylinder storage rooms should be ventilated sufficiently so that explosiveconcentrations of gas cannot accumulate. Smoing or any other source of ignitionshould be prohibited. 'll wiring should be in conduit and electric switches should belocated outside the room. 'll bulbs should be enclosed by a protective glass screen.
