About Department of Instrumentation Science

Department of Instrumentation Science was instituted by Savitribai Phule Pune University in 1991. The department pursues post graduate teaching and wide area of interdisciplinary research activities. Instruments are the key to the advancement of scientific, engineering and medical research and the development of new and improved technologies. The term Instrumentation relates to the art and science of measurement and control. It includes measurement, control, operation, system design, manufacture and automation. It can be implemented in different forms in industries as per requirement. Instrumentation is a critical component of the research enterprise and thus is in part responsible for the benefits that research brings to society. Considering these aspects, the department is devoted to nurture and inculcate the culture of sensors, industrial automation, process control and instrumentation. Further department pursues a wide area of interdisciplinary research activities in the area of material science especially graphene-CNT based gas and humidity sensors, optical sensors, power electronics, scintillators, toxic metal ion detectors, photonics and lasers etc.

About Skill Development Centre

Skills and knowledge are the engines of economic growth and social development of any country. Countries with higher and better levels of knowledge and skills respond more effectively and promptly to challenges and opportunities of globalisation. A paradigm shift from education based on inputs towards education based on learning outcomes is taking place. Thus Skill Development Centre came into existence in the year 2014 for the introduction of Technical and Vocational Education with a well-intended objective to eliminate disconnect between academics and the industry. The B.Voc. programme integrate industry relevant skill set and regular college curriculum and expose students to real workplace culture. Skill Development Center will also focus on training the students in various employable skills that cater to industry and technological needs which will enhance employability. Technical and Vocational Education plays a vital role in human resource development of the country by creating skilled manpower, enhancing industrial productivity and improving the quality of life.
