Alaska, how big is it?

Alaska - An Unified System• Alaska DOC services a statewide population of 670,000• No counties• All court cases are handled in by the State of Alaska

Court System• All prisoners, except Federal prisoners, are incarcerated

by Alaska DOC• One offender management database – OTIS• Alaska Statute requires an automated victim notification

system and it be fully funded• Alaska DOC manually notifies registered victims of

felonies

Division of Institutions

• 12 Correctional Facility - 3200 prisoners• 1 Corrections Corp. of America Correctional Facility –

1000 prisoners• 15 Contract Jails- 153 beds• 7 Community Residential Centers - 614 beds• 7 community substance abuse treatment

programs – 26 beds

Division Probation & Parole

• Monitor both Probation & Parole – 5560 offenders in urban and rural communities

• 150 rural villages – most with limited or no law enforcement

• 13 District Probation/Parole Offices– 6 Offices have only one PO

• Interstate Compact offenders – 200• Sex offenders – 800• Electronic Monitoring offenders - 200

• AUTOMATED NOTIFICATION SYSTEM• TOTALLY ANONYMOUS • CITIZENS CAN SELF-REGISTER FOR NOTIFICATION USING

THEIR PHONE NUMBER OR EMAIL ADDRESS• CAN CALL IN 24 HOURS A DAY FOR INFORMATION OR

VISIT www.vinelink.com• AUTOMATIC CALL OUT OF CERTAIN EVENTS FOR THOSE

REGISTERED • PHONE REGISTRATION IS AVAILABLE IN ENGLISH,

SPANISH, RUSSIAN, AND CENTRAL YUPIK• EMAIL NOTIFICATION, 30 DAY NOTIFICATION, AND
