What the law is meant to do.

Delivery:If a delivery is more than 15 days late it can be refunded in full.

Merchant can return an item or cancel service within 15 days provided it is unused –exceptions apply.

The Merchant Details:Merchants must add their website to their commercial registration.The Merchants must list their location and contact information plus name and ID of the commercial registration on their website.

Protecting Consumers:Merchants must have terms and conditions on their website and display any special

licenses required for special products.Merchant must show the following information: accurate pricing, product information,

extra charges and insurance (if applicable).TThe merchant must provide an invoice in Arabic for each order including the price per

item, the total price and the delivery date.

Advertising:Ads must avoid infringing on trademarks.

Ads must list duration of promotion and what products are included.

Data Security:Merchants cannot keep personal data for longer than is necessary.

Merchant cannot use personal data or share it with third parties without consent from the consumer.

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry in Saudi Arabia has recently released a draft of its first ecommerce law. What does this mean for ecommerce in the Arab World?
