HRH Princess Astrid of Belgium, Archduchess of Austria-Este (born

5 June 1962) is the second child of King Albert II and Queen Paola,

and is the sister of the current Belgian monarch, King Philippe. She is

the wife of Prince Lorenz of Belgium, Archduke of Austria-Este, head

of the Austria-Este branch of the House of Habsburg-Lorraine.

Princess Astrid married Archduke Lorenz of Austria-Este, the head of

the Archducal House of Austria-Este, on 22 September 1984 at

Brussels.

Princess Astrid and Prince Lorenz have five children, who bear

the title "Prince/Princess of Belgium" (in each of the three official

languages) as members of the Belgian royal family and

Archduke/Archduchess of Austria:

Astrid was formerly President of the Belgian Red Cross,[2] a

position which ended on 31 December 2007. She declined to stand

again for election to the role in light of internal struggles in the

organization in reconciling its French-speaking and Flemish branches,

each of which seeks greater autonomy. The princess is also a colonel

in the Medical Component of the Belgian Armed Forces. Her official

residence is the Royal Palace of Laeken in Brussels.[2]

She is a member of the Honorary Board of the International

Paralympic Committee.

Upon her brother's ascension to the throne, Princess Astrid will

take on some of the duties previously conducted by Philippe as the

Honorary chairman of the board of the Foreign Trade Agency with

his wife, Queen Mathilde. Princes Astrid will then fulfill international

trips to Angola, South Africa, India and Russia to promote Belgian

trade.

The establishment of our center came into existence with the

approval of Prof. Osama S. Tayyeb. This was authorized under

Resolution No. 7139 / S on 05/13/1431 H., corresponding to

27/4/2010. In addition to the generous support of businessman Sheikh

Mohammed Hussein Al-Amoudi, who realized that the greatest investment

is with Allah and the innovative idea of breast cancer survivor and

global activist, Dr. Samia Al-Amoudi.

The historic launch of the project took place on July 4, 2010, with the

primary idea behind the Center of Excellence based on establishing a

new concept of women's healthcare in the Kingdom, namely the vital

medical issue-breast cancer. Through her work as a physician, experience

as a breast cancer survivor and efforts of spreading awareness as an

international activist, Dr. Samia has brought to light a broader vision

concerning the needs of breast cancer patients.

In addition to her visits to international centers such as the Susan G.

Komen Breast Cancer Foundation (later known as the Susan G. Komen for

the Cure), M.D. Andersen Cancer Center, The John Hopkins Center,

Harvard University and several others, Al-Amoudi realized that there

were significant deficiencies in the healthcare culture in the Kingdom, in

general, as well as the concept of healthcare for breast cancer patients,

despite the fact that there is no shortage in qualified personnel and

advanced technology.

Hence, Al-Amoudi began studying the gap in available medical services

and how to satisfy the needs of patients, given the available level of

healthcare services. In doing so, Al-Amoudi took a quantum leap in

improving the quality of services, without which healthcare as a whole

could never be complete. Thus, the Center of Excellence for Breast

Cancer was established in operating under international standards.

The Center hopes that Allah Almighty will grant them success in reshaping

women's healthcare in the Kingdom, in achieving the ultimate goal and

their motto 'towards a world-class first in women's healthcare.'
