June 1, 2015 The wet weather sure puts a damper on top down driving. We were fortunate to get the Loco Coyote run in. It looks like the weather paOern may be changing next week and hopefully things start to dry out in Texas. Unfortunately we are headed for Tennessee and the weather there is looking weOer. Oh well, what is one to do? Doug and Yvonne did an excellent job laying out and planning the Loco Coyote ride. They even did a great job on the weather. Tops were down and I even got slightly sun burned on the ride home. I think everyone had a great Xme. Loco Coyote was packed but we managed to squeeze in and had a great Xme. While in AbboO we found that Willie Nelson street signs have been put up. I guess this is bonus points for the Texas Miata Challenge. The trails in the cemetery to get to Elizabeth Crocket’s memorial were a liOle muddy so we all took home a liOle dirt from the cemetery (i.e. my car got dirty). Thanks everyone for coming along, groups like this make these rides even more fun. CongratulaXons to Janine Nelson for winning first prize for the best foreign car at the Texas Rangers Car Club Day. Janine should also have some great stories to tell about her recent trip to Georgia where she visited the Tail of the Dragon. Hope you had a great trip Janine. Richard Rogers is recovering from appendectomy surgery. Hope you are feeling beOer Richard. This was Richard’s first surgery ever, but at our age I told him he may need to get use to them. I feel your pain Richard! Our next upcoming event is the Ancient Ovens Run on June 13. Our trip to Eureka Springs is October 29 through November 1. I have blocked 20 rooms at the Hampton Inn in McAlester OK for Thursday night, October 29, and at the Best Western Inn of the Ozarks in Eureka Springs for October 30 & 31. We plan to ride to the Arkansas Grand Canyon, which is the deepest canyon in the Ozarks and is roughly 60 miles east of Eureka Springs. We also plan to take in the LiOle Golden Gate Bridge while in Eureka Springs. From McAlester we plan to drive the Talihina Trail and the Pigs Trail on the way to Eureka Springs. We will need to get a head count to get restaurant reservaXons and make other plans. Thinking of the future, I would like to see us do a club planning meeXng in January where we try to lay out events and trips. We also need to consider revising or updaXng our Club By-‐Laws and creaXng a yearly budget. I would like to see a budget so we can beOer plan for a Christmas Party and a few other events that would be at least parXally paid for by the club. Our next club meeXng will be June 27. Bruce Gibson President LSMC
I was overwhelmed by everyone that came out to pay respects to Jim. I thank all of you for your support and kind words. We had a fantasXc weekend at the roundup. He enjoyed seeing old friends and making new ones. I hope to see you all soon. Thanks again for everything.

This would involve driving over there in the late morning. Having a tour of the winery. Having a wine tasXng hosted by one of the Winery staff, maybe accompanied by an appeXzer tray. And having a lunch starXng in the 1 to 2 pm Xme frame. Terrie and I ate there last fall, and the food was delicious. Probably leave to head home about 3 or 4. It would be an easy drive on I-‐20 or I-‐30 coming home where people could leave any Xme on their own. Richard Rogers
LSMC 5th Annual Ancient Ovens Fun Run June 13, 2015
Time for another fun run! New and old roads and definitely new game questions for 2015!
The Details - Meet at the ticket box office (on the back side of the building) of Texas Motor Speedway for instructions and clues. Watch for an Evite with time details. Please be sure to have a full tank of gas when you arrive because the course is about 100-120 miles long.
After the run, we’ll meet up in the town square of St. Jo for the drive down the hill to Ancient Ovens. Word of warning – the road and the driveway to Ancient Ovens is hard packed dirt/gravel. It’s not bad but you wouldn’t want to race down that road! Denis will let us in to park our cars in the car corral so we must arrive there by 7:30 pm.
Dinner – we will be seated at a large table (or 2) just for us. Tea, water and ice are provided. It’s also BYOB – bring your own booze. Dinner is served per course buffet style. Eat all you want – you won’t go hungry! Check out their web site www.ancientovens.com. We have space for 24 people, and this deal fills up fast so don’t delay in RSVP’ing. RSVP & Payment – the fine print– To RSVP your spot, we need to collect full payment up front. It’s still just $23 per person ($20 to eat, $3 for tip). This is because of the large number of no shows from last year’s event! Denis only prepares enough food for what we tell him, so that means his costs are fixed per our reservation. Any questions or concerns, just let me know. Gerry & Suzanne Sauls [email protected] 817-680-8922

Hey All, Just got the email from Kelly that we DO have our second Sunday for the State Fair. The theme this year is "Passport To Texas” I assume we will be in the front corral. The CorveOe Legends of Texas will be in the other Corral. YES, Sunday, October 4, (second Sunday). We have not received the documents yet, but I'm sure we will have to buy insurance, so we will be asking aOendees for $5.00.

Good news! I have secured rooms in Alamogordo, only a short scenic 25 mountain climbing miles from Cloudcroq! While rooms are really high (literally) in Cloudcroq and Ruidoso during the "high season", things are different in Alamogordo. There are also many aOracXons there and as I said, we'll be driving up to the mountains and through the Mescalero Indian reservaXons on most of our runs while there! The weather in Alamogordo can be quite warm, but I can assure you, when you get up into those mountains, the temps fall fast! I've blocked off 30 rooms at the Magnuson Hotel and Suites, 1021 S. White Sands Blvd, Alamogordo, New Mexico, 88310 for September 4th, 5th and 6th. Price is $60.00 +tax per night for a double (2 Queens) or a King. If you want a suite, the price is $99.00 +tax. Call for reservaXons using "Head for the Mountains" as the event name and ask for BriUany. Their direct number is (575) 437-‐2110. Call now and reserve your room! Rooms will go fast because this year we'll be joined by members of the Lone Star Club (DFW Metroplex), Tejas Club (AusXn) and possibly the clubs in New Mexico, Oklahoma and even California! Thanks to Judi PriveO, we already have a logo pictured below and will be on our t-‐shirts. Barring any price raises, I plan on the shirts being the same price as last year, $16.50 each or 2 for $30.00. Let me know if and when you want to place your order. I hope you all join in and Head for the Mountains with us!

From your editor Don’t forget the photo sharing site at hOp://lonestarmiataclub.shuOerfly.com/. You have to create a free ShuOerfly account to gain access. I know many of you (including me) already had a ShuOerfly account, so it should be an easy way for us to share photos of events and “stuff.” We also share photos on Facebook, so join us at the Lone Star Miata group. When you lead a drive, please download and print parXcipant waivers from hOp://lsmiata.org/events/. There is a track waiver and a street/rally waiver, so print the right one. It’s a good idea to have maps with your phone number printed on them for a trip. Also be sure to bookmark the home page hOp://lsmiata.org to get all the latest informaXon about us. Janine has cards to leave on Miatae we see out and about. This is a great way to invite them to the club. Pick your cards up from her. I have included all the upcoming events I know about. If you have anything you would like to see in the newsleOer please let me know. Please feel free to contact me at [email protected]. Julia

Newsletter Submissions & Distribution Ads, announcements, articles, trip reports and other contributions to the newsletter are encouraged. Email submissions to [email protected]. Attachments may be in .pdf, .txt, Word or WordPerfect format. Pictures may be in any of the usual formats such as .gif, .jpg, png, etc. If I have any problems with document or picture format, I will contact you. Don’t worry about spelling, grammar, artwork, layout, etc. I’m just pleased to receive input and will take care of the editing and cosmetics! Also, if you find something interesting online, please send me the link. Input is welcome anytime, but must be received prior to the publishing deadline (usually the first of the month) to be in the next issue. NOTE: If you want the newsletter sent to more than one email address, your secondary driver, or anyone else, please send your name (so I know you’re a member) and the email address(es) to [email protected]. ANOTHER NOTE: Member in Good Standing (you’ve paid your dues) may submit ad copy or info on their business. Does not have to be a Miata- or car-related business, but it must be your business. Others may advertise, too, for a fee. Contact the [email protected] for details.
Two-Way Radios For more fun on drives, if you don’t have a two-way radio, get one. Without one, you miss out on a lot of chat and decision making as to stops, etc. Most importantly, should you get separated from the group or have car trouble; it makes it much easier for us to find you and assist you! LSMC uses GMRS/FRS radios for better range and reception. An operating license is not required when used in the FRS range.
Stuff for Sale and Announcements LSMC permits all members in good standing to place a free ad or event announcement in the LSMC Newsletter. The item should relate to the Miata or Club activities. This includes activities hosted by other clubs, Car-related events of general interest are also welcome. Contact the editor at [email protected] to place an ad or announcement.
