Summers in the mountains have been a source of creative renewal for generations of nature and music lovers, as the fresh morning air, the wide-ranging views from hard-earned peaks, and the mysteries of water and wildlife in rocky Alpine landscapes awe and inspire. The Unbound Chamber Music Festival, with its annual line-up of world-class performers and beloved works of music has become a cherished tradition in Mammoth’s majestic mountain-scape.

Our sparkling opening night centers on the story teller “SCHEHERAZADE”, whose intimate magic emanates from four hands on one piano. Flutist Mercedes Smith, new to our Festival All-Stars, enchants with Beethoven’s Serenade, and Brahms’s gorgeous String Sextet opus 18 rings through the night.

“GARDEN OF EDEN” captures the florid imagination of the Classical Czech composer Hummel and bears the fruits of Franck’s passion for a composer colleague… The uniquely American Romanticism of Amy Beach blossoms in her Theme and Variations.

May we tempt you to commit to Saturday’s double header of “SAVOR THE SOUNDS” and “SUMMER RHAPSODY”? Varied musical fare includes rarely heard things by Reger and Enesco, as well as beloved masterpieces like Vivaldi’s Summer in the nimble hands of virtuoso violinist Corey Cerovsek.

Week two opens with “GOBLINS’ DANCE”, a light-spirited program of works by Shostakovich (the lovely pieces for two violins and piano), a two-cello quintet by Bazzini, and the immortal Dvořák Piano Quintet, led by the venerable James Winn, pianist of the Argenta Trio.

A sheer “FOUNTAIN OF JOY” is Beethoven’s String Quartet op. 18 no.2, which overflows with exuberance in violinist Jun-Ching Lin’s interpretation, and is framed by equally vivacious works from the pens of Mendelssohn and Dohnányi.

The award-winning German violinist Sabrina-Vivian Höpcker is featured on Saturday’s double-bill. Make your festival finale a day steeped in music, and enjoy the great range

of musical o�erings which begin with tasty bits in “FOOD OF LOVE” and conclude with the “PERFECT

CHEMISTRY” of Alexander Borodin!
