Thank you so much for the guitar. It’s really cool, and the Monster Cable™ really works well. The day after I got them I used them both at Church of the Risen Lord. The guitar sounds awesome, especially with the capo (much better than the old one I had), and the guitar itself sounds so good. I’m really happy to have a guitar like the one you gave me.

John 1: 1-12

God’s Word

• It is practical.

• It addresses real problems.

• It offers real solutions.

Deuteronomy 23:12-13

 12 Designate a place outside the camp where you can go to relieve yourself. 13 As part of your equipment have something to dig with, and when you relieve yourself, dig a hole and cover up your excrement.

John 1:1-5

• 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning.  3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.

John 1:6-9

• 6 There came a man who was sent from God; his name was John. 7 He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe. 8 He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. 9 The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world.

John 1:10-12

• 10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—

Eye witness to the life and ministry of Jesus

John 21:24 This is the disciple who testifies to these things and who wrote them down. We know that his testimony is true.

• What kind of man was he?

• Could I relate to him?

• Father was Zebedee and mother was Salome. (Mark 15 and 16)

• Salome was likely the sister of Mary the mother of Jesus. (John 19:25)

• He had a Temper– Mark 3:17  James son of Zebedee and his

brother John (to them he gave the name Boanerges, which means Sons of Thunder)

• He was Intolerant– Luke 9:53-54 53 but the people there did not

welcome him, … 54 When the disciples James and John saw this, they asked, "Lord, do you want us to call fire down from heaven to destroy them?"

• Member of Inner Circle of Disciples– Peter, James and John always head the

names in the list (Acts 1:13)

• The disciple Jesus Loved– Referred to 5 times this way in scripture

• Man of Courage– Stood with Peter before the Sanhedrin Acts 4

“John was a strange mixture. He was one of the leaders of the Twelve; he was one of the inner circle of Jesus' closest friends; at the same time he was a man of temper and ambition and intolerance, and yet of courage.” William Barclay

John is Addressing

• Gnostic thought.

• Spirit and Matter can have no connection.

• Jesus could not have been God.

• Jesus could not have been man– He left no foot prints

Jesus was God

Jesus was Light and Life

•Jesus gave the possibility of new life

Jesus = Restoration with God

John 1:11-12 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—

•Those who believe in Jesus receive Him.•Those who receive him become his children.

John 3:16

John 3:16 16"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

•Gnostics taught that God could not love the world.

•Jesus showed us that he did!

• Are we among those who recognize who Jesus is?

• Are we among those who experience light and new life?

• Are we among those who put our faith in Jesus and have become children of God?
