Nottingham Presbyterian Church celebrated the life of Betty Brown, Sunday May 20. Betty was a vibrant part of our Church family, being the first to use our stair chair and enjoying laughs after pot lucks. She also liked to do skits, and dress up for birthday par-ties. The top picture is Betty dressed as “The Queen” for Jerry and Barb Jackson’s daughter’s 40th birthday party. May we all live life to the fullest like Betty!

Why don’t people know about this……. I ANNOUNCED IT! You’ve heard it, you’ve said it. Now consider this:

5 and 3. For something to stick, peo-ple need to hear something 5 times 3

different ways. You have to tell folks multiple times, multiple ways.

The more ways you give a message,

the more likely it will be received. If you only announce an event one Sun-

day during announcements, it’s easy for it to be overlooked or forgotten.

Announcements are an important way to remind the congregation of an

impending event or need, but we need to spread the message in more

ways, more times. This helps both to reach those not in attendance on a

given Sunday and to remind those who intend to act but may have for-

gotten. Think about how you get in-formation and what makes you most

likely to remember. Email, Social Media, the newsletter or bulletin, Fa-

cebook and the Church website – use all the tools at your disposal to reach

as many people as possible!

Pastor Merritt with her parents.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Thank you does not seem like nearly enough to say. Thank you for your prayers. Thank you for your support. Thank you for telling me to go when my family needed me. Thank you for being so strong in the Spirit that you knew you could handle things – even matters like finding a pastor to preach on Sunday morning on short notice, as well as one to lead the memorial service that same day. (And a special thank you to Jack Dunlap for being the pastor to step up for doing both services!) Thank you for sur-rounding my family and me with love and care. Thank you for the very generous gift you all provided, which covered the expenses of this unex-pected trip. Thank you for knowing what it means to be the family of God in Jesus Christ! As I pondered these inadequate expressions of the love and grace I am feeling, I realized that this is just what God asks of us. God does not worry about extravagant expressions of devotion. God does not ask us to grovel in the face of our mistakes, or even our sins. We cannot pay enough to cover the cost of the grace which God freely gives. What God does ask of us is that we rejoice and give thanks for the love, redemption and new life which we receive in God’s gift of Jesus Christ. God asks that we proclaim God’s love by the way we treat one another, by the forgiveness we offer to one another, by the hope we pro-vide to others. By living in this way, we give thanks to God for all God’s generosity to us and extend God’s offer of grace to others. Second Corin-thians 4:11 reads: “All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God.” (We will be using this verse in our call to worship on June 3.) God does not ask for thanksgiving in order to make God feel good anymore than you all have been so generous with my family and me for the purpose of receiving thanks. The thanks, given to God and to you, come from a heart overflowing with God’s love – just as the giving of the gifts of prayer and support have come from the overflowing of God’s love in your hearts and the heart of God. God knows how much we each need to appreciate love which is given, and how much we need to express that appreciation. No gift of love should be taken for granted, least of all God’s magnificent gift of Jesus Christ! The heart which cannot feel thanks is a broken heart. The world is full of broken hearts. Let us serve God, and give thanks for all the love we receive in Jesus Christ, by living in the Holy Spirit, overflowing with thanks for the grace which God wishes to endow to all creation. Let us love in Christ’s name, empowered by the Spirit. This is the best way to give thanks to God! With thanksgiving and love, Merritt

A day in the life of an NPC Scrip sleuth…. Starts like any other day. Hungry for donuts, the suspect (known as “SHE”) heads to Dunkin’ Donuts for coffee and breakfast. SHE pulls out her iPhone, the clerk scans it - $5 spent, BOOM 25 DD points earned (on top of the 2/$3 “perks offer” used from the app) registered gift card on the app. CaChing - $.15 earned for the Church Weekly groceries next: Before going into Giant, SHE sits and clicks off the coupons from the Gi-ant ap she will be using. No scissors required. Up and down the aisle. The clerk scans her Gi-ant rewards card. This week was $100 after $3 in app coupons. SHE pays with the Giant gift card she purchased Sunday after Worship. BOOM $.10 off on gas just earned. CaChing - $5.00 earned for the Church Next stop – ink for the printer and paper. Sta-ples. SHE has brought ink cartridges to recycle. Some day ink will not be so expensive, at least the paper is on sale today. The clerk scans her Staples loyalty card, counts the ink cartridges ($2 in rewards for each ink cartridge!) then rings everything up. Another $100 sale. SHE pays with a Staples gift card. BOOM 2% back in re-wards plus the cartridges. CaChing - $5.00 earned for the Church We’re in Delaware, cheap gas. OK pull into Royal Farms. Small car so SHE only needed $25 of gas. Luckily SHE has her gift card with her AND her Royal Farms rewards card. BOOM 25 points added to her rewards. CaChing - $1.00 earned for the Church Prescription pick up – next stop CVS. Prescrip-tions, shampoo, candy on sale, all add up to an-other $100. Again, clerk scans CVS loyalty card and her gift card. BOOM 2% back in rewards plus the extra bucks she earned from the pre-scription refill. CaChing - $6.00 earned for the Church Her CVS reloadable gift card is getting low. SHE makes a note to reload it by PrestoPay when she gets home. Todays totals:

Rewards at every stop $17. 15 for the Church!
