food vendorsThis year we've yet again stepped up our food game and are oering quite an expansive variety of cuisine. Don't worry, we aren't getting rid of traditional festival fare like corn dogs and funnel cakes, but we are excited to oer healthier options like veggie paninis and superfood smoothies. You will be able to choose from a multitude of food vendors serving up everything from Hawaiian noodles and liquid nitrogen ice cream to Cajun chicken eggrolls and French crêpes. Whatever you’re craving and whatever your budget, you’ll be able to find something to satisfy your hunger.

We’re thrilled that the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition will host a bike valet during the festival again this year. This means you can go green, ride to the festival and easily park for free at the Bike Valet. You’ll find it just inside the park next to the Milledge Fountain at the intersection of Milledge Ave and Cherokee Ave.

Grant Park is not just a neighborhood surrounding a park of the same name; it is a community. As such, the Summer Shade Festival welcomes numerous Community Partners to exhibit at the festival. We hope that in between listening to some live music, grabbing a beer, and perusing our Artist Market you will take the opportunity to talk with our community partners and learn how they are helping to make Grant Park such a wonderful place.

Parking is complimentary, but donations to the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition will be accepted to support the organization’s mission to create a healthier, more sustainable Atlanta by making it safer, easier and more attractive to bicycle for fun, fitness and transportation.

The Grant Park Conservancy (GPC) is a non-profit, membership-based organization. We are committed to the restoration, beautification and maintenance of historic Grant Park, Atlanta’s oldest and fourth largest park.

GPC is funded entirely by donations. As such, we cannot make an impact in the park without your help! There are several ways you can get involved:

• Find us online at www.gpconservancy.org and click on “Donate.”

• Become a member at any level, purchase a commemorative brick for a loved one, or simply donate to the Conservancy.

• Visit our Farmers Market every Sunday from 9:00am until 1:00pm from April through December at Milledge Fountain and support local farmers and craspeople.

• While membership is key to our success, we also need volunteers to help us with projects throughout the year. You can help by volunteering for Project GRANT workdays and help with mulching, planting, woodland restoration, trash removal and more. If you are interested in volunteering with the GPC, find out more at www.gpconservancy.org.

Our current projects include the Milledge Triangle Initiative, upgrading the picnic areas throughout the park, focusing on woodland restoration and the park’s special tree canopy, and the ambitious Historic Preservation Project.

The Conservancy relies on your memberships, donations and participation to continue our mission. Visit our booth, and we’ll sign you up as a member today. Sign up onsite at the festival and get a free beer! You can purchase Summer Shade and GPC t- shirts, with all proceeds going to the Conservancy for park improvements. Please consider becoming a member and supporting the Conservancy today!

FAQS

MORE INFO @

When is the Grant Park Summer Shade Festival this year? The Grant Park Summer Shade Festival is always held during the last weekend in August. This year’s dates are Saturday, August 24 and Sunday, August 25, 2018 and is the festival’s 17th year!

How many people come to the festival?Over the course of both days, the festival gets 30,000 visitors on average. It’s a great place to meet your friends, grab a frosty beverage, do some people-watching and enjoy the free entertainment.

What are the hours? The festival opens at 10am on Saturday and ends at 10pm on Saturday night. The artist market is open until 7pm. The festival opens again at 11am on Sunday and wraps up at 7:30pm on Sunday evening.

Where can I park?Parking in and around Grant Park will be limited because of the Boulevard parking lot closure, so you're going to need to get creative! We hope you will consider using alternative methods of transportation to visit the park and attend the festival.

MARTA just announced a new route through Grant Park, route 832, which is a good option for getting here. Of course, you can also walk, rideshare, carpool, ride your bike and park it at the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition's Bike Valet, ride a Relay Bike, or ride an electric scooter! Don't ride your horse because there is no place to hitch it while you enjoy the festival, and pets are not allowed. If you do choose to drive, limited parking options will include the Cherokee lot (free) and Parkside Elementary (paid).

What if I get injured at the festival? There is an EMT on hand to handle any injuries or medical emergencies that may occur during the festival.

What does the festival oer for kids?Children of all ages can enjoy the Summer Shade Festival Kids Zone. The Kids Zone features art activities, as well as active options such a bungee jump, inflatable slide and more. Don’t worry- we’ll keep the kiddos entertained!

The festival is in August. What if I get too hot?You can visit one of several misting tents that will provide you with a cool spray as you meander through the festival. And of course, there will be plenty of cold beverages available to keep you hydrated.

Is the festival free?Yes!What is the Summer Shade Festival?

The Summer Shade Festival is a thriving, two-day in town festival in historic Grant Park, organized by and benefitting the Grant Park Conservancy.

Can I bring my dog?No, sorry. Dogs are not allowed at outdoor festivals, per Atlanta city ordinance [Section 110-70(d).

We strongly encourage all of our festival attendees to patronize the fabulous food vendors we have carefully and thoughtfully selected. We are proud of the wide range of cuisine oerings and are confident that there is something for every craving and budget. You will also find several free water stations throughout the festival, so stay hydrated! It's hot, even in the shade! Please keep in mind that this is a fundraiser for the Grant Park Conservancy and all the alcohol sales benefit the park. That means you are drinking for a good cause! For this reason, outside alcohol is not allowed.
