WHAT IS TYPE 1 DIABETES? Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disease in which a person’s pancreas stops producing insulin, a hormone people need to getenergy from food. T1D strikes both children and adults, and its onset has nothing to do with diet or lifestyle. There is currently nothingyou can do to prevent it, and there is no cure.

WHO IS JDRF? The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) is the leadingglobal organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research.Founded in 1970 by a small group of parents determined to find acure for their children JDRF has funded $2 billion to research.JDRF was created—and is still led—by people with a personalconnection to T1D. Today, volunteers at JDRF’s dozens of locationsworldwide remain the driving force behind activities.

JDRF has always been dedicated to maintaining the highest levelsof efficiency to ensure that their time, resources, and dollars canachieve the greatest possible impact on the lives of people withT1D. They have a solid track record of funding research efficientlyand effectively. Approximately 80 percent of what JDRF spendsgoes directly to research and research-related education—amongthe highest percentages for charities nationwide.

About the JDRF One WalkJDRF One Walk is a fun, family-friendly event where dedicated walkers, volunteers and sponsors raise money to make living with T1D saferand healthier—until it is no longer a threat. As the largest T1D event in the world, it's also an amazing experience to be a part of.

The Jacksonville JDRF One Walk will take place on Saturday, April 7th at Metro Park with check-in beginning at 8 a.m. and the three-milewalk kicking off at 9 a.m. There will be fun activities for children and families throughout the morning and lunch following the walk providedby generous donors including Firehouse Subs, Coffee Perks and More! The JDRF One Walk is much more than just “a walk” – it’s amorning of celebration in honor of the fundraising and advocacy leading up to the day. This year’s fundraising goal for the JacksonvilleJDRF One Walk is $443,000 and 5,000 are expected to take part in the special day.

Registration of teams is requested in advance at walk.jdrf.org. While there is no minimum to participate in the walk, individuals who raise$100 or more will receive a commemorative JDRF Walk t-shirt. Register your corporate team today online at walk.jdrf.org/Jacksonville!
