Saturday 25 th June 2016 PREMIER LEAGUE Ladies Melville Toyota League vs CTP (Won 3 - 2) 2016-05-29 Goals: C. Carter, K. Young, E. Stratton Round 6 saw Melville secure their first win of the season, with a 3-2 victory over Curtain Trinity Pirates. The opening 15 minutes was a fairly even battle, with both teams having some attacking opportunities, but neither goalkeeper was really tested. The battle of the two midfields was always going to be tough, and this was evident when at the 19 minute mark Melville’s Mathilda Carmichael earned herself a green card for a questionable tackle. Pirates were unable to capitalise during the 2 minutes with an extra player, and Melville’s Lizzie Stratton put away the first goal of the game, with a lovely deflection on the back post, following some flowing midfield work mainly by Preah Hetherington. Not long after, Hope Jobe made a dashing lead out in the right midfield channel, the ball was given to her, and with an instant she had crossed it into the circle to Kim Young, who then netted her first goal of the season. Half time and Melville were up 2-0, despite Pirates having had 10 circle entries to Melville’s 8 in the first half. Second half came around, and Melville started brightly, with a well executed penalty corner being nicely deflected in by Chloe Carter, to extend the lead out to 3-0. However, this seemed to kick Pirates into gear as they began to dominate possession and stepped up their physicality. They made Melville pay for a defensive lapse, and shortly after executed a short corner of their own, to bring the score back to 3-2, with 15 minutes to play. To highlight the intensity of the battle, 3 yellow cards were given in the second half, 2 to Pirates and one to Melville. Ladies Premier 2 vs CT Pirates (Lost 1 - 3) 2016-05-29 Goals: K. Hocking This week we came up against a team that has been a power team in this grade for a few years now and we knew we had to bring everything to get the result. The first 20 minutes saw us have some great attacking play and Kim score a very nice goal. Unfortunately after that it went down hill. Poor basics, poor structure and poor decision making led to Pirates scoring 3 goals in 10 minutes. We now know what we need to fix and then we will be back on the winners board. Big thanks to Bruce for filming the game for us.

Mens Premier Alliance vs OGMHC (Won 8 - 0) 2016-05-29 Goals: D. Ogden (3), M. Yow (2), A. McIntyre (2), T. Lasevicius When my post match comments only lasts a few seconds the team was either really good or really bad. Thankfully we were really good. 4 goals in each half and they a gusto rendition of the club song. The team scored 8 goals : Tristan, Amac 2 Mav 2 Dave O 3 but best of all we kept a clean sheet. Jono R made a couple of great saves to keep the ball out after an extended stint with the 2s. An interesting team make up caused by unfortunate 1s team injuries and State squad training - 3 double ups from the 2s, 3 double ups from the 4s and a maiden outing this year by Patrick Welsh. Patrick played a heap of minutes and did well but I wonder if he can walk upright this morning. Lloyd brought his buddy AJ along. Both added muscle and intent to the forward press and were unlucky not to score goals. AJ managed to talk during the pre match briefing, most of his playing minutes, the

half time briefing and the post match comments too. He shouted out player substitutions, team make up on the pitch and lastly which pub to get a beer and counter lunch. Legend!! Well played everyone.

Mens Premier Alliance vs Westside Wolves (Lost 1 - 2) 2016-06-12 Goals: A. McIntyre 3s - Sunday 12/6 before the rain came. Now I know how Russ and Patrick felt against OG. We lost 2-1. Scored first and had 2 SC's saved off the line. Another good solo effort by Amac. A common theme - first touch control, accurate passing and composure under pressure. All were issues at some time during the match. Wolves initially had an efficient zone but we battled through that. Created opportunities and several almost great plays. Pat on the back for Jono R. Excellent shot stopping and SC defence. Thankfully we have next week and another opportunity to improve.

Mens Premier Alliance vs CT Pirates (Won 4 - 1) 2016-06-18 Goals: A. Rayfield, P. Welsh, J. Ross, J. Wakefield 3s - last cab off a very busy and successful rank. Great night of hockey for MCHC. Well done 1s and 2s. 3s beat Pirates 4-1. Conceded a goal inside 90 seconds and then dominated the rest of the match. Some excellent passing moves throughout the game lead to 3 field goals - Josh W, Alex R and Jamie R plus an SC by Patrick Welsh. Still sure the option was for a back post deflection but who cares when it crosses the line. Best players and most memorable moments? Thought the whole team did well. Some great close skills by twinkle toes Potter and Sean B played really well too but stand out was Oggy for efforts above and beyond. First he gives the 2s coach a massage and then collapses lick a sack of spuds after a particularly gutless individual decides to whack

his Crown Jewels a couple of times and then run off before Dave could get up. (A very smart move) Well done everyone. Very pleasing win.

PROVISIONAL LEAGUE Ladies Provisional 1 vs YMCC (Won 1 - 0) 2016-05-25 Best: M. Woodforde, S. Bowyer, C. Dawes Goals: S. Bowyer Round 7 saw Melville 4s take on YMCC. A win would have out us top of the table, however YM are a strong team and are also at the top end of the ladder. With multiple players out for various reasons, and neither coach available due to their own games, it was going to require the girls to step up and take control themselves. They did just this, and came away with a 1-0 victory, as Sarah Bowyer scored the goal in the final 30 seconds! YM made it difficult throughout the match, as they pressed quite well, preventing us from transferring the ball from one side of the pitch to the other. Their goalkeeper played a solid game, and made many saves throughout. It most

definitely wasn't all one way traffic, as Melville's keeper, Tearne also had some work to do. All in all, a good game between two of the top teams in the league!!

Ladies Provisional 1 vs Hale (Won 3 - 1) 2016-06-11 Goals: S. Chiswell, R. Harrup, M. Northover Coming up against hale we knew it would be a hard fought contest. The girls were fired up from the get go and started with a bang scoring in the first 5 minutes through their ball speed and short passes. We then started to go away from that and the goals slowed down. After the half time break the girls came out and put two quick goals on the board to take a 3 goal lead. It was disappointing to concede with a few minutes to go but all in all it was a good game to watch and coach and good to see all the girls finally putting everything into the game that we practice every training

Mens Provisional 2 (Black) vs Joondalup (Won 5 - 1) 2016-05-28 Best: R. Weddikkara, A. Halliday, B. Joss Goals: J. Pickering, M. Scally, R. Weddikkara, N. Elliott, A. Halliday Prime time at Duracraft Stadium, the crowds flocked to see the Prov 2 Black juggernaut continue on its journey. After a flat start, the crowds seem to dissipate fairly promptly to the point that questions have to be asked what they were doing there in the first place. Nevertheless the game continued and whilst a comprehensive victory achieved the game never achieved any great heights with many pointing the finger at the planned post game outing creating an unnecessary distraction – we have learnt our lesson with the only other post game function scheduled for grand final day. Slug gets the 3 votes as he scored an actual field goal from further than 2 yards out.

Mens Provisional 2 (Black) vs UWA (Lost 0 - 3) 2016-06-12 Best: M. Read, R. Rushton, R. Williams A disappointing result in disappointing conditions. Full credit to the opposition who stopped us from controlling the midfield, and took their chances up front when they came. Thanks again to the guys who filled in. Losing sucks.

Mens Provisional 2 (Black) vs Aquinas (Won 1 - 0) 2016-06-18 Best: B. Wake, D. Reay, B. Joss Goals: M. Read With a solid 10 minute warm up and two guys still enroute at the start of the game, it was no great surprise we struggled to get into game early. A couple of chances go begging for each side saw a half time deadlock. Spurred on by some insightful self reflection, we started the second half with a bit more impetus, which eventually led to Matt scoring and celebrating with himself. After a foot of god goal was disallowed which would have been the second, Reds made a couple of final forays, with Brad being the difference at the defensive end.

Ladies Provisional 4 (Black) vs OGMHC (Drew 0 - 0) 2016-05-28 Best: B. Irvine, E. Hopkins, C. Corsini After a shaky start to the game the latter of the first half saw the girls start to move the ball with good effect. The second half was defiantly won, with more than one opportunity to score presenting itself and some good hard work midfield and in defence. The draw didn't reflect the true nature of the game, a win here would have been a just result. It shows what is possible, but it will take some hard work now to ensure results are achieved on the ladder.

Ladies Provisional 4 (Black) 2016-06-12 Best: C. Hobbs, E. Hopkins, G. Repton Goals: C. Corsini, N. Stevens In cold and trying conditions any team that can remain composed and maintain pressure will win games. To our ladies credit they did just that this week. The work defensively and through the midfield was excellent and the step up in the second half by the forwards resulted in a pretty decisive 2 nil win. Our game plan was executed well, some more work in the press and pressure on the ball will ensure good results will continue to be had. Thanks to Crystal, Jo and Nia for helping us out this week.

METRO LEAGUE Ladies Metro 1 vs Harlies Wanneroo (Drew 3 - 3) 2016-06-11 Best: M. Farrow, M. Guerin/S. Wilson, J. Coad Goals: D. Murphy, R. Roberts, A. Williams Well we thought we had this one but they evened the score just as the final whistle blew, need to man up tighter girls. We had our chances in the first half with some spectacular near misses on goal and as it so often goes we seemed to have control then they slip past for the easy ones. First time playing this team, it was a strong physical game with some great passages of play. Special thanks to Jan for being "The Voice" and to all our spectators, great to see you there.

Ladies Metro 1 vs Pirates (Won 4 - 1) 2016-06-18 Best: M. Farrow, M. Leighton, C. Caydamar Goals: M. Leighton, D. Murphy, R. Roberts, S. Wilson Sue loved your "I'm going to get a goal then I can come off" no pressure but if you want a rest, no objections to doing that again. Allison welcome back to the grass. What superstars! Currently sitting second on the ladder whoohoo!!!

Ladies O35 Division 4 vs WASPS (Won 1 - 0) 2016-06-08 Best: D. Murphy, G. Hogg, N. Ogden Goals: G. Hogg A venue switch saw us road tripping for the late game to Lark Hill (not to be confused with Fox Hill). Not one of our most exciting games but the winning goal did come from Gwenda's awesome shot around the highly mobile full back. As the kids would say..apparently we pulled a big one with the legendary after game drinks.

Ladies O35 Division 4 vs Fremantle (Drew 2 - 2) 2016-06-13 Best: D. Murphy, W. Joyce, C. Smith Goals: J. Rosso, A. Williams Finally an early game, although one would never know as we still manage to get home at the same time. With the barman missing in action, Nicola and Wendy are the Queens of the night, bolting to avoid near disaster. You gals rock!!

Ladies O35 Division 4 vs Curtin Trinity Pirates (Lost 0 - 4) 2016-06-22 Best: G. Hogg, O. Hasselerharm, D. Murphy/H. Doyle A slow game in the wet and it wasn't our night...but drinks were pretty good.

Mens O40 Division 4 vs Lions 5 (Won 4 - 2) 2016-05-28 Goals: B. Kennington (4) Melville started strongly scoring 2 goals early in the first half to establish an good lead and dominating much of the play for the remainder of the first half. However Lions continued to apply pressure and were rewarded with a late goal to bring the game back to a relatively equal status. The second half began with considerable pressure being applied by Lions. Melville withstood the pressure and increased their lead by scoring again. Lions continued to play competitive hockey and eventually score their second goal and laying the challenge down to Melville. At this point the game became scappy with neither team able to benefit on the score board. Close to the end of the game Melville put the final result out of the question by converting from some spirited field play. The game ended with the final result being 4-2 in Melville’s favour.

Mens O40 Division 4 vs Newman Knights (Lost 0 - 2) 2016-06-12 This was a very hotly contested game with close marking and defensive dominance. The first half was very even with both teams having limited opportunities as the ball move backwards and forwards between the two defences. The second half was dominated by Melville with the majority of time spent in their offensive half. Unfortunately Melville was unable to capitalise on their opportunities missing numerous field goal opportunities and a penalty flick. Newman however were much more efficient scoring twice off rare defensive errors by Melville to win. The game was played in good spirits generally and fair sportsmanship.

Mens O50 Division 1 vs Vic Park (Drew 2 - 2) 2016-04-23 Best: M. Watson, R. Achemedei, D. Loffell Goals: D. Ross (2) Hard fought, resulting in a draw from a corner, in the last play of the game!

Mens O50 Division 1 vs YM (Lost 0 - 4) 2016-05-07 Best: G. Ross, M. Watson, D. Loffell Out played by a better team on the day. Again we get to measure our progress in a return fixture later in the season. [Melville and YM needed to provide the umpires as fixtured umpires did not turn up.]

Mens O50 Division 1 vs North Coast Raiders (Won 2 - 1) 2016-05-14 Best: M. Watson, D. Loffell, R. Achemedei Goals: R. Achemedei, M. Watson Consistent team effort for the duration of the game secured the first win for the season. Thanks to Harps and Egg for filling in and contributing to the success.

Mens O50 Division 1 vs Aquinians (Won 2 - 1) 2016-05-21 Best: R. Achemedei, K. Harper, D. Loffell Goals: D. Ross, R. Achemedei Another consistent team effort for the duration of the game provided a win. The score could have been significantly higher with a large number of near misses by us, ensured Aquinas were always in the game pressing to the final whistle.

Mens O50 Division 1 vs Hale (Won 4 - 3) 2016-05-28 Best: D. Loffell, R. Achemedei, G. Ranford/K. Dempster Goals: D. Loffell, A. Chellew, C. Simpson-Bint, K. Harper Another great win built upon a consistent team effort, when we lead at half time and Hale levelled the score on three occasions, and we responded with a growing belief in our ability as team.

Mens O50 Division 1 vs Mods (Lost 0 - 5) 2016-04-16 Best: D. Loffell, M. Watson, G. Currie Up against a top team. We meet them a few more times and will be able to measure our progress as a team during the season.

Mens O50 Division 1 vs Mods (Lost 1 - 2) 2016-06-11 Best: D. Loffell, K. Harper, M. Watson Goals: R. Achemedei Tremendous and hard fought game against the top team. We have provided the closest challenge to them as no other team has got within 1 goal of Mods in 8 rounds. Additionally it was a nil all draw in the second half. We showed superb improvement from the previous game against Mod's, playing with passion, teamwork and renewed self belief.

Mens O50 Division 1 vs Vic Park (Lost 2 - 3) 2016-06-18 Best: D. Loffell, G. Ross, K. Dempster/G. Ranford The Team was decimated by player outs this week. Thank you to those players that filled in. Our defence held up well, continually repelling Vic Park forays. We had our opportunities in the circle and were unlucky not to pull off a draw.

Mens O50 Division 2 (Gold) vs Vic Park (Won 8 - 1) 2016-05-28 Best: S. Silvey, K. Harper, G. Hunt Goals: G. Hunt (3), G. Coleman (2), K. Harper (2), C. Slattery Vic Park scored first, but Harps managed to sneak one between the goalies pads to score his second ever goal off a short corner. Slats inspired us by doubling his lifetime tally of goals, shortly before half time, to put us in front. After a slow start to the second half Harps fired in a rocket off a short corner and the floodgates opened. Egg compiled a hattrick to round out a successful day.

Mens O50 Division 2 (Gold) vs Curtin Trinity Pirates (Drew 3 - 3) 2016-06-18 Best: P. Matthews/B. Morrison, S. Silvey Goals: P. Matthews (2), A. Starling We started well, letting the two newcomers score the first two goals, just to make them feel welcome. All the tactical talk at half time went out the window when Billy decided he needed a rest and Andy went out in sympathy. Patrick hogged the ball to end up with two goals, but it wasn't enough to come away with a win.

Mens O50 Division 3 vs John XXIII (Won 1 - 0) 2016-05-28 Best: T. Patton, D. Stonehouse, J. Christie Goals: D. Stonehouse Probably the toughest game of the season so far. John XX111 put us under lots of pressure in the first half. Great goal by Dean was the only score in the match. We had to dig deep to defend but great all round team effort saw us hang on for a win

Mens O50 Division 3 vs Lions (Won 1 - 0) 2016-06-11 Best: C. Avent/T. Patton, J. Delaney/D. Stonehouse, J. Christie Goals: A. Wood Really tough game. Had a few chances in the first half but could not score. Andy Wood with 10 minutes to go did the job and then it was up to the rest of the team to hang on which we did. Good result

Mens O50 Division 3 vs Hale (Drew 1 - 1) 2016-06-18 Best: C. Avent, D. Stonehouse, T. Patton Goals: D. Stonehouse Tough game against Hale. 1-0 up for much of the game but a conversion from a short corner levelled the score. Many Thanks to Paul for filling in and good to see Rob Knyn having a run

Mens O60 Division vs Wasps (Won 3 - 2) 2016-05-28 Best: F. Williams, G. Bowater, G. Riley Goals: S. McEntee (2), G. Bowater We played at Richardson and Wasps used about 4 plyers from their top side as they were playing later. It was a pretty hard slog but we played well and despite being down 2-1 we kept coming and eventually one a close one. We seem to be able to run out the games better than even the stonger teams so we need to start a bit better and we will win a few more. A great team effort and we welcomed back Peter for the first time this season.

Mens O60 Division vs Victoria Park (Lost 1 - 2) 2016-06-11 Best: F. Williams, G. Riley, B. Porter Goals: D. Porter We met Vic Park at home and fifth versus sixth it was always going to be close. It was a dour struggle and Vic Park was able to break the deadlock early in the second half from a dubious short corner. As has been the experience this year we took control late in the game but could not get the equaliser.Geoff Riley played a great "Ryan Crowley" role in cutting out their main play maker in his new tagging role.

Mens O60 Division vs Kalamunda (Lost 0 - 1) 2016-06-20 Best: F. Williams, D. Porter, P. Hall Another hard fought loss, once again losing in the last few minutes of the game. The teams were evenly matched on a very grassy surface which caused a lot of problems for both teams. Our defence played very strongly and we certainly had our chances to score but could not breakthrough. We start the second round next week and looking forward to some wins going forward.

Boys 11/12A vs OGHC (Won 3 - 0) 2016-06-17 Best: H. Parkes, T. Dickson, H. Lock Goals: T. Dickson, A. Rayfield, T. Potter After a couple of disappointing results it was really pleasing to get a good win. The boys played a great style of hockey and dominated the first half but were unable to capitalise on the many chances. To the boys credit they stuck at it and scored 3 very nice goals to put the game to bed in the second half. Everyone had some good contributions to playing a passing and possession style of hockey that allowed us to control the game. Now to back it up next week and get another win. Well done boys.

Girls 11/12A vs North Coast Raiders (Drew 1 - 1) 2016-06-13 Best: M. Foss, T. Power, J. Snyman Goals: T. Power Well that's better! Best game of the year so far. The way we defended for 99% of the game was exceptional. Our ball use let us down in our front 3rd, leading to a number of failed goal scoring opportunities. We convert these opportunities and it takes us from a bottom of the ladder team to a finals contender. Keep up the good work girls!

Girls 11/12A vs Reds (Lost 0 - 5) 2016-06-20 Best: J. Snyman, J. Hood, M. Foss Control the controllable; make sure of the basics, work hard off the ball, and communicate positively. Hockey is a simple game and when we do these simple things, we're up there with the best teams in the league. Again, just lack the ability to do so for 70 minutes of hockey. Thanks to Mal for coming down and providing your input throughout the game.

Boys 11/12A Reserve vs UWA (Lost 0 - 2) 2016-05-27 Best: B. Delaney, C. Deaville, Z. McKinnon Good effort to hold UWA at bay until the second half, Gav Scally was impressed with players who played different roles on the night and did very well.

Boys 11/12A Reserve vs AW Red (Lost 2 - 9) 2016-06-10 Best: C. Surtees, C. Sinnott, E. Tang Goals: A. Lukan, T. Metelerkamp No report

Boys 11/12A Reserve vs Peel Rebels (Lost 0 - 10) 2016-06-17 Best: R. Lawrence, B. Hood, T. Metelerkamp Well Peel certainly put the squeeze on us Friday night, they were just too good despite our team playing the best they have this year.

Boys 9/10A vs UWA (Drew 2 - 2) 2016-05-30 Best: M. Tate, D. Paino, J. Schonken Goals: J. Scanlon, W. Stewart The boys managed to keep their undefeated record in tact but had one of our toughest games in what was a top of the table clash. It was an even game with both teams having a few chances to get on top. With a number of boys arriving late from state training made it difficult for us to get into our playing style. There were some excellent performances from some of the boys who had been quiet for a couple of weeks which was pleasing to see. We need to keep working on our ball movement and passing and next time we play uwa we should be able to come away with the win.

Boys 9/10A vs YMCC (Drew 2 - 2) 2016-06-13 Best: D. Forbes, D. Paino, M. Tate Goals: D. Forbes, J. Scanlon A tough and close game with a draw as the outcome. The boys played well and went into half time with a one to nil lead. Thanks to Tim Geers for coaching as Matt Willis was away.

Boys 9/10A vs Hale (Won 11 - 1) 2016-06-20 Goals: J. Schonken (5), J. Scanlon (2), R. Bright, B. Dowie, D. Forbes, W. Stewart A great win for the boys over Hale. A much improved performance on the last few weeks. With a big emphasis on ball movement and passing during the week it was pleasing to see the boys put this into action. As always it is good to see a wide spread of goal scorers. Well done boys, let's keep this momentum up going into the second half of the season.

Girls 9/10A vs NC Raiders (Won 6 - 0) 2016-05-29 Best: N. Flynn, J. Vanderzwan, S. Hasselerharm Goals: N. Flynn (5), A. Drane Another win under the belt, and seeing signs of improvement. We started to structure better defensively and set up a number of solid attacking plays. We just need a few little tweaks now; basics, accountability for roles and a few decision making things. Achieve that and we'll be right for sure next time.

Girls 9/10A vs CT Pirates (Lost 0 - 1) 2016-06-12 Best: N. Flynn, S. Hasselerharm, E. Cocks A very average game by a team that was still playing "relaxed" hockey. We failed to adapt to the tempo required for A grade hockey after a weekend off in Bunbury. The umpiring may have been of average quality, but we didn't want it enough at the end of the day. We'll have a refresher in the coming week on our brand of hockey.

Girls 9/10A vs YMCC (Won 4 - 1) 2016-06-20 Best: J. Vanderzwan, N. Flynn, E. Cocks Goals: K. O'Sullivan (2), A. Drane, N. Flynn Better performance this week. Played more our style of hockey. Moved the ball well using the space, just lacked a bit of intensity defensively. Back on track, but need to continue to progress.

Boys 9/10A Reserve vs Hale (Drew 2 - 2) 2016-05-29 Best: B. Tan, B. Deacon, B. Hood Goals: J. Needham, J. Lawrence Great game from the boys. Awesome efforts from everyone all game and unlucky not to get win. Fantastic to see the development of our team coming along and will be exciting to see the next few weeks going in with a lot of confidence.

Boys 9/10A Reserve vs UWA (Lost 0 - 1) 2016-06-12 Best: J. Needham, B. Abbott, b. Cole We played an awesome game against UWA all the way to the end. We were unlucky to not come away with the win but we take nothing away from the outstanding performance of the boys.

Looking forward to next week and coming out hard for the rest of the season!

Boys 9/10A Reserve vs YMCC (Lost 0 - 2) 2016-06-19 Best: D. Parkes, B. Tan, B. Abbott Got off to a slow start but lifted in the second half and really challenged the opposition. We kept fighting until the final whistle and the team showed a lot of heart which was great to see.

Girls 9/10A Reserve vs NC Raiders (Lost 1 - 2) 2016-05-29 Best: Z. Polglase, C. Bentley, E. Rolls Goals: D. Jolliffe Melville toiled hard all day and jumped the Raiders early. Polglase King and Bentley were solid in defence and John and Rolls worked hard as strikers. Thompson ran hard all day and worked hard in defence. A good effort by all.

!24

Girls 9/10A Reserve vs UWA Blue (Lost 1 - 2) 2016-06-12 Best: A. Baskerville, C. Bentley, A. Haigh Goals: L. Mellor Great effort by the Team today but after dominating possession in the first half, were not able to capitalise on all the good work. Baskerville ran hard all day while Bentley and King were dour in defense. Mellor & Haigh worked Hard and Zoie Arthur had a great game in goals.

Girls 9/10A Reserve vs Wolves Red (Lost 0 - 4) 2016-06-19 Best: E. Rayfield, L. Mellor, E. Rolls Great effort by the girls against the top team. The team held up well in defence all day lead by Rayfield, Polglase King and Bentley. Rolls & Mellor worked hard throughout the midfield and forwardand Baskerville was dangerous. Well done by the team, they just need a little luck to fall their way and they will win another.

Boys 9/10B (Black) vs UWA (Won 6 - 1) 2016-05-29 Best: G. Hyde, T. Foo, T. Kelly Goals: T. Foo (2), A. Lukan (2), R. Needham (2) Although another comfortable win, this was not one of our better performances. A lack of intensity resulted in a very scrappy game, and allowed the opposition possession of the ball for long periods of time. A stronger opposition would have punished us.

Boys 9/10B (Black) vs YMCC (Won 7 - 0) 2016-06-12 Best: T. Kelly, G. Hyde, R. Needham Goals: A. Lukan (2), R. Needham (2), M. Harrup, G. Hyde, T. Kelly The boys ventured to Lark Hill for our second turf game of the season. On a cold and very windy day, the boys took a little time to click into gear, but eventually got on top and 3 quick goals gave them a comfortable lead at half time. The second half was a different story, the boys switched on from the first whistle, totally dominating the half and adding a further 4 goals.

!25

Page 26: Saturday 25th June 2016 - melvillehockey.com

Boys 9/10B (Black) vs OGMHC (Drew 0 - 0) 2016-06-23 Best: B. Munnings, T. Alder, R. Needham It is difficult to find the words to describe just how poor this performance actually was! Our basic skills, hitting and trapping were non existent and we were outplayed by a team who simply wanted the ball much more than we did. Perhaps the boys had got a little ahead of themselves after three comfortable wins and needed this reality check. It clearly showed, that if we are to be serious contenders for the flag, we need to lift our game.

Boys 9/10B (Sand) vs Rockingham (Lost 2 - 6) 2016-05-29 Best: K. Vester, N. Thompson, B. Gillett Goals: L. Betham, J. Hart Melville got off to a great start, scoring in the first five minutes. Rockingham equalised soon after and it was locked on 1-1 for quite a while before Rockingham began to get on top. Some fast-break attacks saw Rockingham begin to score freely and break away. Melville lost some concentration in the 2nd half.

Boys 9/10B (Sand) vs Hale (Drew 3 - 3) 2016-06-12 Best: J. Hart, T. Walker, M. Ogden Goals: J. Hart (3) Melville White only had 10 players, but played their best match of the year and led 2-0 at half time! Fatigue set in during the second half and the boys let in 3 goals to fall behind. But they showed plenty of grit to keep attacking and scored a spectacular long range equaliser. Excellent effort.

Boys 9/10B (Sand) vs Joondalup Lakers (Won 5 - 1) 2016-06-19 Best: B. Gillett, K. Vester, M. Ogden Goals: K. Vester (2) Melville White C's progression continues, this time with a 5-1 win: the first win for the year. Despite a very strong start played in mostly their own half, Melville fell beyond 1-0 after 15 minutes. But from there onwards, it was all positive, starting with a cracking first goal:

!26

Page 27: Saturday 25th June 2016 - melvillehockey.com

an end-to-end move without the opposition touching it. 5 goals could easily have been more. Well done to all 14 who played!

Girls 9/10B (Sand) vs St Bridgids College (Lost 0 - 3) 2016-05-29 A great team effort against a very strong opposition. There was some excellent passing play but the opposition were really strong off short corner and this made all the difference. Well done to Cydney - you played really well as goalie making a number of important saves!

Girls 9/10B (Sand) vs Pirates (Drew 0 - 0) 2016-06-12 A great game from the girls they did everything but score! Shooting practice and short corners are top of the list for this week's training! Well done Phoebe for offering to be goalis - you made a really important save right at the end of the game!

Girls 9/10B (Sand) vs Westside Wolves (Lost 1 - 2) 2016-06-19 Goals: T. Godin A great effort by the girls with special mention of Mary's brilliant performance in goal. Mary kept us in the game with a number of good saves. You'd never have known it was her first stint as goalie! Well done girls - let's get back on a winning streak next Sunday!

Girls 7/8A vs Joondalup Lakers (Won 7 - 0) 2016-05-28 Goals: G. Needham (2), E. Billingham, C. Forbes, S. Hanavan, G. Farrow, L. Cocks It was a good performance from the girls after the long trek out of civilisation, with a dominant performance and good team play. With a 4-0 lead at half time, positions were all changed and strikers became fullbacks and full backs became strikers. To the girls credit they still managed to score several goals in the second half, to remain un-defeated at the top of the ladder.

Girls 7/8A vs YMCC (Won 1 - 0) 2016-06-12 Goals: C. Forbes After a long weekend in Bunbury, the girls were excited to be back playing in their usual positions. Playing on the home field at Morris

!27

Page 28: Saturday 25th June 2016 - melvillehockey.com

Buzacott, the girls took on YM and after going into half time at 0-0, they fought hard in the second, to score one "sloth" goal (according to some of them), to walk away with a 1-0 win and remain undefeated on top. The girls now need to keep working on staying positive as a team and not getting frustrated when things aren't going their way.

Girls 7/8A vs Lions (Lost 0 - 1) 2016-06-20 Another game at Morris Buzacott saw the girls take on Subs, who are second on the ladder. After an interesting warm up which saw Coco cop one to the side, the girls re-focused to start the game strong and firing. With several shots missing the goals or being saved off the line, we were unlucky not to put one in. The start of the second half seemed to be very similar to the first, with Subs having no shots on goal. After firing three or four shots on target, the Subs winger managed to take the ball and go down to put a goal in, to see us go 1-0 down. To the girls credit, they kept fighting to the very last whistle but unfortunately it was a defeat. It was a learning experience for the girls and now we need to keep growing as a team and individually.

Boys 7/8A Promotion vs Mods (Lost 1 - 2) 2016-05-29 Best: B. Hardy, D. Moulin, J. Birmingham Goals: D. Moulin This was a game that slipped through their fingers, Melville controlling most of the game but couldn’t manage to convert their opportunities. Mods hit the scoreboard twice during the initial stages where Melville were still waking up to the fact that it was Saturday morning and that they were playing a game of hockey. As the game progressed, so did Melville’s team play which at times was played exactly to coach Gav’s instruction and showed a lot of promise for upcoming games.

!28

Page 29: Saturday 25th June 2016 - melvillehockey.com

Boys 7/8A Promotion vs Wolves (Won 4 - 2) 2016-06-11 Best: T. Williamson, J. Birmingham, Z. Swinton Goals: B. Hardy, D. Harris, C. Steel, Z. Swinton Back on the winning track with a good win over Wolves, a revenge gave after a loss to the same team during last weekend’s Bunbury carnival. Melville let Wolves back into the game after leading 2-0 at half time with Wolves slotting home two goals in the second half to level the score 2-2. Melville showed their ability to dig deep when needed and controlled the game from this point onward, adding two more to the scoreboard. All four Melville goals were the result of solid team work in the D needed to navigate around the goalie and find the net.

Boys 7/8A Promotion vs Mazenod (Drew 1 - 1) 2016-06-19 Best: J. Birmingham, E. Elliott, B. Lawrence Goals: B. Harel This game is going down as a learning experience, one of those games where Melville controlled the game but did not convert their many chances in the D. A good goal by Ben Harel gave Melville a 1-0 lead for much of the game but Mazenod scored to level the game in last minute of the game via a controversial short corner. There were a lot of great passages of play where Melville demonstrated the things that coach Gav Buyers has been teaching them. This game the boys needed to lock down in the last few minutes to protect their lead … lesson learned. Next week the team is up against ladder leaders OGMC, play hard boys and you will do well!

Girls 7/8A Reserve vs Lions (Drew 1 - 1) 2016-05-28 Best: O. Patton, C. Evans, M. Irvine Goals: O. Patton Another strong performance by the girls who had the best of the possession and scoring chances. There were quite a few good chances to score, some good shots as well, which was great to see but unfortunately they just didn’t hit the target.

!29

Page 30: Saturday 25th June 2016 - melvillehockey.com

The team was stringing together some nice passages of play, some impressive balls in across the D but at times nobody there to connect. Melville went ahead in the first half with a nice goal. We were left short at the back a couple of times when the opposition ran the ball fast out of their defensive zone and the girls had to scramble back at pace to thwart the attack. Lions took advantage of one of these charges up the field and scored an equalizer. The Melville girls had a few opportunities towards the end but just couldn’t quite convert, the end result was a 1-1 draw. There are areas of the game that still need attention but it is obvious to see from the sideline that there is a strong team spirit and they are improving their game every week. Well done girls you should be proud!

Girls 7/8A Reserve vs UWA Green (Won 2 - 0) 2016-06-11 Best: C. Templeman, O. Patton, S. Pillay/S. Richards Goals: M. Chanter, M. Irvine After a lacklustre first half where it looked like all the girls had been at the same sleepover the night before, we kicked into gear in the seconds half. After much ‘encouragement’ to stay wide to receive the ball from our first class defence, Morgan produced some barnstorming runs down the right wing which got us into the D. Morgan slotted one into the top left hand corner for a potential goal of the year while the other was a rebound coolly put away in the corner by Milah who was in perfect position on the post. Great games from all the girls in particular our defence of Shaya, Caitlyn, Mikalea, Georgia, Celia and Mathilda. Sasha had her best game of the season and is becoming a real asset in being able to play multiple positions. Just remember girls, be disciplined and make sure you stay in position to back up all of the hard work the rest of your teammates are doing!

!30

Page 31: Saturday 25th June 2016 - melvillehockey.com

Girls 7/8A Reserve vs Wasps (Won 1 - 0) 2016-06-18 Best: M. Spires, G. Munnings, M. Irvine/C. Templeman Goals: M. Irvine Goal scoring practice this week girls! Our strikers must remember to get down and low to finish off the good work of our midfield. Once again our defence was outstanding, but I would imagine that we had 20 opportunities to score from crosses that we were unable to control or get a stick onto. However, sometimes it takes a moment of individual brilliance to break a deadlock and Morgan’s tomma from a very acute angle with 1.30 left on the clock was just brilliant.

Boys 7/8B (Gold) 2016-05-28 Best: M. Harler/N. Massie-Taylor, C. Gorton Goals: M. Harler (2), N. Massie-Taylor Melville was on the back foot early in the match being 1 goal down within the first 2 minutes. To their credit they fought back strongly to level then gain the lead. Kalamunda then scored to draw level but Melville surged again to be leading 3-2 by half time. The goals stopped in the second half and Melville held on with grim determination for a gusty win.

Boys 7/8B (Gold) vs WASPS (Won 1 - 0) 2016-06-11 Best: M. Harler, N. Massie-Taylor, C. Rynvis Goals: M. Harler A tight game saw Melville again come out on top, scoring early in the second half they held on for a solid victory.

Boys 7/8B (Gold) vs Kwinana (Won 4 - 2) 2016-06-18 Best: R. Stephenson, D. McGahren, K. Osterhage Goals: R. Stephenson (2), J. Hood, K. Osterhage Although Melville came away with a win loose defence saw Kwinana stay in the match when they should have been put away. A stronger effort against weaker sides is needed if Melville are going to be true contenders for this years championship.

Girls 7/8B (Black) vs Hale (Lost 0 - 1) 2016-06-11 Best: Z. Arthur, A. Grant, F. McHoull No report

Girls 7/8B (Sand) vs Rockingham (Lost 0 - 1) 2016-05-28 Best: A. Flexman, T. Blechynden, M. Lane-Rose Very tight game, Rockingham scored with only a few seconds left in the game. Girls played quite well.

Girls 7/8B (Sand) vs CT Pirates (Drew 1 - 1) 2016-06-12 Best: Y. Pereira, G. Lawrence, A. Willis Goals: A. Willis Girls showed great improvement against this team with 1-1 draw after initially losing to the 4-0 in the first week of competition.

Girls 7/8B (Sand) vs WASPS (Drew 0 - 0) 2016-06-18 Best: T. Blechynden, A. Flexman, L. Skipsey Very defensive game for the girls with both teams having really good opportunities to score but ultimately no one could find the back of the net.

Girls 5/6A vs Lions (Lost 0 - 5) 2016-05-21 Played a really strong team this week and we performed well under the pressure. Our team started to learn what is required to ”hold” their position off the ball under pressure. It was good to see improvement in the defensive short corners organised by our Captain/Goalie, Charlie. Importantly the weather allowed our game to go ahead and we didn’t get too wet!!

Girls 5/6A vs Vic Park (Lost 0 - 1) 2016-05-14 A Good effort from the girls all game and really improved game structure as the game progressed. It was great to see the girls respond to some of the defensive discussion at half time which translated to some shorts and shots on goals in the second half. Our Goalie/Captain for the week, Sophie, was a standout “keeping” it to only one, Jessica and Rebecca worked well “wide” down the

!32

Page 33: Saturday 25th June 2016 - melvillehockey.com

right in the second half while we had some solid work from Ruby and Ellie all game. We will work a little on our defensive positioning and shorts at training as we lost our way a little a few times. However, It was good seeing the girls learning the different positions that they are being given.

Girls 5/6A vs UWA (Drew 0 - 0) 2016-05-28 In contrasting weather to last week, the girls produced some really good hockey and generated several goal scoring opportunities. The defence worked well together working up and back as required. The midfield played some very good hockey catching the opposition off guard with some good auto play and our attack worked hard in offense and defence. I think collectively our tackling improved following some work on this area at training. It was a little disappointing to lose our structure on the defensive short corners. This is something we have talked about several times, is not hard to do, yet we seem lose our positions on the posts and get in front of the goalie. Luckily it didn’t cost us goal.

Girls 5/6A vs Westside Wolves (Lost 1 - 5) 2016-06-11 Goals: H. Carmody After a fantastic weekend at Bunbury for several of the players, the girls produced the best half of hockey they have played in the first half with several goal opportunities generated and the team putting away the first goal of the season. Wolves scored a goal after we got caught out of position but we had the better first half. Lets not talk about the second half too much but say it didn’t look like the score suggests.

Girls 5/6A vs WASPS (Drew 0 - 0) 2016-06-18 Again it’s great to see the improvement in the team hockey we are playing. After working at training on less of pushing the ball forward and more passing wide, that what we saw during the game. We also had an improved team structure with the wing halfbacks defending by marking their player and being available wide.

!33

Page 34: Saturday 25th June 2016 - melvillehockey.com

We had most of the play as a result but didn’t put away a couple of good chances, but WASP’s never really looked like scoring. Well done to Talia who had to change from Wing to Full back during the game and did it well and to Jess, Charlie, Abbey, Alex on our halfback line. We got stuck in the attaching 25m a few times. As such, we will work on that during the week so we can get the ball in the D and on goal a little more often.

Boys 5/6A Promotion vs Fremantle (Won 13 - 0) 2016-05-28 Goals: M. Horrocks (4), E. Cooper (2), O. Cooper (2), J. Dowie (2), D. Bradshaw, C. Quartermaine, T. Tan On a fine day, it was a fine 13-0 result, rewarding good position play by the whole team. The effort rate was maintained throughout. There were 7 different goal scorers. Mitchell slotted the ball past the goalie 4 times from left wing. The full backs and halves all contributed too. Our goalie Torin was called into action only once, and was often sighted during the game resting on the ground after a 'sleep over' the night before.

Boys 5/6A Promotion vs OGMHC (Won 7 - 0) 2016-06-12 Goals: C. Quartermaine (4), J. Dowie, K. Hobbs, B. King This team held its structure well. Up 3-0 at half time, they played better in the second half to win 7-0. A great team effort, with strong contributions by all players. The ball rarely reached the defensive 25. Special mention goes to Cosmo Quartermaine who scored 4 goals by positioning himself well on the goalie's pads.

Boys 5/6A Promotion vs AW Reds (Lost 1 - 3) 2016-06-18 Goals: K. Hobbs AW Reds performed well in the first half, scoring 3 goals. Melville was much improved after half time, scoring the only goal in the second half off a short corner.

!34

Page 35: Saturday 25th June 2016 - melvillehockey.com

Boys 5/6B (Black) vs Kalamunda (Lost 0 - 2) 2016-05-28 After coming off the high from the previous weeks win, the match proved to be challenging for the team. It provided a great opportunity in identifying areas for further developing the boys skills.

Boys 5/6B (Black) vs UWA (Green) (Drew 0 - 0) 2016-06-11 A good game by all. The boys are working together well and putting what they have learnt in training to good use. Carrick was an excellent stand in goalie. We were very unlucky in front of goal, with several missed opportunities, yet managed to prevent the oppositions turn at goal. Well done boys.

Boys 5/6B (Black) 2016-06-18 Goals: J. Harmsen (2), W. Bindon, A. Rolls A good game was played by all, resulting in the boys working well as a team. Excellent pressure in front of the goals. Good defence kept Vic Park to 0 goals. Well done boys.

Boys 5/6C (Gold) 2016-05-30 Goals: A. Harvey, Z. Kelly We travelled this week to play Kalamunda at Hartfield Park. From the first whistle the boys showed great determination and moved the ball forward into our attacking “D”, which resulted in a lot more short corners this week. Unfortunately, we didn’t convert on our short corners, although in the first half we had a beautiful field goal scored from a break away and caught the Kalamunda defence off guard. In the second half both teams lifted and both managed to score a goal. Our goal was another field goal which resulted from great persistence. The last five minutes of the game was exciting and the team responded to the pressure. Defenced stepped up and had great clearances. Well Done boys on a great win!

Boys 5/6C (Gold) vs Dale (Won 6 - 1) 2016-06-11 Goals: A. Harvey (3), J. Foss, Z. Kelly, R. Miller The team had another away game and travelled to play Dale. In the first half the boys really showed great improvement from previous

!35

Page 36: Saturday 25th June 2016 - melvillehockey.com

weeks and played together as a whole team. They passed the ball wide and communicated well, which resulted in 3 goals. In the first five minutes of the second half they were caught off guard and Dale scored a goal. The boys responded and went back to their game of attacking strong up front and holding positions, which resulted in another three goals. For some of the boys it was their first goal in hockey, so pretty exciting for them. It was great to see that the boys are playing better as a team and implementing what they are learning at training. A great win at 6-1, fantastic effort !

Boys 5/6C (Gold) vs Southern River (Lost 0 - 1) 2016-06-18 We travelled again this week and played at Southern River. The game was quite a contrast to last week as both teams contested the ball well and there was a lot more pressure. The structure in the first half held well and the boys played some great passages of play. There was no score in the first half. In the second half we lost a bit of structure, although we did have opportunities to score, but unfortunately we couldn’t convert. The other team did score in the last two minutes on a short corner due to some confusion in the D. Although we went down 1 nil, the boys played great as a whole team. Well Done Boys!

Girls 5/6C vs Wasps Green (Drew 1 - 1) 2016-05-28 Best: B. McKenzie, C. Davies, H. Patton Goals: Y. Rigg This week the girls changed their positions around a bit from previous weeks. Our girls stepped up the challenge and gave it their all and had a solid game in less familiar positions. Our defenders did a very good job of keeping the score at 1-1. They had good learning opportunities about clearing the ball wide on 16 yard hits and not hitting across the face of our defensive goal. Stephanie Potma did a fantastic job at her first time as GK, with a couple of good saves and positioning herself well within the goals by reading the play. The halfback line did a great job supporting in defence while also feeding the ball through to our forward line. A solid job by the forward line was rewarded by 1 goal and were unlucky not to score a second. Caitlin Davies did some awesome runs on the wing with some

!36

Page 37: Saturday 25th June 2016 - melvillehockey.com

excellent stick skills and positioning herself well. Yvie Rigg showed us that perseverance and determination pays off by scoring our goal this week. Ashleigh Farrell did some great trapping of the ball and feeding forward to our team. Great team effort in our attacking D with lots of desperation to get goals. As usual, the girls work rate was high and put in 100% during the game.

Girls 5/6C vs Rockingham (Won 3 - 0) 2016-06-11 Best: A. Spurling, B. McKenzie, S. Sherriffs Goals: S. Huston, H. Patton, S. Potma Some great team work on the field and good determination from the girls in the D's. Some missed opportunities to score with some inaccurate attempts on goals. Goals scored by Hannah, Steph and Scarlett this week. Lovely defending and in particular by - Brooke, Ava and Sophie. Our angled passes in the second half opened up play showing the girls listened to the advice they got given at half time.
