Perfunctory
• Definition: (adj) automatic, unthinking • As I sat down with my nephew, John on the
couch, while watching television, he had made a perfunctory look on his face that showed he was hating the channel we were watching and became bored.
Meticulous
• Definition: (adj) taking or showing extreme care about minute details
• To get the scratch off of John’s care, he leaned in closer to the front of the car, while trying to scrub it off with soap and meticulously, showing great affection to his prize possession.
Lament
• Definition: (v) to express grief for or about or to regret deeply
• In order to catch the government’s eye, Filipino women had protested to the nation that they were being treated unfairly, which brought lament despair to their lives.
Paraphernalia
• Definition: (n) furnishing used in or necessary for a particular activity
• To play soccer, you must search for soccor paraphernalia that includes a soccer ball, cleats, pads, and socks.
Despotic
• Definition: (adj) dictorial • World War Two was ruled by a despotic
leader named, Hitler who treated Jews unfairly for about eight years.
Tangible
• Definiton: (adj) real, concrete• When I turned sixteen years old, I was ecstatic
that I could make my own decision, but life didn’t seem tangible to me yet.
Sensuous
• Definition: ratifying to senses • When I turned twenty-one years old, I had
experienced my first hangover that made my head fill with a sensuous drowinsiness and headache that would go away.
Prima Donna
• Definiton: (adj) indicating the most important performer or role
• My family believes that I am the prima donna of the family because of my motivation to have everything neat and perfect.
Garrulous
• Definition: (adj) talkative, wordy• Adam, who was the typical teachers’ pet,
became garrulous with his responses to a question, which became annoying and irrupting to his class.
Syntax
• Definition: (n) the way in which words are arranged
• The syntax of the brother’s speech is so abhorrent that you would believe he was Twitchy for the animated film, Hoodwinked.
Sagacity
• Definition: (n) wisdom• When I received my acceptance letter from
Georgetown, the letter explained that they loved my personality, but my sagacity shown through my education was awful; I was declined!
Ravenous
• Definition: (adj) extremely hungry or famish• If I don’t eat lunch at approximately two
o’clock in the afternoon, I become ravenous with an irate attitude that is horrible.
Parsimonious
• Definition: (adj) frugal or stingy• Many of my friends believe that I am
parsimonious about my food, but I just laugh at myself from the truth.
Virulent
• Definiton: (adj) highly deadly • Hades, the Greek god of death, believed in
casting those who were virluent to the Underworld.
