Thank you to those who have helped make VISUALS events a big success this summer:

EAT Communications, Squamish Arts Council, District of Squamish, Squamish Sustainability Corporation, Wild at Art, Century Signs,Squamish Chamber of Commerce, Gelato Carina, goodwinstudios.com,

Business Improvement Association, Raiser’s Edge Copywriting, In Biz Print & Business Centre, Home Depot, Global Inkstorm.

Businesses and community organizations which have helped publicize our events and VISUALS Members who’ve donated prizes, contributed their time and shown their works

Linda Wagner, AFCA, is an accomplished oil painter and while many residents in Squamish may not yet know Linda, her work is well known in the Vancouver area where she painted for 25 years. Linda moved to Squamish in 2004 and joined VISUALS. She is a long time member of the Federation of Canadian Artists and has held many solo and group exhibits. To learn more about Linda, visit www.squamishart.com or meet her on the studio tour, Venue 15.

In times of high gas prices and economic uncertainty, there is the natural inclination to nest and shop local. We’ll spend less money on spa treatments and vacations. Instead, we’ll invest in our everyday space. A well chosen piece of art can brighten and renew a room without expensive renovations or furnishings.

How do you know what to buy? Buying art is actually very easy. Buy what you can afford AND love. Let your heart and eyes lead you. Visit studios and galleries to see the many different forms of art. Prices can range from a few dollars for a handpainted card to millions

of dollars for museum quality pieces. Whatever your taste, whatever your pocketbook, if you love art, you can afford to buy art. Buy the best you can afford. Afterall, what you collect is a statement about who you are. Whenever possible, meet the artist. Learn the source of his or her inspiration, and you’ll have learned a lot about that artist. Check out the artist’s website if there is one, and get added to his or her invitation/mailing list for future shows and studio tours. This weekend’s open studio and gallery tour is a perfect opportunity to meet artists, view their works and purchase original art.

Sea to Sky Community Services will share in VISUALS’ annual fundraiser draw

Each year, VISUALS, the Squamish Valley Artists Society, holds an annual fundraiser and selects a worthy cause to share in the proceeds. This year, the Sea to Sky Community Services Society (SSCSS) was selected by VISUALS Members. SSCSS is a non-profit agency which has served the communities of Squamish, Whistler and Pemberton since 1978. The society provides support and resources for nearly 4,000 members in the corridor each year, including infants, children, youth, women, families, individuals with developmental disabilities, people dealing with income and housing security issues, those requiring drug and alcohol counselling, and those in search of supported employment assistance. Programs include Early Child Development Services, Outreach Services and Community Living Services. At the main office on Second Avenue and Pemberton, participants from the SSCSS Art programs invite you to come explore their artistic expressions and enjoy a refreshment before you continue on your tour. See you at Venue 8!

Wanda Doyle, VISUALS President and Michael Kanka, ArtWalk Graphics,

put the finishing touches on the Guide and Map.
