Principal’s Pitch It’s hard to believe we only have three weeks left of this term. WORKING BEE So much was achieved at the working bee! We have new blinds in the library, crushed rock that is being cemented in by the rain in the courtyard, and new plants with protection installed around them on the oval embankment to name some works that were achieved. Thank you to Theresa for once again coordinating and implementing these works and for all the dedicated workers that turned out on the day. 1000 BOOK CHALLENGE We have achieved our goal! Thanks to generous donations from families, the 2016 Trivia Night proceeds and the Halloween on the Green we have catalogued over a 1000 books for our library since June 2016. We will still a few more non-fiction books to purchase in 2018. If anyone can help to cover some books at school or at home we would really appreciate the help. Thank you to everyone for your support! IMPORTANT DATES UPDATE Our Scienceworks Excursion is on Tuesday, 5 December. On 11 December our school we will be relocating to Boronia West Primary School for the day as part of an Emergency Management practice. We are asking parents to take and pick up their children from Boronia West in Tormore Rd, Boronia. There is a gate at the pool end of the school that is next to their multi-purpose room where we will assemble and where the students can be picked up from. Sassy Kids Club will operate from Boronia West that afternoon. A notice will be sent home soon. We will be having a transition day at school on Tuesday, 12 December where all of our students will be in their 2018 classes for the day. Next year we will be having F/1, 2/3/4 and 4/5/6 classes. Last lunch orders will be on Wednesday, 13 December. On Wednesday, 13 December we will be having a Helpers Afternoon tea from 2:00- 2:30pm. Class NotesGrade 2, 3 & 4.Hi everyone!

It’s been busy busy for the teachers with the last lot of assessment for the year and reports in full swing. Apart from that we have the exciting Science Works excursion that should be tons of fun!

This is the last news letter for the year so I would like to inform everyone that I am moving on from Sassafras PS as I have accepted a full time teaching role at Rowville Primary School. It will be sad to leave as Sassafras is an amazing school with staff that greatly care for all the students and families. Thank you to everyone who supported me throughout the year, it’s great to feel like part of a community! I’m sure whoever takes on my role will be supported in just the same way. I’ll miss all the students of Sassafras as they are an intelligent and creative bunch who are a pleasure to work with.

Good luck to everyone in 2018 and let’s make the last few weeks of 2017 a fun and enjoyable time!

Regards,

Mr. T

Grade 5&6 Hello Everyone,

It’s hard to believe that we’re already at this point of the year. The Grade 6’s go to Fun Fields on Friday the 15th to enjoy heaps of great rides and then it’s just a few days until Graduation Night! As the year comes to a close, the Grade 5’s also start work on the design for their Grade 6 Jackets and find out the important info – who is going to be their Prep buddy next year!

In the coming weeks we will be tying up all the loose ends – completing our PowerPoints, finishing our Buddy Books, enjoying our Literature Circles and having some fun with numbers.

The homework for the week is to get enough sleep each night and remember that we still have 3 weeks of school left. Please continue to bring in your reading diaries and coming to school with a positive attitude!

Pupils of the week for this week are all the Grade 6’s for their fantastic work this year. It’s been a pleasure to watch them all become the leaders of the school in their own ways. From sausage sizzles and cake stalls to lunch-time clubs and captains jobs, they’ve all put their stamp on this school and will be remembered fondly. Keep up the great effort!

Matt Stamm

Prep, Grade 1 & 2Hello All,

We are all looking forward to the great activities we have planned over the last few weeks of school. As we creep closer to the end of the school year, I would like to say a very big thank you to all of the wonderful parents who have helped out in the school this year. To those who have helped in the classroom and around the school it has been much appreciated.

We had a wonderful time at Scienceworks on Tuesday it was great to have so many helpers.

Please make sure we get enough sleep over the last two weeks as it’s easy for time to slip by at night and it is noticeable with everyone’s ability to cope with the next day’s activities.

Students of the week

These students have all year shown they follow Sassafras Primary Schools core values:

Respect – Luc and Millie

Persistence Ollie Y and Aliya

Integrity – Archie and Kyra

Responsibility – Stella and Timmy

Thanks

Stacey Goodger

GRADE 6 CAKE STALLOn Thursday 14 December, the Grade 6’s will be holding their final cake stall of the year. Cakes will be sold at lunchtime for $1-$3. Any cakes remaining can be purchased after school to take home and share with the family. Thanks for supporting the Grade 6 Graduation Fund.
