Regional Park Designations ..What is a Regional Park? ......Symbol Key .............................Park Listings Start ....................Summer Events Calendar ........Things to See and Do ............Park Locations/Map .............. Park ‘N Play.............................Photo Contest.........................

Each Regional Park is operated by a volunteer board. This board forms an “Authority” and enacts the bylaws and policies needed to operate their particular park. This also means that they are entirely responsible for every operational aspect of the park’s health, safety, cleanliness and maintenance. As a group, Regional Park Authorities have established a minimum standard for facilities and maintenance in each regional park. The Park Authorities are committed to ensuring that their park meets these standards.

When a Regional Park has provided the requested documentation and met the required standards to display the Accreditation Symbol, that Regional Park Authority is stating that they are meeting or exceeding the requirements of the Association, Health Region and are complying with all other regulatory bodies’ rules and regulations. This symbol means that the park will have, at the very least, the basic camping facilities available at their park for their patrons and that those facilities will be maintained to an acceptable standard with your safety and comfort in mind.

To assist you while choosing a park

to fit you and your family’s needs, we have assigned a

designation category to each park. There

are five different categories listed with their descriptions to give you a better idea of how each park may fit your needs, based on their services and

amenities.

1. FAMILY RECREATION offer a well-rounded family experience. Amenities or locations will vary, but the choice remains with the patron on the level of the activities and the location.

2. UNIQUE NATURAL SETTING usually small parks with low density camping and are located in areas that offer a look at nature for patrons looking for that experience.

3. GOLF WITH CAMPING these parks are predominately golf course orientated, but have a campground facility.

4. TRAVELER/LOCAL RECREATIONare mainly located on a well travelled highway system in a smaller municipal setting and are predominantly used by the local residents for recreation, family gatherings, ball tournaments and group activities. These parks generally have open campsites during the week that would fit perfectly with the travelers.

5. LOCAL USE ONLYThese parks tend to be used only by the local people for certain types of recreation or for family gatherings.

The Regional Park system is unique to Saskatchewan. These parks were developed by the volunteers surrounding the park’s location.

Today, there are regional parks across the province – some next to a village or town, some in the furthest reaches of rural areas and many are located in the forested areas waiting for you to choose your summer home.

Each regional park is a different size and offers differing choices of activities for you and your family. Amenities include camping, swimming, boating, fishing, sports grounds, golf courses, all levels of food services and a whole lot more. Choose your regional park with what you need to make your stay enjoyable.

One regional park is open year round offering a ski hill for the winter months and camping and fishing in the summer.

How are Regional Parks Funded and Supported?

- Some receive a bit of funding assistance from their nearby towns, village and rural municipalities

- Some receive donations in order to complete special projects like new playgrounds

- Some qualify for grants offered for the construction of capital projects

- Most of their funding is raised when you come to visit!! The Regional Park Season Pass gains you entry into all of the regional parks and the funds from the sale of these passes stay right at the regional park where they were purchased. Your visit and the dollars that you spend at these parks keep them operating for everyone to enjoy for years to come.

Park on The Move - Suffern Lake Regional Park

Suffern Lake Regional Park Authority - Suffern Section is a small park located 41 km. northeast of Macklin or 28 km. south of Marsden.Located in the environmentally sensitive sand hills in the middle of nowhere (as some people say), we have managed to keep operating as a regional park since 1967 when we got started as a Centennial project. Our lake is stocked with trout every spring and the fish love to tease the anglers out on the lake enjoying the quiet water as the fish jump just beyond their hooks. We have a nine hole artificial green golf course. It must be too challenging for Tiger Woods as I have not seen him out there yet. The hall or clubhouse has a large covered deck that is looking over 9 courts for the game of Bunnock or Bones, a fun game for young and old alike. A large playground with modern equipment is just waiting for your children or grandkids to enjoy while

you lay on the beach in the sun, or sit in the shade under the gazebo that was built last year. Modern washrooms and showers and kitchen facilities joining the hall make it an ideal place for several weddings and family reunions every year. A tent is also available if extra space is required for family functions.Either way you will enjoy the quiet atmosphere and silence of the park, until it is broken by the call of a loon letting the world know that the fish are great at Suffern Lake. They even startle the local deer that you may see wandering through the park. We have a dedicated board and great employees that work together for the betterment of the park. We know that we will always be a small park but that doesn’t mean we can’t all work together to be the best little park in the west. Come and see for yourself.
