Objectives were: Gather input from Senior Educational Leaders on how they envision the role of
technology in Personalized Learning Better understand the technology landscape across the province Determine how provincial strategies should be prioritized to more effectively support
Individualized Learning Pathways Identify common areas districts are attempting to address through technology
implementation Facilitate cooperative efforts that can help achieve their goals, and implement more
cost effective and sustainable technology services

Process: All 60 BC School Districts were asked to
complete extensive on-line surveys directedto users groups
All 60 BC School Districts participated in fielddata discovery – either face to face or via teleconference administered by IBM EducationalConsultants

GRASS ROOTS METHODOLOGY
The IBM Project Team:Each team was comprised of: Two (2) IBM Senior Educational Consultants – Professional Educators K-12 IT Architects – Experts in the Canadian K-12 Industry Managed centrally by a Professional Project Manager Supported by IBM K-12 Education administrators
Action Items:Administration of Province wide Survey Tool to different stakeholder groups:

Conducted Field Research & Data Collection: Field Research Interviews lead by IBM Team in all 60 BC School Districts

Districts reported 76% to 100% wirelesscoverage but capacity was a challenge

Districts identified the overwhelming importance of PLNet in supporting thesepriorities and that the Ministry was in a unique position to asses and support as a key
partner in working to implement strategies and directions with the top 9 priorities

The K-12 Next Generation Network
• NGN has been designed to ensure the Ministry of Education and BC School Districts
have the underlying technology, connectivity and services to deliver efficient andeffective delivery of personalized learning
• Designed to address the current, emerging and growing demands of the Educationsector
• Designed to encourage internal standards to optimize end user experience
• Over the next 3 years 1600 Schools will be converted over to the new network – duefor completion March 2017
• District by district conversions will take place as readiness states are achieved andscheduled accordingly
