In April 2011 we polled employees and asked them

about the e-book reading devices they use. Nearly

half of those who responded to the poll told us that

they didn’t use an e-book reader. I wonder how

those numbers have changed. I’m a Nook user

myself, and I know that I am seeing many more

e-book readers in people’s hands than I did just

a few months ago. I believe there are two factors

at work in that change. One, the technology is

constantly improving, making it easier and more

appealing to use these devices. And two, more and

more material is available electronically.

At SAS, we are thrilled to be part of that movement.

Our documentation has been available online for

years now; that’s the most popular way for people

to access our documentation. And, books from

SAS Press are following closely behind. Now, we

have an extensive library of books available to view

on a number of different e-book reading devices,

and you, our customers, are taking full advantage

of all the options we offer.

I am very interested in watching how this

market trend develops. I promise you that

SAS will always be committed to bringing

you the resources you need delivered in the

formats you prefer.

Business intelligence (BI) software provides an interface for multiple audiences to dissect, discover, and determine what the data means. These reporting tools make dynamic information available to all users, giving them the ability to manipulate results and further understand the business. There is significant power and value in reducing the data gatekeeper role in your organization so that each person can quickly interact with data and uncover significant value. SAS offers a BI solution that offers mechanisms to

reach every level of the organization. Each toolkit within this product provides a different amount of complexity and functionality to aid a broad deployment. This book clarifies how each SAS BI solution component can be fully utilized to ensure a successful implementation.

Focusing on the SAS BI client, the authors provide a quick-start guide loaded with examples and tips that will help users move quickly from using only one SAS BI client tool to using a significant portion of the system. So if you are a SAS BI or SAS® Enterprise BI user and aren’t yet using all the components of the solution, this book is the resource that you need. In addition, the tips and techniques provided in this book will prove invaluable for advanced SAS BI and SAS Enterprise BI users who are studying for the SAS Certified BI Content Developer for SAS®9 credential.

Analytics offers many capabilities and options to measure and improve data quality, and SAS is perfectly suited to these tasks. The first two sections of the book cover data quality topics that are relevant for analytics, including criteria for data quality for analytics and detection of data quality issues for analytics. The last section highlights the fact that data quality can richly benefit from analytics, showing you how you can improve your data quality.

The book focuses on the following topics: usability and availability of data for analysis; selecting the right data sources; why analytical methods need historic data and—most important—historic snapshots of data; ensuring sufficient data quantity in terms of number of observations, number of event cases, and length of data history; typical analyses such as data mining analyses, time series forecasting, and statistical analysis; data relevancy with respect to the definition of the data and the requirements of the analysis; and much more.
