    Sarvatobhadra

Sarvatobhadra chakra (Sbc) is a technique for Nakshatra based prediction in Vedic astrology.

Nakshatra based techniques prove to be very fruitful e.g. in Vimsottari or Kalachakra Dasa and in

    KP system.

Sbc is a good additional tool for chart reading and Dasa prediction. It givesvaluable information about the birth chart and its Nakshatra based positive andnegative features. Moreover it gives a key for Gochara (transit) predictions andcan thus be used as valuable addition for timing of events.

The Sarvatobhadra technique is supposed to be very old. The fact that Abhijit(the 28th Nakshatra ) plays a role in this technique is a hint that it comes fromancient times. There are only spare references of Sbc in classical scriptures, e.g. a small

chapter in Mantreswars's Phala Deepika. Most of the illustrious scriptures (likeHora Shastra, Jataka Parijata, Saravali or Brihat Jataka) do not mention thistechnique at all.Subsections of this page are

    Sarvatobhadra - Basics

Sbc uses a zodiac of 28 Nakshatras. This is a significant difference to other Nakshatra based chakras. Most of theseclassical chakras depend on a zodiac of 27 Nakshatras, so they are trigonalbecause the number 27 has only the divisors 3 and 9.So the presence of Abhijit plays a key role and gives rise to a rectangular

    Nakshatra chart composed of 4 * 7 = 28 basic fields.

Placement of NakshatrasSarvatobhadra Chakra is drawn in a rectangle of 9 * 9 = 81 fields. The Nakshatras belong to upper

and lower row, resp. the left and right column. The corners and the 7 * 7 sections in the center of thechakra are not occupied so far.The counting is clockwise. Aswini is the 6th Nakshatra in the upper row. Theother Nakshatras (including Abhijit) follow in regular manner.

The CornersThere are 4 corners in Sbc. They have special

significance. It is written that the Nakshatra Padas in neighborhood to the corners are criticalpoints and must be regarded in a special manner. The following table gives the zodiacal positions of the corners and theircorresponding neighbourhood Padas.

The Role of AbhijitAbhijit is the 28th star and is located between Uttarashadha and Sravana. There are two main opinions about the usage of Abhijit.

First opinion tries to eliminate this star. People of this group do not place any planet into this

    Nakshatra.

Second opinion places several degrees of Uttarashadha and Sravana into Abhijit. So the last quarterof Uttarashadha and the first 15th part of Sravana are regarded as belonging to Abhijit.

    Sarvatobhadra - Completing the Chakra

PLANETSAND WEEKDAYSThe 7 planets are written into the center of the chakra: Saturn in the very center, the other planets on

his left (Jupiter), right (Sun/Mars), top (Venus) and bottom (Moon, Mercury). These squares arealso assigned to the 7 weekdays. The weekdays correspond to the native's birthday. The sign of Lagna is anotherpoint of importance, e.g. for the health of the native.

RASISThe 12 Rasis are placed around the planets (see chakra).

LETTERSThe Sanskrit letters are placed in the empty squares (see chakra). The letters correspond to the name of the native or the subject of the query. The picture below shows the complete Sbc.

    Sarvatobhadra - Vedhas

Vedhas establish relationships between Nakshatras resp. points of the zodiac.Vedhas can be compared with aspects. There are different types of aspects inclassical Vedic Astrology: aspects between Rasis (like Graha and Rasi Drishti)and aspects between points of the zodiac (like Sputa Drishti).

    Vedhas of Nakshatras

    Each Nakshatra has three Vedhas.

Forward: this Vedha appears if we travers Sbc in diagonal manner until we reach the next Nakshatraat the border of the chakra. Forward motion means that we have to go in positive (i.e. clockwise)

    direction.

Opposite: this is the Nakshatra we reach if we traverse the chakra horizontally (for Nakshatras onthe left and right) or vertically (for Nakshatras on the top and bottom).

Backward: like forward Vedha, but in negative (i.e. counter clockwise) direction.

Forward direction means movement in the sense of a planet in direct motion. Backward direction is

the movement of a retrograde planet, the opposite corresponds to a stationary planet.

    EXAMPLES

Aswini has forward vedha to Rohini, opposite Vedha to Purvaphalguni and backward Vedha to

    Jyestha.

Swati has forward vedha to Jyeshta, opposite Vedha to Sathabish and backward Vedha to Rohini.

Purvashadha has forward Vedha to Uttarabhadra, opposite Vedha to Aridra and backward Vedha to

    Hastha.

Krittika has forward Vedha to Visakha, opposite Vedha to Sravana and backward Vedha to Bharani.

Vedhas of Individual Points in the ZodiacVedhas of Nakshatras are only one way of interpretation. The argument of Vedhas can also be

applied to individual points of the zodiac. Each individual point of the zodiac has three Vedas. The vedha point is reachedif we make a proportional consideration (rule of three) regarding the length of aplanet. E.g. The second degree of Aswini has its opposite point in the seconddegree of Purvaphalguni (counted from the end): 24 Leo.Regions of the zodiac can be calulated in a simplar manner, i.e. by taking thestart and end point of the region.

    EXAMPLES

The exaltation point of the Sun (10:00 Aries) has opposite Vedha with 16:40 Leo.

The debilation point of the Sun (10:00 Libra) has opposite Vedha with 16:40 Aquarius.

The moolatrikona of the Sun (0-20 Leo) has opposite Vedha with 6:40 - 26:40 Aries.

The exaltation point of Jupiter (3 Cancer) has opposite Vedha with 0 Sagittarius.

The debilation point of Jupiter (3 Capricorn) has opposite Vedha with 30 Taurus, etc.
