Airbus’ support to SARI

Q 2007 : after the end of the EU-SA and EU-India cooperation programmes, Airbus and EASA launched the Bridging Aviation Project (BAP) to ensure the continuity of the regulatory activities, with specific objectives :

"  sustain the momentum of the newly created SARI between Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka

"  Provide regulatory guidance from EASA

"  Provide technical expertise from European Industry

Q Recognized benefits of SARI Regulatory Convergence "  Operational Safety enhancement in the region

"  CAAs : enhance safety oversight capacities with efficient use of resources

"   ICAO compliance. SARI activities are coordinated with COSCAP-SA

"  Develop closer links between SA Civil Aviation Authorities

"  Facilitation of business exchanges for the industry

"  Economic efficiencies for the aviation community

"  Establish a stronger regional voice for South Asia

"  Develop a partnership approach between CAA and Industry, for mutual benefits. Build on the partnership experience between EASA and European Industry

Q SARI projects are results oriented : "  Well identified micro-projects, for clear and concrete achievements

"  Precise TOR (Terms of Reference) for each Working Group

"  Regulatory activities performed through technical workshops with experienced personnel and senior managers from South Asian CAAs and Industry

"  Exchange on specific issues faced in the implementation of new regulations

"  Objective towards harmonized working procedures and rules interpretation

"  Technical guidance, expertise and coordination provided by European partners (EASA, Airbus) with a pragmatic and realistic approach, for both regulation drafting and implementation

Q Airbus and EASA support technically and financially the SARI projects "  SARI is a light structure controlled by the CAAs at DG level and assisted

by a SARI coordinator

"  Annual SARI Steering Committee Meeting. SARI decisions taken at Directors General level

"  SA Industry representatives in SARI ensures that SARI decisions are in line with the industry views

"  Airbus (Jean-Yves Causse) is in close contact with EASA (Wendell Lynch) and the SARI coordinator (Eric Dormoy) for coordinating the European support.

"  Airbus financial support to SARI since 2007 till now : 500,000 Euros.
