SPARC: Social and Public Art Resource CenterVenice Beach, California

Mission:

SPARC is a cultural center that creates public art as a vehicle to promote civic dialogue, foster cross-cultural understanding, and address critical social issues. SPARC produces, preserves, and teaches methods to create community-based, public art. The intention is to examine what we choose to memorize through public art, and to devise and produce excellent artworks responsive to articulate community needs through an innovative community partnership process.

Projects and Responsibilities:

• Conducted community outreach with potential vendors for the Great Wall Restoration and RFK mural projects.

•Compiling images of the Great Wall for image references for artists.

•Painting a palette of new Golden brand paint colors for Judy to use as a guide in assessing the wall and plans for restoration.

• Planned logistics for the projects (ordering paints and supplies, researched best papers to print on, quotes for stones, portable offices, moving fees, etc.)

Projects and Responsibilities:

• Created the timeline for hiring artists, scaffolding trainings, moving of materials, installation, wall cleaning, and painting of the mural.

• Developed a mural maintenance contract to ensure care for and longevity of murals. • Set up sound and hung art for Peña Event.

• Selected images from the archive, wrote narratives, and designed the new Great Wall Walking Tour Guide Book and Brochure.

• Soluvared and gold leafed several print samples for the RFK project.

Root Division’s mission is to improve appreciation and access to the visual arts by connecting personal inspiration & community participation.

By combining multiple opportunities for creative exchange, Root Division cultivates an artistic ecosystem that enriches life throughout the Bay Area.

Projects and Responsibilities:

• Developed curriculum and led an intensive professional development adult education workshop on how to teach youth art education.

• Completed two grant applications: Warhol Foundation and PBS&J Community Foundation.

• Assisted in curation and installation for two Second Saturday exhibitions.

Projects and Responsibilities:

• Administration for two monthly Second Saturday Exhibits, including the press release, compiling CVs and artist statements, and making pricelists, and labels. • Participation in all Root Division meetings, including Board meetings, Curatorial committee, fundraising, all-artist, and group interviews for new resident artists and Latino Teaching Artist Fellow.

• Maintained database for all art sales, adult education classes, and donations.

• Updated all organizational and program information with Guidestar. • Prepared a 10 minute powerpoint presentation for the Back to School Bash Fundraiser Event.
