A Model for Leadership Development & Social Impact In today’s globally integrated economy the most successful leaders are global citizens who understand and effectively collaborate with people from a wide range of backgrounds and perspectives. In 2012 PYXERA Global worked with SAP to design and implement the pilot SAP Social Sabbatical, a unique, short-term assignment for the company’s high potential employees. Social Sabbatical participants work in international, cross-functional teams to solve business challenges for entrepreneurs and small and medium enterprises in emerging markets. Participants get the unique opportunity to turn SAP’s vision of “helping the world run better and improving people’s lives” into their personal reality. Program Design By focusing SAP talent, technology, and capital on education and entrepreneurship, the program strives to enact social change through economic growth, job creation, innovation, and community development. Global Impact The Social Sabbatical began with 30 participants in three countries. The program was designed to rapidly scale and has since sent an additional 105 participants to six countries. Social Sabbatical participants represent 29 nationalities.

135 SAP leaders have contributed their time and unique expertise to the program.

Since 2012, teams provided pro bono consulting to 32 host organizations in Brazil, India, South Africa, China, Colombia, and Kenya.

How Host Organizations Support the Social Sabbatical

Social Sabbatical teams provides consulting services for free, but local clients are expected to provide four resources for the team:

• A desk and internet access• A dedicated project coordinator fluent in English• Daily transport to work• Access to decisionmakers
