SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud

What is HANA Enterprise Cloud? SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud (SAP HEC) is a new offering that brings the full power of SAP HANA in a

managed Cloud environment. It gives customers the option of running their applications on top of a

Cloud-based version of SAP’s HANA in-memory database technology.

SAP services would help in migration to the HANA Cloud, and the managed Cloud services would be

provided to the customers for a monthly subscription fee. The cost would be dependent on the size,

scale of data and applications. Customers will get dedicated storage, networking and compute power.

Eventually, it is expected that all of SAP's SaaS (software as a service) applications will run on the HANA

Enterprise Cloud.

Overview The SAP HEC is a flexible offering and resources can be added via change request process which will

be available in online tool. In order to use the service, customers would first need to obtain licenses

for HANA, as well as applications such as the Business Suite and Business Warehouse.

Each customer uses an isolated landscape in HEC that is a collection of VMs and physical systems (e.g.

HANA). These systems in the landscape are connected to a dedicated VLAN that separate customer

landscapes from each other. The HEC customer landscape is fully integrated into the customer

corporate network.

Existing HANA licenses can be used in HEC applications. This provides flexibility for customer to choose

when to upgrade applications and how they are configured or deployed.

The SAP HEC service is being offered by SAP through its own data centres. But certified hosting

partners will also be able to run the service in due course.

The SAP HEC offering comes with a recommended assessment to gauge readiness for Cloud

deployment, application management to alleviate the burden on IT, and custom services like

application development to help maximize the value of SAP HANA.

Deployment options include:

Full Cloud deployment

Use SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud for pilot purposes then move it on premise after the business

case is established.

Hybrid approach to move mission-critical productive systems on premise while keeping test

and development systems in the cloud.

Features Managed services One of the big Cloud goals is reducing lower level IT effort and instead focusing on business innovation.

This is where SAP HEC shines. For example, an existing SAP ERP system can be migrated to SAP HANA

within one to five business days saving customers a lot of valuable time. Also, highly customer specific

pre-configured systems can be built, including industry specific content, best practice content as well

as existing customer master data and process configurations.

The managed services include Applications, Data, Solution specific technical operations, Basis

Operations, Database, O/S, Virtualization, Servers, Storage and Networking.

HEC Services cover the end-to-end lifecycle for SAP HANA-based solutions in the SAP HANA Enterprise

Cloud. Services are consistent and seamless to avoid redundancy and ensure a smooth handover to

the run phase. HEC services complement Enterprise Support Services or Max Attention Services and

do not replace them.

Pooled elastic resources SAP HEC consists of possibly the largest single pool of in-memory compute capacity. This combined

with SAP’s Software Defined Network (SDN) provides the appropriate network bandwidth in an elastic

fashion.

This means that the customer can come up with their own demand plan according to their business

cycles that SAP will then provision or can choose defined system load thresholds to start automatic

provisioning of additional compute and storage capacity.

Support SAP will continuously monitor the health and performance including clearly defined SLAs, high

availability, disaster recovery and mission critical support. SAP’s management activities and also the

SLA based performance of the system are reported to the customer in the desired frequency.
