Executive Summary

Today’s world is talking about digital marketing like IoT, in-memory database, mobile and Cloud Computing etc. But digital marketing would not be possible without integration. There are typical challenges which need to address in Integration domain like which technologies to use, running and maintaining integration solution, which protocols to use, data security, total cost of ownership, time for integration, software upgrades, on-premise SAP system integration, etc.

SAP has provided two solutions SAP PO and SAP HCI for Integration. This document mainly gives you an overview and benefits of SAP HCI.

SAP HANA Cloud Integration Overview

SAP allows businesses to leverage existing investments integrating non-cloud and cloudenabled solutions onto one common platform by launching its HANA Cloud Platform. HANA Cloud is basically SAP’s in-memory cloud platform, enabling developers to build, extend, and run applications on cloud. This platform provides a set of application services (SAP HANA AppServices) namely integration, portal, mobile, analytics and collaboration giving developers the flexibility to build their applications. SAP HANA Cloud Integration is theintegration service on cloud platform provided by SAP.

SAP HCI is relatively a new SAP cloud product and it is a strategic integration platform for SAP’s cloud customers. It provides out-of-box connectivity across on cloud and on-premise solutions. Using the SAP HCI technology, we can build integration flows. It’s a feature that allows you to wrap together various system protocols, messaging transformations, and services into an easy visual entity. HCI is marketed as a Software-as-a-Service. Not only provides HCI standard content but also management and monitoring the integration content is offered by SAP.

Benefits of using HCI

• Integration flows allows to connect all types of applications that communicate using different protocols.

• Improved application integration helps better serve the business with enhanced productivity and quicker access to data.

• Pre-packaged integration content (templates with prebuilt process integration, data integration flows and other integration artefacts) can reduce the total cost of ownership for developing and maintaining custom integrations.

• Reduce the Integration efforts and risk of compliance.

• Ensures complex security requirements of electronic communication are met.

• There is no need to monitor, support, or upgrade SAP HCI because it operates on SAP NANA Cloud Platform. This feature helps to reduce the cost of infrastructure and application management and cloud-based technology lowers implementation risk and enables reliable upgrades.

• Existing SAP PO content is also supported and can be imported into HCI.

• Any integration solution security is an important area, particularly when on-premise systems and data are exposing to the Cloud and therefore wider Internet. HCI provides both Transport Level and Message Level security. Adapters and transport protocols determine the Transport level security.

Message Level security can be applied independently of and on top of the applied transport level security. It is used for signing and verifying a message, as well as encrypting and decrypting the content of a message.

• Another form of security that can be used with HCI is the Data Services Agent. DSA can be downloaded and installed locally with in the landscape. DSA enables the data flow between on-premise systems and the cloud without requiring to open firewall to inbound traffic or configure a VPN.

5SAP HANA Cloud Integration

Limitations Currently HCI only has the following set of adapters; SOAP, HTTP, IDoc, SFTP, OData, SuccessFactor, Mail, Ariba, Facebook, Twitter etc. If you want to connect to an on-premise solution using a different adapter which is not covered by SAP, then you need to use PI in between or you can develop custom adapter by following below stated simple steps and you can make it publicly available. However, it is expected that additional adapters will become available in future releases.

Below is one example of creating new CMIS adapter by utilizing CMIS services which are publicly available to connect to a Content Management System.

Below are very simple steps,

1. Install software SAP HCI Adapter Development Kit in Eclipse Web UI.2. Create a new Adapter project in Eclipse3. Import CMIS JAR file under component and dependent library file under LIBS4. Generate Component Metadata5. Build Adapter project6. Deploy Adapter project

After the above steps the new adapter will be available in HANA Cloud Integration development environment and it is ready to build an interface to pull and push data from and to CMIS document repository system.

6SAP HANA Cloud Integration

Product availability to Customers and Partners

SAP HANA Cloud Integration is available for customers and partners as an Application Edition, meaning it is part of SAP's Service Offering and needs to be purchased by the customer. The cloud infrastructure is managed by SAP with fixed pricing for services consumed by each customer. HCI software runs within SAP's data centres allowing customers to have access by connecting their on-premise or cloud systems to HCI. SAP handles all technical aspects, including upgrades. The packaged Integration Content, upon purchasing, will be available in a customer specific tenant. The benefit allows customers who have concerns on a multi-tenant architecture to operate with separated firewall rules, separated system configuration as well as individual security.
