1 SAP Extended Warehouse Management (SAP EWM) The focus of SAP Extended Warehouse Management is an integral part of the SCM solution addressing advanced warehouse management functions and processes. Features include:

• Higher process and stock visibility

• Better planning of warehouse operations

• Highly efficient operation of distribution and storage processes

These capabilities in turn, allow for flexible and adaptive planning and coordination, in addition to execution of inbound and outbound processing, thereby integrating the process flow across the entire supply network.

SAP Extended Warehouse Management capabilities address the unique requirements of fulfillment operations across all warehousing environments:

• Very fast and very slow moving items competing for the same warehouse space

• Customer demand for order accuracy and the perfect order timing

• Vast product differences - size, weight, model year, serial number, country of origin, batch and valuation

• Complex cross docking and order fulfillment processes

• Integration of third party logistics services for packaging (inbound) and packing (outbound) of products

• Detailed packaging and shipping logistics by supporting master bill of lading and variety of packing options

• Control of work processes inside and outside the warehouse such as bundling, waves, spreading, resource management, work order, kitting, labeling, outside dock and yard management

• Third party logistics and outsourcing support for consolidators and carriers using portal capabilities

The additional warehouse management capabilities contain work processes only before available in non-integrated, niche solutions; the distribution techniques are aimed at dramatically improving service levels, while reducing capital investments in inventories.

This Master Guide for SAP Extended Warehouse Management (SAP EWM) provides a central starting point for the technical implementation of the following generic business processes:

• Inbound Processing and Receipt Confirmation [page 17]

• Outbound Processing [page 18]

• Warehousing & Storage [page 19]

• Physical Inventory on Storage Bin Level [page 20]

The following SAP EWM scenario is part of another Master Guide:

• Service Parts Warehousing

For detailed information, see the Master Guide of SAP Service and Asset Management on the SAP Service Marketplace at service.sap.com/instguides → Industry Solutions → Industry Solution Guides → SAP Service & Asset Management.

You can find an overview about the whole functionality of SAP SCM in the solution map: service.sap.com/bmet → SAP Business Maps → Industry-Specific Maps → Supply Chain Management .

The business processes that are presented here serve as examples of how you can use SAP software in your company. The business processes are only intended as models and do not necessarily run the way they are described here in your customer-specific system landscape. Check your requirements and systems to determine whether these processes can be used productively at your site. Furthermore, we recommend that you test these processes thoroughly in your test systems to ensure they are complete and free of errors before going live.

This Master Guide provides just one way to implement each business process. This is the implementation valid for SAP EWM 5.1. For other ways to implement business processes, see the Scenario Component List Viewer in SAP Service Marketplace (service.sap.com/scl).

The central starting point for the technical upgrade of your SAP solution is the Upgrade Master Guide, which you can find on SAP Service Marketplace at service.sap.com/instguides.

Use the Master Guide to get an overview of SAP EWM, its software units, and its business processes from a technical perspective. The Master Guide is a planning tool that helps you to design your system landscape. It refers you to the required detailed documentation, mainly:

• Installation guides for single software units

• SAP Notes

• Configuration documentation

• SAP Library documentation

For a general overview of the available SAP documentation, see The Main SAP Documentation Types.

3 Technical System Landscapes for SAP EWM 3.1 Technical System Landscapes As SAP EWM can either be used as an add-on based on SAP ERP or as a part of SAP SCM, the following chapters provide an overview of a possible system landscape for both implementations of SAP EWM.

We do not recommend installing all components on one host. Instead you can distribute the components among several hosts, as shown in the diagram above. The diagram provides just one example; there are several ways to distribute the components. The distribution depends on many factors, such as sizing, security, available hardware, and so on. In practice, any distribution of components among hosts is possible.

16

4 Business Processes of SAP EWM This section contains short process descriptions and information about the technical landscape of the business processes.

A detailed process description and configuration documentation is part of SAP Solution Manager implementation content ST-ICO 150.

4.1 Inbound Processing and Receipt Confirmation Overview

You can use this business process for your inbound processing and receipt confirmation in conjunction with SAP Extended Warehouse Management (SAP EWM). For this process variant - the logistics process of receiving goods in the warehouse - a high degree of variability and flexibility has to be ensured. In the actual implementation, different optional steps can be installed in order to ensure an efficient and streamlined receiving process. Whenever a company requires a product to be procured from an external source of supply, the product will be delivered according to the official procurement document (a PO) agreed between two business partners. The arrival of the goods is announced by a message from the supplier (ASN). They will be delivered in a certain quantity at a defined date and time at a defined company location. For the delivered product, an inbound delivery is selected and processed for putaway. Once the goods are taken into stock, a goods receipt must be posted. Inbound processing and goods receipts are key steps in any procurement or replenishment process. Using inbound processing in SAP EWM supports specific requirements for receiving goods in WM managed warehouses for discrete industries, for example for Service Parts Management. The receiving process is divided into several process steps which ensure that the physical receiving process is reflected in system activities and documents. The basic concept is to differentiate between planned activities and notifications (for example ASN, inbound delivery notification) and finalized documents after processing (inbound delivery). If Handling Unit (HU) Management for packing is used, you must use in inbound delivery to pack against.

Technical System Landscape

The following software components are either mandatory or optional, as indicated below, for the technical implementation of this process.

4.2 Outbound Processing Overview

You can use this business process for your outbound processing with extended warehouse management (WM). Outbound processing comprises the preparation of goods to be delivered from a warehouse to a receiving location.

Outbound processing starts with the creation of an outbound delivery that typically has been created based on reference documents such as sales orders or stock transport orders. The outbound delivery serves as the basis for the subsequent process steps.

Outbound processing in warehouse management typically comprises the following activities:

• Notification of goods (to be supplied from a warehouse to a customer for which the outbound delivery serves as the reference document)

• Picking (with the WM warehouse task in this example)

• Packing

• Loading

• Goods issue and goods issue posting

• Finalizing the delivery process

4.3 Warehousing & Storage Overview

You can use this business process to efficiently manage materials and processes in a complex warehouse environment. Goods movements and all logistic processes within the warehouse are planned and executed efficiently. This scenario begins with the creation and confirmation of a warehouse order (WO), and includes the optional processes of confirming warehouse orders via the desktop (rather than using radio frequency) as well as the optional processes of slotting, warehouse rearrangement, resource management, labor management and monitoring.

SAP Supply Chain Management Server (SAP SCM Server) is part of the SAP Supply Chain Management solution suite. It is an advanced planning and scheduling tool that enables real-time decision support and collaborative network optimization across the extended supply chain. SAP SCM Server helps companies synchronize supply chain activities with their partners and excel at customer service and order fulfillment.

Embedded SAP BI

SAP SCM Server is shipped with an embedded SAP BI 7.0 that contributes to efficiently perform Forecasting & Replenishment tasks.

SAP SCM Server uses the embedded SAP BI architecture to plan for technical reasons (such as using info cubes), that is, the SAP BW embedded in SAP SCM Server is not meant to be used for the reporting purposes of your company.

5.1.2 SAP Enterprise Resource Planning (SAP ERP) – ECC Server

Product instance SAP ERP 6.0 - SAP ECC Server (SAP ERP Central Component) consists of product version SAP ECC 6.0. It is the central component of SAP ERP 6.0 and is the successor component of SAP ECC 5.0, and thus the successor of the former SAP R/3 releases. For more information, see the SAP ERP Master Guide on SAP Service Marketplace at service.sap.com/instguides → SAP Business Suite Applications → SAP ERP → SAP ERP 2005 → Planning.

5.2 Technology Components

5.2.1 SAP NetWeaver Usage Type PI (Process Integration)

Based on a native Web infrastructure that leverages open standards, SAP Exchange Infrastructure (SAP XI) makes it possible to manage the broad diversity of highly heterogeneous components from a multitude of vendors and to run in various technology environments. The integration capabilities capture shared business semantics and act as a mediator between the services and their technical implementations. It includes technical functions, such as Web service discovery, queuing, mapping, and routing. It also establishes

an infrastructure for business process management and high-performance execution within and across organizational boundaries.

Exchange-based process integration removes the problems of direct connections by extracting shared collaboration knowledge. These shared business semantics ease the integration of both external and internal components. Instead of directly coding point-to-point interfaces for each new component, the exchange infrastructure allows instant plug-in of new components once per component. This provides the flexibility needed in today’s fast-changing business world, and it reduces integration costs compared to the direct connection approach.
