SAP Academic Competence Center (ACC SAP) was created as a part of the SAP

academic initiative «SAP University Alliances» in 2008.

The main objective of the Center is to provide the students and faculties with the

possibility to be taught up-to-date business-related SAP solutions.

The Academic Center of Competence is a major methodological and resource

center for the Russian and CIS universities, which deploys SAP technologies into the

standard educational process.

Our main task is to ensure quick and easy start of the Program in academic

institutions.

During the two years of hard work we have gained vast experience in organizing

the work of the universities within the Alliance Program. Now more than 20 universities work with our center.

We will help you in choosing the optimal set of products, in contracting and conducting the purchasing procedures.

The ACC SAP holds introductory training and provides the basic teaching materials in order to ensure the quick

and easy start of the educational process in your university. These materials can be used in the learning process

immediately.

Additionally, the extension courses of different degrees of complexity can be organized for your lecturers.

The opening of the SAP Academic Compe-

tence Center as a united center of cooperation

with Russian Higher Education Institutions took

place on November 8, 2008.

SPbSPU's Rector, RAS Corresponding

Member M.P. Fedorov noted the significance of

the center's opening for the university and also

for the educational and business communities

of St. Petersburg and thanked SAP Company for

vesting the confidence.

Those present were also welcomed by the

Vice-Rector for Academic and International Relations, Prof. D.G. Arseniev. He stressed that the new status of

the Polytechnical University is a great responsibility to the SAP Company, University Alliance program, clients

and partners and that the University will do everything it possibly can in order to meet the requirements of

the status of the united center of cooperation with Russian Higher Education Institutions.

The head of the SAP ACC in EMEA region Stefan Weidner and the head of the higher education and

research organizations partnership programs in CIS, Scandinavia and Baltic States Victor Taratoukhine made

a statement from the SAP company. They congratulated the University with such an event and expressed

a hope that the center's operations will serve as an additional foundation for the collaboration between SAP

Company and the St. Petersburg State Polytechnical University.

The SAP Company, being the leading

worldwide supplier of software solutions

for business management is interested in

development of the educational system

producing highly qualified SAP specialists at the

university level. The company also wants the

students not only to obtain the knowledge of how

to implement and develop SAP-systems, but also

how to use them effectively. Thus, the creation of

a collaboration instrument with the universities is

a logical step of the general development strategy

of SAP. Such instrument allows the university

graduates to start learning SAP software since

their student days.

The cooperation project with high schools and universities «SAP University Alliances» has been

developing since 1988. More than 700 universities and high schools from 36 countries all over the world take

part in this program. Every year about 150 000 students take SAP courses. The program exists in Russia and

CIS countries since 2004. To date more than 40 universities of Russia and other CIS countries are logged in

the program.

As a part of the SAP University Alliances program, SAP provides access to the entire spectrum of its

software: from SAP ERP ECC to the full package SAP Business Suite and industrial SAP solutions. Both

sides — universities and the company — are interested in such collaboration, because they understand the

importance of investing into career-oriented personnel. The implementation of this program already enables

students to obtain a basic knowledge of SAP solutions, which is a serious increase of the conventional level

of personnel training. Such specialists are in a high demand nowadays not only in the CIS countries, but all

over the world as well.

To improve the efficiency of interaction with the universities, special Centers of Competence were

created for each region (EMEA, America, APJ). These centers are university structures, independent of the

SAP company and called «University Centers of Competence» (UCC). They solve coordination, technical and

educational tasks and provide access to the SAP software (hosting) within their region of responsibility.

Now there are two University Centers of

Competence in Germany (for EMEA region), two in

the USA (America) and one in Australia (APJ). Also

there are three Academic Centers of Competence

(ACC) in the EMEA region: in Austria, Switzerland

and Russia (for the whole CIS). The functions

of Russian ACC are carried out by ACC SAP in

Saint-Petersburg State Polytechnical University.

ACC SAP provides organizational, legal and

methodological support of SAP solutions, used by

local universities in their educational programs.

From the technical and economical points of

view, the most optimal way to provide universities

with the possibility to use SAP software in

educational process is to provide long-distance

access to the SAP software via Internet channels

(hosting). Thus, all the business applications

are located and maintained in one center and

end users get the possibility to use them in the

educational process, which is based on the

concept of stream splitting. This software is also

used as the exclusive systems with the potential

of development of own applications.

The number of work places for the students of a university is practically limitless.

As a result, the maintenance costs for the university are reduced to the costs of the maintenance of the

computer class, the cost of Web hosting and payment of services of the hosting center.

Under the agreement of providing access to SAP software, the SAP Academic Competence Center grants

the universities — members of the SAP University Alliances — the following services:

• around the clock access to the SAP software;

• provision and support of IDES-clients, IDES-systems and/or SAP-systems according to the selected access

options;

• updating of software;

• provision of the guidance and initial trainings of Client’s employees.

Due to the flexible pricing approach and a wide range of solutions provided by the hosting center, the

universities have the possibility to select the necessary systems — from budget versions of systems with

ready master data to the special systems with the development rights or established industry solution.

Hosting of SAP Solutions

For the lecturers of universities which are

logged into the SAP software hosting, free

introductory courses are held.

The program of the courses includes:

• Introduction to SAP. System overview, base

functional modules, system navigation

• Practical SAP skills

• Case study «Production Planning (PP)»

• Case study «Controlling (CO)»

• Case study «Logistics (LO)»

As a result, the lecturers obtain the necessary

knowledge and training materials and they are ready for a successful start of teaching the SAP solutions.

7Training courses and materials

The Center pays a lot of attention to creation of modular training courses and practical tools for teaching

the students.

The courses developed by ACC are always linked with the systems provided by the hosting center. Thus,

the lecturers do not have complexities while setting up the system and can concentrate directly on the

tasks.

In the year 2009 the center published 6 workbooks under the series «The practice of SAP usage».

They contain the overview of the main logistics processes, material maintenance, marketing, controlling,

production, project management and base functionality of the analytical solution «SAP Business Objects».

Among those universities there were:

• Moscow Power Engineering Institute;

• Donetsk State University of Management;

• St. Petersburg State Engineering and Economic

University;

• St. Petersburg State University of

Telecommunications;

• St. Petersburg State Transport University;

• Syktyvkar State University;

• Ufa State Aviation Technical University;

• Southern Federal University and others.

On the graduation the listeners obtain the state certificate of professional development (after 72 hours’

course) or ACC certificate (less hours).

The course is aimed at the professional development of the lecturers of the SAP University Alliance

members.

The program of the course is based on the modular system. The listeners are free to choose the modules

which will be included into their curriculum.

The course is conducted by the certified lecturers. During the years 2008-2009 the lecturers from the

leading universities of Russia attended the seminars and extension courses.

Continuing Education for SAP Lecturers

The SAP company regularly conducts educational seminars dedicated to the work with the SAP-systems

and to their usage in different business areas.

The Academic Center of Competence provides the representatives of the CIS universities — members of

SAP University Alliances — with the possibility to attend such events free of charge.

Also ACC SAP organizes the demonstrational seminars and trainings with the participation of the leading

specialists in the area of development and implementation of SAP-solutions.

ACC SAP is an inter-faculty center and has a lot of possibilities of coordination of the educational process

in Saint-Petersburg State Polytechnical University.

We provide to the Clients and Partners of SAP the possibility to train their staff to use SAP solutions while

they are still studying in the university, by offering individual programs.

These programs can include not only knowledge of SAP solutions, but also other disciplines (finances,

management, automation systems, etc) which are necessary to know.

Upon request, the center can prepare and conduct thematic workshops dedicated to the SAP solutions

with the involvement of lecturers of the leading universities of Saint-Petersburg and other regions of Russia,

as well as specialists of the SAP company.

The main cooperation lines with industrial enterprises:

• Preparation of students’ studying on the targeted programs;

• Organization of internships;

• Preparation of courses on the SAP thematic, with the usage of system emulators;

• Additional training programs for the staff of an enterprise;

• Organization and conducting of scientific research under the leadership of the staff of the center;

• Certification of the students.

Collaboration with Industrial Enterprises

ACC SAP actively cooperates with the similar

centers abroad. It conducts the joint projects

and develops educational programs with the

Technological University of Vienna, SAP University

Center of Competence in Magdeburg (Germany),

Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogota

(Colombia).

The center pays much attention to the creation

of students’ groups for doing scientific research in

cooperation with the research divisions of SAP

and its clients and partners.

At present the center is carrying out 2 scientific research projects with SAP Research divisions in Germany

and South Africa.

The members of the SAP University Alliances are involved in preparation and holding international

conferences. The participation of the Russian lecturers in the Conference of SAP University Alliances in the

EMEA region (Germany) and in the SAP Curriculum Congress has become a tradition.

In September 2009 ACC SAP took part in the organization of the first International Conference of SAP

University Alliances for the Russian and CIS universities.

The professional hosting system has proved its

effectiveness in Russia. Having logged into these

systems, the universities obtain the product, which

is ready for immediate usage, with the minimal

maintenance costs. The sets of typical instructions

for installing and configuring the client part, users

maintenance and support schedule were created

for the process of connection and work.

The confirmation of knowledge obtained by the students is made with the help of the system of

professional certification, where the students’ knowledge is tested independently. The best option is

a scheme in which the certification is conducted first-hand by the company — the producer of an IT-solution.

In such case the maximal interest in maintaining the highest level of knowledge is reached.

The SAP Company has provided the students of the universities the possibility to obtain the education

and the certificate on the SAP course TERP10 «Integration of Business Processes». The course highlights

almost all the basic functionalities of the SAP ERP-system. It is a basic course which can be the first stage

of the further advanced studying of SAP modules and solutions of SAP. On completing the course the

students that have successfully passed the exams obtain the certificate of the SAP Company with the

qualification of SAP Solution Architect which allows them to take part in consulting projects connected to

implementation of SAP ERP solutions. Unlike the specialized courses aimed at the work with a particular SAP

solution or module, the TERP10 course provides an understanding of the system functioning as a whole

and the interaction of its individual components. Having such a universal knowledge, one obtains better

understanding of such a complex tool as SAP and can use it more effectively.

ACC SAP was the first in Russia to hold the certified course TERP10 SAP ERP — Integration of Business

Processes for the group of students and lecturers. The group of 16 students included undergraduate students

and graduate students from 7 universities of Saint-Petersburg and Moscow. The first experience was rather

successful — after a 2-week course 9 listeners passed the exam and obtained the SAP certificate.

Now the courses are held regularly twice a year during the winter and summer holidays.

Certification of Students and Lecturers

SAP Training for Students

SPbSPU has been successfully cooperating

with the SAP company for a long time. The inter-

faculty scientific educational center «Polytechnic-

SAP» has been working since 2006. One of

the main tasks of the center is to attract the

departments of SPbSPU to use SAP solutions in

educational process and scientific activities of the

undergraduate students, graduate students and

lecturers.

The teaching of SAP solutions to the students

and lecturers of the university is being developed.

These trainings cover all areas of management on the modern enterprise from the strategic and financial

management to the production and technological maintenance. The training is provided not only for

students of economical departments, but also for the future engineers of different profiles — programmers,

industrial designers, etc.

At the current moment SAP courses are offered on 5 faculties: Physics and Mechanics Faculty, Faculty

of Mechanical Engineering, Economics and Management Faculty, Electromechanical Faculty, Institute of

International Educational Programs. Also the basics of SAP are taught for students at the «FMC-Polytechnic»

center, which provides additional specialized education.

First of all, the certificate confirms the

competence and ensures the level of knowledge

and practical skills. It is also an excellent starting

point for further studying of specialized solutions

and SAP components. The certified knowledge of

SAP software and practical skills are a significant

advantage in applying for a job. Considering the

fact that the companies spend annually huge sums

of money on the staff training and certification,

the recruitment of the previously trained staff is

an obvious way to reduce these costs.

Having obtained the base knowledge, the

graduates are incorporated into the work at the

new place faster and they do not have to spend

a lot of time on studying rather complicated

SAP solutions. That is why they can pay more

attention to their professional duties and their

achievements will be much higher than those of

their colleagues who have yet to learn working

with SAP solutions.

The choice of this course wasn’t random, it is

an integration course which covers almost all of

the functionalities of SAP ERP-system. The course

is a good starting point for the extensive learning

of the SAP solutions.

The TERP10 course is aimed at the overview

and understanding of the SAP system functionality

as a whole and of the integration of its individual

components.

Having such a universal knowledge, one

obtains better understanding of such a complex

tool as SAP and can use it more effectively.

ACC SAP forms and supports the system

of the professional certification of students.

The students pass the educational programs in

their universities under the guidance of certified

lecturers. For such purpose more than 20

lecturers were trained and certified.

The course is based strictly on the materials,

developed by the SAP company in accordance

with the methodological recommendations of

the company, on the specially prepared system.

To provide the students the possibility to

study in every CIS country a special system of Academic certification centers was created.

Almost all universities — members of SAP University Alliances — can create their own certification

The course duration is two weeks of classroom work with a lecturer, 6–7 hours a day. It is recommended

for students to study additionally for not less than 30 hours. The lessons include theoretical part and series of

practical exercises on the system after each part to reinforce the theory.
