Founded in January 25, 1554 by the jesuit priests coming from Portugal on a plateau 2,493 feet (760 meters) above sea level, but only 45 miles (72 km) from the coast
During 450 years the city is experiencing a huge urban growth and an intense economical and social development

Has a population of 10.5 Million inhabitants
the 4th most populated city in the world
And a street lighting system with 525,000 lighting points
being presently subjected to a huge modernization program
