OVERVIEWSãoFélixdoXinguisalargemunicipalityinthestateofPará,Brazil.Since2001,ithashadoneofthehighestdeforestationratesintheAmazon.Coveringanareaof8.4millionhectareswithmorethantwomillionheadofcattleandalittlemorethan106,000inhabitants,itiseasytoseewhatisthemaincauseofdeforestation. Inrelationtothat,TNC,MarfrigfoodcompanyandWalmartretailchainhaveinitiatedaprojecttoreinforcesustainable livestock practices, involving local government and farmers, developed as a beef traceabilityplatformcalled“fromfieldtotable”

TheactivitiespromotedbyTNCandotherpartnersonthefieldinvolvealsoIndigenousengagement,womenempowerment,REDD+strategies,diversificationofsmall-holderagriculturethoughcocoabasedagroforestryondegradedpasture,andstrengtheningoflocalgovernance.Allofthisinacontextwherethedeforestation,illegal logging and land conflict is still a challenge. This reality will be explored and reflected by theparticipantson2daysofvisits,meetingsanddialoguewithlocalranchers,farmers,authoritiesandtechnicalteam.

Asmall-holderfarmerinanisolatedregioninSaoFelixdoXinguwhohasbeenactivelyimprovinghiscocoaproduction and generating income for his family, since he started reforesting his farm using cocoa as analternativetoranching.
