C. Thermostat Location
The thermostat’s locationwill have some effect on theappliance’soperation.Whenthethermostatislocatedclosetotheappliance,itmayrequireaslightlyhighertemperaturesetting to keep the rest of thehouse comfortable. If thethermostatlocationisinanadjacentroomoronadifferentfloor level, youwill notice higher temperatures near theappliance.

F. Avoiding Smoke and OdorsNegative Pressure, Shut-Down and Electrical Power Failure
Toreducetheprobabilityofback-draftingorburn-backinthepelletapplianceduringpowerfailureorshutdowncon-ditions, itmustbeable todraftnaturallywithoutexhaustbloweroperation.Negativepressureinthehousewillresistthisnaturaldraftifnotaccountedforinthepelletapplianceinstallation.
Heatrisesinthehouseandleaksoutatupperlevels.Thisair must be replaced with cold air from outdoors whichflowsintolowerlevelsofthehouse.Ventsandchimneysintobasementsandlowerlevelsofthehousecanbecometheconduitforairsupplyandreverseundertheseconditions.
Outside Air
Anoutsideairkitisrecommendedinallinstallations.TheOutsideAirKitmustbeorderedseperately.Pernationalbuildingcodes,considerationmustbegivento combustion air supply to all combustion appliances.Failuretosupplyadequatecombustionairforallappliancedemands may lead to backdrafting of those and otherappliances.
Whentheapplianceisroofvented(stronglyrecommended):Theair intake isbest locatedon theexteriorwallori-entedtowardstheprevailingwinddirectionduringtheheatingseason.
Whentheapplianceisside-wallvented:Theairintakeisbestlocatedonthesameexteriorwallastheexhaustventoutletandlocatedloweronthewallthantheexhaustventoutlet.
Theoutsideairsupplykitcansupplymostofthedemandsofthepelletappliance,butconsiderationmustbegiventothetotalhousedemand.Housedemandmayconsumetheairneededfortheappli-ance.Itmaybenecessarytoaddadditionalventilationtothespaceinwhichthepelletapplianceislocated.Consult with your local HVAC professional to determinetheventilationdemandsforyourhouse.
Vent ConfigurationsToreduceprobabilityofreversedraftingduringshut-downconditionsHearth&HomeTechnologies strongly recom-mends:
• Installingthepelletventwithaminimumverticalrunof5feet(1.52m).Preferablyterminatingabovetheroofline.
• Installing the outside air kit at least 4 feet (1.22m)belowtheventtermination.
Topreventsootdamagetoexteriorwallsofthehouseandtopreventre-entryofsootorashintothehouse:
• Maintainspecifiedclearancestowindows,doorsandairinlets,includingairconditioners.
• Vents shouldnot beplacedbelowventilated soffits.Runtheventabovetheroof.
• Avoidventingintoalcovelocations. • Ventsshouldnotterminateunderoverhangs,decksor
ontocoveredporches. • Maintain minimum clearance of 6 inches (152mm)
fromtheventterminationtotheexteriorwall. Ifyouseedepositsdevelopingonthewall,youmayneedtoextendthisdistancetoaccommodateyourinstallationconditions.

3. Attach the4grillebracketcovers to the lower4grillesand the top3grilles. Slip themetalstrips through thegrilleopeningsandsecuretogrillewithscrewsprovided.Donotfingerbendthecoverbracketsatthistime.

• High ash fuels, or lack of maintenance, can cause the firepot to overfill. Follow proper shutdown procedure if ash buildup exceeds half way point in firepot.
• Failure to do so could result in smoking, sooting and possible hopper fires.

Establisharoutineforthefuel,woodburnerandfiringtech-nique. Check daily for creosote build-up until experienceshowshowoftenyouneedtocleantobesafe.Beawarethatthehotterthefirethelesscreosoteisdeposited,andweeklycleaningmaybenecessaryinthemildweathereventhoughmonthly cleaning may be enough in the coldest months.Contactyour localmunicipalorprovincialfireauthority forinformationonhowtohandleachimneyfire.

G. Igniter Replacement
1. Shutdowntheappliancebyturningdownthethermostat andlettheappliancecompletelycooldown. Aftertheappliancehascooleddown,unplugitandremovetheashdrawer.
2. Thewireleadstotheigniterareconnectedtothewireharnesswith1/4inchmale/femalespadeconnectors.Disconnect the spade connections and remove theigniter from the chamber. Loosen thumbscrewandslideigniterout.
3. Installnewigniterintothechamberandtightenthumbscrew.Re-connectthewirestothe2leadswiththespadeconnectors.
4. Doublecheck that the igniterwiresareclearofanymovement, i.e. ash drawer, firepot cleaning rod,cleaningslideplates,etc.
5. Re-installtheashdrawerandsidepanelandre-connectthepower.

Reset ButtonTheresetbuttonislocatedonthebackoftheapplianceintheupperrightcornerbelowtheheatoutputcontrolswitch.Thefunctionofthebuttonistomomentarilyopenthethermostatcircuit,whichrestartsthesystem.15. ThermocoupleThe thermocouple is located on top of the firepot insidethe thermocouple cover (ceramic protection tube). Thethermocouple sends amillivolt signal to the control boxindicatingthepresettemperaturesofthegreenandredlightshavebeenobtained.
When describing the location of a component, it is always AS YOU FACE THE FRONT OF THE APPLIANCE.
2. Convection BlowerTheconvectionblowerismountedatthebottomrearoftheappliance.Thereare2impellers,oneoneachsideofthemotor.Theconvectionblowerpushesheatedairthroughtheheatexchangesystemintotheroom.3. Exhaust BlowerThe exhaust blower ismounted on the right side of theappliance. The exhaust blower is designed to pull theexhaust from the appliance and push it out through theventingsystem.4. Feed SystemThefeedsystemislocatedontherightsideoftheapplianceandcanberemovedasanentireassembly.Theassemblyincludesthefeedmotor,mountingbracket,bearingandfeedspring(auger).Thehollowfeedspring(auger)pullspelletsupthefeedtubefromthehopperareaanddropsthemdownthefeedchuteintothefirepot.5. FirepotThefirepot ismadeofhighqualityductile ironandhasacleaning pull-out rod. The floor of the firepot opens forcleaningwhenyoupullouttherod.Besurethatthefloorreturnstoacompletelyclosedpositionoryourappliancewillnotoperateproperly.6. FuseThefuseislocatedonthefrontofthejunctionboxnexttotheredcalllight.Thefusewillblowshouldashortoccurandshutoffpowertotheappliance.
NOTE:DoNOTopenthecontrolbox.Thiswillvoidthewarranty.Ifyouneedtopluginorremovethecontrolboxyoumustfirst unplug the appliance.
1. Control Box a.The control box is located on upper right side of
appliance,behindtherightsidepanelandabovethevacuumswitch.
b.Thereisalightlocatedinsideofthecontrolbox.Theinternal lightwill turngreenwhentheappliancehasreachedatemperatureof200oF(93°C)inthefirepot.andwillturnredwhenitreaches600oF(315°C).
c.Thereisalsoaninternalbluelightlocatedintheupperleftcornerofthecontrolbox.Whenyouplugintheappliancethebluelightwillautomaticallystartblinking6timesinarowfor60secondsandthenwillstop.

16. ThermostatTheapplianceisdesignedtorunona12voltACthermostat.The heat anticipator should be set on the lowest settingavailable.17. Snap Disc #1 (Convection Blower) 110°FSnapdisc#1islocatedontherightsideoftheapplianceonthebottomoftheheatexchangerbox.Thereare2purplewiresconnectedto it. Thissnapdiscturnstheconvectionbloweronandoffasneeded. Power isalwayspresentatsnapdisc#1.18. Snap Disc #2 (Fuel Delivery Interrupt) 250°FSnapdisc#2isalsolocatedonthebacksideofthefeeddroptube.Thereare2orangewiresconnectedtoit.Thissnapdiscwillturnoffthefeedsystemwhichwillturnofftheapplianceif an overfire condition should occur or if the convectionblowershouldfailtooperate.Ifthisoccursthesnapdiscwillautomaticallyresetitself.
19. Snap Disc #3 (Back Burn Protector) 250°FSnapdisc#3ismountedonthebackoftheaugertubeinthecenteroftheapplianceandhasaresetbutton.Toaccessitremovetherightsidepanel.Ifthefiretriestoburnbackintothefeedsystemorpushexhaustupthefeedtube,thissnapdiscwillshuttheentiresystemoff.Thisdiscmustbemanuallyreset.20. Vacuum SwitchThevacuumswitchislocatedonthelowerrightsideoftheappliancebehind right sidepanel. This switch turns thefeedsystemonwhenvacuumispresentinthefirebox.Thevacuumswitchisasafetydevicetoshutoffthefeedmotoriftheexhaustortheheatexchangersystemisdirtyorpluggedorifthefireboxdoorisopen.21.Wiring HarnessSee Figure 41.1 below.
