Did you know that approximately 4000 unborn babies are killed by abortion every day? This practice of deliberate and direct taking of innocent human life is always forbidden by our faith. From Advent to Easter, in our bulletin, you will find scripture passages addressing the abortion issue from the Pro-life perspective as opposed to Pro-choice propaganda in most media. That human beings possess dignity to be respected and protected is proven by reason alone. As students of medicine will tell you, “do good” and “do no harm” are the basic principles of medical ethics. Then to reinforce what reason dictates, Pro-life advocates appeal to faith. Passages of sacred scripture help us to see that each person created in God’s image possesses inviolable dignity from the moment of conception. The Pro-life movement warns that we abandon our vocation as Catholics, if we give up and succumb to the Pro-choice advocates’ growing callousness toward human dignity, starting with the unborn child. If so, then we become what the word of God has distaste for; salt that has lost its flavor. We need to be aware of what is happening all around us and speak out to defend the helpless still in the womb!!! We need to remember why we are here. Please look for and read the scripture passages to heighten your awareness of the atrocities being committed by Pro-choice advocates in the US alone.

2ND ANNUAL GOODIES, GADGETS, AND GIZMO SALE

FEBRUARY 25, 2012

Mark your calendars for our second annual Goodies, Gadget and Gizmo sale. We will be accepting donations for the sale at the parish offices from February

18, 2012 to February 22, 2012. Start looking through your closets, cabinets, chest of drawers, etc. If you are cleaning out for the holidays consider hold-

ing those items for the sale. This year, in addition to the wonderful deals we had last year, we are planning on having a Boutique rack of upscale clothing. How about donating that lovely Christmas outfit everyone has seen or that beautiful blouse or sweater you bought and you never wore. Funds raised this year will help offset the cost of additional landscaping that is needed at the church. Look for a bulletin insert that will be coming out in late January or early February with more specifics.

Martha’s Kitchen is a group of parishioners who are available as needed to provide hospital-ity and serve food at a reception in the parish hall after a funeral or memorial service. The family can provide the food via catering or the group can purchase and prepare food for the group after deciding on a menu. This service is available only when the parish is not using the hall and a hall fee is requested. For more information, please call Judy at 825-9611.

Dear Ogie, I get a lot of grief for how we view the saints. Do we pray to saints like we pray to GOD?

Prayerfully Puzzled First off, we only pray to GOD. We don’t pray to a saint like we do to Him. Only GOD answers prayers. So, why do we even bother praying with the saints? Well, “with” is the key word there. We ask the saints to pray for us the same way we ask our family, friends and the people we go to Mass with. Every mass, we ask the Church (everyone) to pray for our shortcomings and mistakes, as well as our intentions. When we get together for Life Teen, EDGE or Confirmation (as well as many other groups here at SCC), we ask each other to pray for the things in our hearts. We also have to remember that the saints, while they are no longer here on earth with us, are still alive in heaven. Heaven is eternal life with Jesus. A very famous scripture verse is John 3:16, which says that we are saved by Christ. If we believe, live good lives, go to the sacraments, love GOD first and everyone else before us, we will live with Him forever. So, essentially, we aren’t praying to the saints, but with them, as they are always praying for us, for everyone. We simply don’t have the means or will to pray 24/7, but they do. Don’t be afraid to ask them to pray for you.

Congratulations to the children who will receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time. These chil-dren have spent many weeks preparing for this special sacrament.

Their Reconciliation Service, to Celebrate God’s love and healing, will be held on November 27. A huge thanks to the parish community who are praying for these children.

FIRST RECONCILIATION CELEBRATION

The Jesse Tree is an evergreen sign of God’s ability to sprout a new divine dream after it has been cut back and apparently destroyed.

Old Jesse of Bethlehem was the father of David, who became King of Israel and whose dynasty rule was promised to last forever. Generations after David, Babylo-nians chopped down that royal family tree, destroyed Solomon’s temple and carried off the Jewish elite into exile in Babylon.

In their mournful exile, the prophet Isaiah sang a song of hope, pointing toward a promised prophecy: “A shoot shall sprout from the stump of Jesse, and from his roots a bud shall blos-som.” Isaiah proclaims the name of the promise to be Emmanuel, which means “God with us.” This Advent season, in the Nar-thex, we will have a “Jesse Tree.” Each week, the children in our Religious Education program will hang the ornaments on our “Jesse Tree,” one for each day of Advent. We hope you will enjoy this addition to our Advent season.
