OPPORTUNITY Use the existing Urine Diversion Desiccation (UDD) solution developed by Live & Learn Environmental Education Cambodia Engineers Without Borders Australia. Provide privacy and safety for users, allow for storage of faecal matter above the water line, support the pan and user safely, provide sufficient room for: pan, anal washing, wash water storage, ash storage, menstrual hygiene management. As part of the solution, provide : Hygiene education for men, women and children - when fishing, during menstruation, daily hygiene, safe water for bathing and cooking, etc. Sanitation & clean water education. Understanding of environmental issues and their consequences. SOLUTION Long term latrines for floating and stilt houses to avoid water and soil contamination from water and open air defecation Affordable, well designed, safe for children and easy to maintain latrines to ensure their long term use Do not require a public sewage system NEEDS ENTERPRISE PLAN Sustainable Value Proposition: Prices at US$30-40 and could go down to $25-30 which is higher than the acceptable price of $15. Develop small monthly payments option, revolving community loan fund. Money will be saved on health care. Communicating the Value Proposition: Public places: clinics, safe water supply store, schools, church and temples. Develop communication and educational pamphlets. Delivering the Value proposition: Community health workers and community entrepreneurs. Build relationship with local suppliers and entrepreneurs. Setup distributed by local production centers. Enterprise Plan: Establish contact with Live & learn Environmental Education and their base in Singapore. Transfer their lessons learned for implementation in Kompong Khleang. Identify and contact the relevant governmental and community authorities, governmental programs, community groups and active NGOs to get the project started Build partnership. Identify local entrepreneurs for production and use local material to empower the local community in the construction and design improvements Develop production center. Identify health workers for communication and education. Sustainable Outcomes: Social, Environmental & Economic Reduce illnesses and health issues from water contamination.
