    Community Awareness Dialogue On Safe Drinking Water and Sanitation With Villagers of Jan Muhammad Khan

    A community dialogue on safe drinking water and sanitation was held withvillagers of Jan Muhammad Khan in Union Council (UC) Jhoro Shar in order toaware the local community on the importance of safer drinking water andsanitation and its co-relationship with community health. Sangat team first

    invited thecommunity

    members to sharetheir water relatedfacilities andproblems in theirvillages andadjoining areas.

    The villagers saidthey are confrontingwith many socio-economic and otherdevelopment issuesbut safe drinkingwater and sanitation

    are the main issuesof the village. They further do also confess that they have never given soimportance to the issues of safe drinking water and sanitation in their villagesand were even not so aware that their health problems are directly linked withtheir proper and safe drinking water and sanitation in their villages.

    They complained that deadly diseases such as hepatitis, cholera, malaria anddiarrhea are being rapidly spreading not only in their village but also there are alot of complaints from other poor communities of the villages of surroundingareas and even over all union council Jhoro Shar of Taluka Daur DistrictNawabshah. The villagers have a more complain regarding diarrheal diseasesfrequently occurring in the village, which has badly affected especially thevulnerable groups i.e. children and women community of the village. Even livingin the 21st century, majority of people fetching water from the open ponds forusing in their food preparation and drinking purposes, which happened mostlypolluted and full of contamination. Using of unfiltered and contaminated waterhas developed serious health problems in the community of the area.

    While talking on the occasion, President of Sangat Development Foundation,Nisar A. Brohi said health is wealth for every one being an individual,

    community, or nation,therefore, developednations have given toppriority to the healthof their communitiesor nation. If acommunity or nationwould not be healthy,cannot have aprogress anddevelopment in anyfield of life. Health isthe first and foremost

    priority to have asustainable socio-economic development of any society.

    However, it is great dilemma of our nation that even entered in the 21 st century,majority of our population drinking unsafe and contaminated water and alsoliving in unhygienic conditions, which has direly affected on their working skillsand capacities.

    He further appealed to the community they should come forward for thesolution of their problems facing since many decades. Until and unlesscommunity it self would not get involved themselves in the decision-making andimplementation process, the problems remain unsolved. So, communityinvolvement in any development process would not only pave the way for thesolution of the problems at grass rot level but also ensure their sustainability.

    In the meeting the community was fully sensitized regarding their village levelproblems and their possible solutions, especially formation of Village BasedHealth Committee which would chalk out strategy to collectively make allpossible efforts in addressing the health related issues confronting by thevillagers and would also coordinate with local UC Nazim and EDO Health

    District Nawabshah for early possible solution especially for the provision of safedrink water to the villagers.

    The sanitation and hygienic issues was also discussed with villagers and thecommunity was made aware to keep their houses and other residentialsurrounding areas clean which is the only possible way to keep safe themselvesespecially their children from deadly diseases and keeping death at bay. Becauseunhygienic conditions are best sanctuaries for various germs and bacterias, if

    transmitted in the human body, would a fatal attack on human being. So, it isnecessary to keep their environment and especially of house safe from allunhygienic conditions

    Fish swim, birds fly, and people feel.
