REGISTRATION INFORMATION

Hello Friends,

What a year this has been so far, none of us could have predicted the impact this virus would have on us at the start of this situation. Summer is supposed to be the time of year where we all get to go

outdoors, relax, and enjoy the summer festivities. It made me sad to see all of our playgrounds, ballfields, basketball courts, and facilities empty and closed. Even though this pandemic has created a lot of

problems, it has also made us become more creative. The Sandwich Park District is an organization that focuses on fun, education, fitness, and anything outdoors. The staff and I have been brainstorming

and planning throughout the start of this pandemic to find different ways to run programs while keeping everyone safe. We would like to thank the community for your patience during the pandemic. It

wasnÕt an easy decision to keep our playgrounds, basketball courts, and Splash Pad closed. We are very grateful of the progress the state of Illinois has come to which has allowed us to open our

playgrounds and Splash Pad.

If this pandemic has taught us anything, its that we are going to have to make 2021 even bigger to make up for 2020. We are going to start by holding our 2020 Freedom Days events this fall! We still want

to celebrate this great country with you and show our American pride. Although this event will look different we will still need the communities help to pull it off. With the Sandwich Fair Grounds shut down,

we are having to host our event else where in town. Typically, we count on the gate donations to help off set most of the cost from the event. This year we will really need the communities support in the

form of donations to bring you this great show. We know we will not be able to cover the entire cost of the show with donations but every little bit will help us continue to provide this fantastic display.

I would like to give a special thanks to the Sandwich Township for a grant they awarded the Sandwich Park District. This grant allowed us to purchase two new picnic tables for the Splash Pad. We know

with most things closed this summer, the Splash Pad will be a very popular place. We greatly appreciate the opportunity to provide some nice seating to our community with the help of the Sandwich

Township.

We hope you have at least been able to get out this summer and enjoy some fresh air. We have lots of fun things planned for this fall and hope to see you all in our parks and at our events!

Sincerely,

William Novicki, CPRP

Interim Executive Director

Sandwich Park District

WHICH FEE DO I PAY…in-district or out-of-district? A Sandwich postal address does not in itself determine your Park District residency. Park District residency is determined as living within the Sandwich Park District “taxing” boundaries.

Sandwich Park District residents support the district through their property taxes. The district was established in 1966 to include only the City limits of Sandwich.Anyone living out-of-district (Lake Holiday, Wildwood, rural areas, Hidden Oaks, etc.) is termed a Park District non-resident, or out-of-district.

Subsequently, non-residents do not pay taxes that contribute to supporting the district facilities and programs. Residency is based on the home or living address of the program participant, and not the participant’s business address or address of in-district family members.

If in doubt, if you pay property taxes to the Sandwich Park District on the dwelling in which you reside, you are a park district resident and entitled to the in-district fee.

LOST AND FOUNDItems found in our parks are brought to the David A Francis Center, 1001 N. Latham Street by our Parks staff. If you leave something in a park please stop by the Center to see if we have your item or call 815-786-8044.

LIGHTNING WARNING SYSTEMSandwich Park District has a lightning detection system at Knights Park, Memorial Park, Milestone Park. This system warns patrons, coaches and staff of actual lightning strikes within a 10-mile radius of the park. When lightning is detected, you will hear a 15-second blast and strobe lights will begin to flash. When this occurs ALL outdoor activities should cease and all persons should seek shelter in a permanent building or vehicle immediately. Activities may only be resumed once the system has indicated the “all clear” with three – 5 second horn blasts and the strobe lights will stop flashing.

We now have a Little Free Library at the shelter in Knights Park. Feel free to take a book, return the book, or donate a book. There are books for all ages, and all genres. Special thank you to Girl Scout Troop 607 for creating this awesome community function.

STRONG NATIONZumba dance fitness is fun. STRONG by Zumba is fierce. In STRONG by Zumba, you push yourself beyond your plateaus to achieve overall body transformation. The moves are like the ones you would find in a HIIT workout, using only body weight. The music was reverse-engineered to match every move. It includes fast-paced rhythms like EDM and Hip-Hop. Instructors are required to use the STRONG by Zumba music and moves, which have been perfectly synced, to keep the class experience effective. Open to ages 14-adult. I would love to have you join me! STRONG is a hard workout with awesome music! I have 3 levels of fitness to show to accommodate any fitness level.

My name is Jessica (Jess) VanDevelde and I love dancing, singing, children, and making new friends. My family and I moved to Sandwich from Woodridge 2 years ago. We are enjoying the small town feel of Sandwich! I am a former daycare owner/nanny, cheerleader, and Youth minister. I love helping all ages get fit through dance fitness. I have been teaching Zumba for 3 years and recently started working at the YMCA. My Zumba style is a little Latin, combined with some cheerleading and karate mixed in. It feels so good to work out and enjoy doing it! I hope we can dance together soon.

SPECIAL INTEREST

BUNCO It’s time for an afternoon out! If you like to keep busy, this afternoon of dice is for you! Roll the dice and with some luck you may get all three the same: could be a “funco” or a “bunco”- it depends what number is being rolled. The object of the game is to roll as many points as possible before the head table reaches the goal and stops the play. Points are accumulated to determine wins and losses for each round. Prizes are awarded for the most bunco’s and the most wins after the final round of play. The traveling prize is awarded to the one with the most losses. It returns each month so the next “loser” can take it home. Snacks may be brought to share with the group, if desired.
