Luiz writes in e-raall:During the last20 years we havebeenmissionaries with BCM. Our work has been in theback^ound. Wehavedonea job which hasbeenimportant for all the institutions we worked with. Wehave worked full time often worked at home on it.

We have been member s of theseinstitutions, although beingtotaly respon-sible forthem and their administration. What we received wehave shared itall for thesurvival oftheprojects, allou r expenses and those also related to the work.Throu^ letters andbulletins weshowed theprojectsas a whole.

The Directory (ofKids Place hadpeople ofdifferent walks of life and different churches. Whenmysister, Abigail, died she trusted this workto Staria, asking her to not let the Association close. Stariadedicated full timeand alsohelped support it inhardtimes when there wereno funds available andhelpedwith ou r funds. The Association survived.

Today it has a piece of land, the constructionplanis ready andthe building is beginning slowly.During 12 years thepeople who were in the Directoryandother individuals didn t actuallybelieveit wouldsurvive, but Staria alwaysbelieved this, because shefelt sure this was the will ofGod. God honored herfaith.

Today the Directoryhas taken responsibliltyand iswilling to construct thebuilding andcontinuethe work. TTie Association is still surviving fromagreementswhich Staria beganwith public institutionsthat throughrenewal still helpwith funds. Asshesawthatnow the new boardis very enthused and taking upthe spaces of leadership with allthe projects andadministration goingwell altough there arestillupsanddowns). Weconcludethatthere are other placesthat are in very terrible situations of abandonment, notonly spiritual but also material.

We look fo r slums which ar e in l ess thanfevorabie situations anddecided to begina newmission where thepeople could receive spiritual andmaterial help. We are beginning from zero andpractically alone. Wehave to presentourselves to allthose whohavebeen faithful inour supportduringthese20 years. Thosewhomade it possible for ustorealize al l this work in Brazil.

Staria writes in e-mails:(Feb. 22) As debt reduction funds came inmonthly bills were also paid fromthose fundswhenthere wasn tenough coming in for service and livinglink. Thedebthasallgone down very much, but it isstill there. The dollar has gonedownsomuch, andtheysay itwillgodown stillmore, which isa big

A LETTERFROM YOUR EDITOR:I feel the need to say a few words onbehalf Brazil ChristianMission. Fornearly60 yearsLloydDavidand RuthSanders have devoted their total l ife t o d ieLord and the people ofBrazil. They haveretired, in that they take no living funds fix)mBCM. When they travel they takeonlywhatfunds are designated to their travel expense. For the last 20 years, their daughter,Starla ,Luiz Azevedo have worked alongwith the Sanders. Theyhelpedwithmuchofthe work at Brasilia, especially die IntegratedLifeProject to assist and house poorpeople, both elderly and youth.About 10years ago Luiz sisterAbigail asked for their assistancewithoperating Kids Place , also knownas theAssociation. When Abigail could no longermanageKids Place sheasked that Starlatakeover as director th e Association. Starlaand Luiz have done an admirable job ofmoving forwardwith Kids Place. Theyhavehad to sacrifice their own limited funds inorder to take care al l th e children at times. In an endeavor to provide for more and morechildren the Azevedo s have used their creditcard to purchasefood, pay the electricbill, or>^4iateverhas been needed a t the time. Theircredit card carries a very high interest rate.Weasked for your help earlier to pay off thisdebit Help came as you can see on thefinancial t^t is enclosed. But with the highinterest rate the funds received did not pay offall the debt.

The BCM board directorsmet lastmonth to hear about the plans the Azevedo shave for the future. Starla and Luiz will beleavingthe managementofKids Place to theboard of directors of the Association. Theyhave beendoing this for severalmonthsandseem to be managing very well.

The Azevedo s see a need in anotherslum area. They have a very dedicated man,Silvio, that desires to help diem with the

project. Theareais called Carolinas . Sothis projectwill be knowas theProjectCarolinas.

The BCM board decided that 10 ofall designated funds forStarla sprojects willbe set aside to helpwiththe service link .The Service Link ismoney for operating anoffice; supplies, electric, rent, assistant, phone, etc. Starlanever receives enoughfunds for th e service needs. The board feelsthat it is only fair that a portion of thedesignatedfundswouldgo to theadministration of the projects.

Starla and Luiz are starting the newCarolinasProjectwith no funds in reserve,so it will be a difficult time. The BCM board president, DarelBoston, (recently retired minister at JunctionCity) received theboard sblessing with hisdesire to visit churches, that invite him, totellabout themanychanges taking placeinBCM in the future. Ifyouwould like tohaveDarel come speakto your church,pleasecontacthimbye-mail at:[email protected] health the Sanders seem t o remainrather fiagile. Ruthhasnever recoveredfrom theirtripto theU.S. lastyear. Shehasdifficulty beingin gatherings of people.David is doingbetter. When hewasinthestates he had a bad sunburn on his head. After that healed he had a cyst removed andthat seems to be healingwell. Theyhad theusual problems getting theirhealthinsuranceto pay theirmedical bills while they were inthe U.S. That has been a chore to get all ofthat taken care of.Please continue to keepBCM and allpersonnel inyour prayers aswestruggle tomake the funds reach al l th e needs.
