Fourth Sunday of advent

Cuarto domingo de adviento

Fourth Sunday of Advent:

When he discovered that Mary was with child, Joseph resolved to end their engagement with as little disgrace as possible. But obedient to the voice of God, he changed those plans and became instead the protector of the child of Jesus and His mother, Mary. God grant that I may be as open to the leading of the Holy Spirit!

We extend our congratulations to the members of the House of Representatives who showed com-passion and courage passing the House version of the DREAM Act this past week. It brings this nation one step closer to making the promise of oppor-tunity for all in this land a reality to young people who, through no fault of their own, are in the Unit-ed States without legal documentation. We now ask the members of the United States Senate demonstrate that they share in this vision of the future of our youth and of this great nation. We ask all people of good will to ask their U.S. Sena-tors to support the passage of the DREAM Act in this legislative session. You can call the office of Sen. John Cornyn at (202) 224-2934 and Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison at (202) 224-5922. For more in-formation, go to the Justice for Immigrants Legis-l a t i v e C e n t e r w e b s i t e . In solidarity with the Catholic bishops of the Unit-ed States and in support of the youth of our coun-try, we strongly express our continued support of the DREAM Act. The DREAM Act will open the door to permanent residency through a college educa-tion or military service to young people whose par-ents brought them as children into the United States without documents. Support of the DREAM Act is both a compassionate and practical policy that would allow our nation to benefit from the gifts and values that these young people have al-ready demonstrated through their moral character and educational accomplishments. We concur with Archbishop Jose Gomez, Chairman of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops Committee on Migration, when he wrote to representatives in Congress that, "There are times when a proposal should be enacted because, simply put, it is the right thing to do." We applaud the young men and women who have sacrificed so much in raising the awareness of the DREAM Act with their peaceful demonstration and sacrifice. However, we encour-age them to be prudent about their long-term health and do nothing that would put them in dan-ger. Once again, we encourage those who join us in this great cause, to contact their U.S. Senators and respectfully ask them to pass the DREAM Act. Archdiocese of San Antonio Department of Communication

Habitat For Humanity

Thanks to the great generosity of all those who have contributed for our 2011 Habitat House. Also, thanks to a parishioner and her

employer who made a generous donation, enabling us to be a full sponsor. This will be the 10th Habitat House in which St. Luke is a sponsor. It will be our 4th full sponsorship. We were co-sponsor for each of the other six. We are already on track for half sponsorship for 20152. God has been good to us as individ-uals and as a parish and it is up to us to show His Goodness and Glory by sharing of our time, treasure and talents with others. In January, we will ask for volunteers to; pray, do con-struction, calling, contribute, prepare or deliver food for workers. As a full sponsor we are expected to pro-vide all the volunteers as well as meals. Building be-gins on Friday Feb. 25, 2011. Volunteering with our min-istry provides another opportunity to share your time, talent and treasure with others. In this season of giving, let us all rejoice that our parish is able to help a tenth Habitat family move from sub-standard living conditions to a decent, affordable new home. May God Bless our efforts and all the families we have

helped. Refer any questions to Homer or Sue Fetzer @ 434-5475

OMEGA RETREAT CENTER - DISCERNMENT OF THE SPIRIT :

A Weekend Retreat with Fr. Carl Arico - January 7-9, 2011

As we move along on our spiritual journey, there are decisions to be made. Why am I thinking and moving in this direction? What is the motivation that is drawing me? How do I know this is the Will of God? These and many other questions come to our awareness. Discernment of the Spirit, a teaching of St. Ignatius, has helped many on the spiritual journey. Come join us as Fr. Carl explores the process and helps us make practical applications of the wisdom of St. Ignatius.

For information call (830)-816-8470, between 9am - 4 pm, Monday - Friday.
