Morning rays of sunlight begin peeping across the dewy, fresh
lawn, as you hear mowers quietly finishing up their last track
before the day gets going. It’s that time of the year again,
Partnership. For four days San Angelo Country Club will use all
the manpower it has to host on one of the greatest tournaments
in the state of Texas. For 57 years, the Men’s Partnership has
brought golfers across the region together for a memorable
weekend of golf, great food, and unforgettable friends. With all
the recent rain, the golf course is primed and ready to challenge
all of this year’s contenders.

Employee Spotlight Robert Hillegas
In March of 1985, Robert Hillegas began working on the golf course
maintenance staff of San Angelo Country Club. His primary duty was as a mechanic, but he also mowed fairways, greens, and any other job that needed to be done on
the golf course. Over the years as our level of maintenance on the course has in-
creased, Rob’s time in the shop became full-time.
There’s nothing that Rob can’t fix, which has saved San Angelo Country Club tens of thousands of dollars in the 31 years that he has worked here. There is also
nothing that Rob won’t do, regardless of time or difficulty. If something breaks, the part needed to fix it is usually on the shelf. He takes great pride in what he does, even
riding around the course to make sure the equipment is operating as it should.
Rob also does all the preventative maintenance on over $500,000 worth of
equipment. There’s never been an engine failure under his watch; the oil is always
changed, the filters are always clean, the bearings are always greased. During the winter, every piece of equipment is completely inspected to ensure it’s ready for the
next season. There is no one in San Angelo that can perform at the same level as Rob.
Jim says that if Rob ever left, he would be right behind him.
Rob goes above and beyond with all of his duties here at the club, but he’s also
a family man. Rob is a single parent to his daughter, Reneta, who graduated from
Christoval High School this year. His hobbies include playing with his horses and
riding his Harley. If you see Rob around the Club, be sure to give him a hello and to
thank him for all of his hard work and dedication!
