Although it seems like yesterday that we ushered in 2014, the year is half gone. Fortunately, our partnerships have served us well, and from the economic indicators (see enclosed Barometer) to the Chamber programs and projects, the first six months have been great. The rains that God blessed us with Memorial Day weekend have been followed by additional showers, elevating not only Lake Nasworthy, but our spirits as well. That segues well into the new dates for the 8th annual Showdown in San Angelo Drag Boat Races September 12-14. The Race Committee and staff are hard at work, and yours is the opportunity to help sponsor the event, purchase a table for your clients and staff in the VIP tent, reserve an RV space, or sign up to volunteer for the event. The June 10 monthly luncheon delivered on its promise to be both informative and entertaining as TWC labor economist Rich Froeschle brought an outstanding program in the newly refurbished ballroom at the Clarion Inn. Many thanks to our sponsor, TimeClock Plus. You can still link to the excellent presentation on our website @ www.sanangelo.org/uptown/labor.php. “Take me out to the ball game” was the theme of our June 24 Business @ Happy Hour at Foster Field Stadium, and we appreciate San Angelo Colts hosting us for net-working and the game that followed. The June 17 Business Brown Bag luncheon spon-sored by the Business Factory, SBDC and Chamber featured Jody Gentry of Mediajaw helping members think about how to derive more value from their websites. We should also report that the Goodfellow Partnership meeting in June included the signing of three MOUs benefitting both the San Angelo community and the Base. Watch for a more complete update on this extremely important Chamber-sponsored initiative soon. Leadership San Angelo graduated its 31st class last month. During the event, former Mayor Alvin New was named the "Bob Diebitsch Outstanding Alumnus Civic Leader of the Year," Griff Griffin of West Central Wireless received the Association's Member of the Year Award, 1st Community Federal Credit Union was named the Association's Outstanding Business, and Greg Stephens was honored as outgoing President of the Association as Lindsey Elliott stepped in as its 2014-2015 President. Approximately 840 individuals have graduated from LSA over the past three decades, helping prepare San Angeloans for a variety of community service options. Applications for the next class will be available in early August, and you may contact Sandra Pomroy now to receive an application when available.
Please make note of these opportunities:
Register soon for the 11th annual West Texas Legislative Summit on August 5-7. By now you will have received your invitation in the mail featuring the itinerary and the variety of panels and speakers focused on energy. I hope you will take advantage of the meals and socials designed to put you face to face with decision-makers. The West Texas Energy Expo still has a few exhibit spaces available to showcase your products and services.
Join us for the next Business Brown Bag lunch July 15 on the HR topic “How Well-ness Drives Results,” led by Shannon Health & Wellness. Please call 655-4136 to reserve you free space in the Riverview Room, and let the staff know if you’d like to order a $7 box lunch with the session.
Join us for Business @ Happy Hour on Tuesday, July 22, at Ener-Tel Services, 4512 Adobe Drive.
Enjoy your Independence Day celebrations, and we’ll see you soon.

Leadership San Angelo Graduates 31st Class Twenty three individuals took their place among the over 800 graduates of the Leadership San Angelo program, having suc-cessfully completed the 9-month course. Among other accomplishments, this year’s class carried forward the Legacy pro-gram instituted by last year’s class wherein the class organizes and executes a community project. The Boys and Girls Club of San Angelo was the beneficiary of their project and received a new playground surface and new computers. During June’s event, former Mayor Alvin New was named the “Bob Diebitsch Outstanding Alumnus Civic Leader of the Year,” Griff Griffin (West Central Wireless) received the Association’s Member of the Year Award, 1st Community Federal Credit Union was named the Association’s Outstanding Business, and Greg Stephens was honored as outgoing President of the Alumni Asso-ciation. Lindsey Elliott stepped in as 2014-2015 President of the Association. Congratulations to the award recipients and Leadership’s newest graduates.
