What does rural India need?

Rural India needs a voice

and a platform to exchange ideas.

Agriculture as a sector is aected by numerous factors: weather, quality of soil, availability of

water, to name just a few. What is le at the end of each story is a community trying hard to

sustain itself by overcoming all these factors that are oen beyond ones control.

Rural populaon has to be supported with innovave communicaon technology. Design

soluon should be able to maximize the economic and social aspects of the community. Rural

businesses need to be created protably for individuals of the community.

Following are common problems that limit the eciency of rural businesses:

Dependency on the middle-men.

Lack of informaon on market demand and price.

Lack of access to government loans.

Lack of informaon about latest techniques.

The design soluon should allow people to share informaon and interact with a wider

audience. This in turn would ensure higher market adopon.

Samvaad, a dialogue in Hindi,

is a networked communicaon

space that allows farmers tocome together to share ideas and

informaon.

Using voice and data communicaon

of mobile technology, farmers at

dierent locaons can exchange ideasand experience, resulng in higher

producvity and prots.
