Samsung smartphone sales smashed Apple in Q2according to estimates
Samsung’s lead over Apple in the smartphone market continues to increase, as does its lead over Nokia in the
global cellphone market, according a Reuters poll. While the South Korean manufacturer has been neck-and-
neck with the iPhone-maker for several quarters, the launch of the Galaxy S III may have helped Samsung gain a
more commanding lead. The company is believed to have sold 50 million smartphones this past quarter,
compared to an estimated 30.5 million iPhones. “Samsung is expected to be the smartphone hero in the second
quarter,” said IDC analyst Francisco Jeronimo. “We are also expecting to see the biggest smartphone volumes
ever shipped from one single vendor in one quarter, driven by strong demand of the Galaxy portfolio, particularly
the Galaxy S II and S III.” Samsung is also estimated to have sold 15.7 million more mobile phones than Nokia in

Galaxy SIII is a fantastic device, battery life is great. If only Samsung would ditch S Voice and
go with Google's voice commands with Jelly Bean, it would be perfect.

I love my galaxy s3, by far the best smartphone of all time. I have mine on VZW i
had already ordered mine before the developer edition got announced and im
kinda pissed about it but whatever, i might sell it for 500-550 and cough up the
extra dough for the unlocked bootloader. Also i agree we need google now, s
voice is shit! But i do have mine rooted, i do have a custom kernel as well as
removed the wifi notification, so atm im happy.

I am surprised that G didn't cooperate with S on the development of S voice; with
all the effort put into them it's a shame that one will die off.

Samsung has done a wonderful job for android. The Galaxy S3 is the BEST SMARTPHONE ON
THE MARKET PERIOD. Regardless of what comes out from Apple whatever you want to call it
new iphone or iphone 5 it will never compare to the Galaxy S3. With the upcoming Galaxy
Note 2 coming soon and the new Nexus coming November apple needs to just step to the side
your products are boring and useless.

Spoken like a true Fandroid. Too bad nobody listens to Fandroids. The new
iPhone will take the top spot yet again... from the 4S that is.
I will say the S3 is a decent phone for an Android though. Cheap hardware but
probably the best among the rest.

can everyone please keep their opinions to themselves on this site omfg.... Apple makes a
great phone for many, samsung for many, and everyone else well unfortunately they got
swept out the door for the time being. I think isheep and fandroids need to collectively accept
that right now is the best time to buy any smartphone and the best time for smartphone
consumers, ever. Competition between these tech companies has spurned on a technological
renaissance and the amount of inovation and progress we have made in 5 years is
remarkeable. Leave your opinions and trolling to yourselves and clean up this crap website.
Thanks that is all....

I was disappointed to see the S3's overly colorized screen--otherwise I might have plunked
down $600 to buy it (so I can keep my unlimited data on Verizon). Having said, ANY story that
mentions any company putting it to Apple is a GOOD story!

This article is very misleading. The iphone is one single phone. They are putting 1 phone up
against multiple phones. Notice the writer said the galaxy "portfolio"... Enough said

Why would they do that? Are you fishing for statistics to help you justify your
purchase? It may take some courage but you don't have to have the most
popular or even the "best" phone. Gather some strength and say "I love my
iPhone, it may not be the best or most popular, but for what I want it is great"
There's no reason to break out the galaxy sales as there is no reason to break
out the iphone sales between apples 3 devices. Anyone can make any statistic
skewed to what they want. Confident consumers don't care about the statistics.

Of course it was. The sales mostly of a highly anticipated device released at the end of the
quarter while apple's flagship is almost a year old. Let's see how it does against 3rd quarter
when the next iphone is out. Then it'll be a little more fair. Just saying.

What does Samsung consider a smart phone? They don't break out their sales numbers by
model. Samsung could put a mobile chip in a refrigerator and call it a smart phone. If Samsung
is beating Apple why are they hiding behind the numbers?

So why doesn't cRapple publish their numbers according to what they "sold"
directly, and the amounts they 'shipped" to carriers. Oh wait, I almost forgot
cRapple can do anything they please and everyone else must do as they are
dictated to do by the iSheep. :-p

In the end, this is good news for Apple, if it wins its lawsuits against Samsung, it will collect a
few more millions. Damn, but if has to win its lawsuits against Samsung first.

...And then your alarm clock goes off. You're dreaming pal. Apple had until last
Thursday to submit to the court the reason for upholding the ban. Have you
heard anything..?? *crickets* *crickets* If you're wishing upon a star that Apple
wins their court battles, you need to get off this gravy train. This is the last
stop...

So 6.5 million GS3's in Q2. If they sold 50 million smartphones in Q 2, then I want to know
what the other 43.5 million are.

Is Apple's flagship phone not the 4s? Apple is too busy in courts with patent
disputes and not innovating as I believe they should... The New iPhone is

Did apple just launch the 4S? As an AT&T rep. We had 10 returns yesterday for
the GS3. The return code(reson) was "poor color/ size/ fit". Many thought it was
way to big and they will hold out for the iPhone 5.

Good, I'm all 'bout competition. Don't want Apple to get lazy. I'm a self admitted apple fan,
but they need the pressure from other good products.
Also note, even though Samsung is selling more phones (higher volumes over various
devices), it definitely doesn't mean they are making more profit.

Maybe Apple's complete and utter drubbing in 2012 will inspire and motivate them to create
"non-garbage" in 2013. This is a completely lost year for apple with zero innovation anywhere
to be found.
Apple used to "WOW" you with their new devices that pushed and created new markets. Now
they are more along the lines of "WOW, that's it?" as they simply try to keep pace with their
competitors.
