Samsung NX10 DSLR Review By Kyle Schurman

The Bottom Line

Guide Review - Samsung NX10 DSLR Review

Image Quality

For those used to shooting with a point and shoot camera, the image quality in

the NX10 DSLR model will be a very nice change of pace. Photos are very bright

and sharp, especially when shot outdoors. The NX10 works especially well with

action photos. With 14.6 megapixels of resolution, the NX10 can create great

photos for large prints.

With low light photos, the NX10 isn't quite as good, as you may end up with

Page 3: Samsung NX10 DSLR Review

noise problems in certain lighting situations.

It would've been really nice if Samsung had included a pop-up flash with the

NX10. You can purchase a compact external flash unit for the NX10, but a pop-up

flash would've worked better in taking advantage of the small size of this DSLR

camera.

Overall, though, the NX10's image quality is the camera's best feature.

Performance

I was especially impressed with the NX10's ability to auto focus precisely and

quickly, which makes the camera an outstanding candidate for action photos. The

NX10's overall response times are very good, too. Again, if you're used to point

and shoot cameras, the NX10 "prosumer" DSLR model's response times will leave

you pleasantly surprised. (A prosumer DSLR camera fits between point and shoot

models and high-end DSLRs in the camera market.)

You may find some noise in your low light photos, depending on the lens

configuration you're using with the NX10. The camera's image stabilization

sometimes doesn't work well with certain lenses, sometimes resulting in noisy

photos.

The NX10's collection of automatic features makes it very easy to use for

beginning photographers. The camera also has a nice collection of manual

control features, although experienced photographers probably will want more

control than the NX10 provides.

Design

The NX10 is a small camera, even when compared to other prosumer DSLR

models, which should appeal to photographers who are making the move

from point and shoot to DSLR. If you're used to using a larger DSLR camera,

you'll definitely want to try the NX10 before you buy it, just to make certain it's

comfortable for you to use.

The 3.0-inch AMOLED screen is very sharp and bright. It's one of the best screens

you'll see on a camera.

DIMA awarded the NX10 with its 2010 Innovative Digital Product Award, thanks

to its mirror-less shooting design.

Finally, Samsung has stepped beyond the typical black camera body you'll find

with most DSLR cameras, by offering a limited edition white NX10 model -- at

least in Korea -- along with a black model elsewhere.
